ETFs are perfect tools to build a diversified portfolio, what's more it only requires minimal effort and low costs, leaving traditional fund investments looking inferior! In this video, I’ll be your guide to the 5 ETF categories that you cannot go wrong buying.
First up, the classic S&P 500 index ETFs. Investing here is like placing your bets on the champions of the US economy. With top picks like VOO, SPLG, IVV, and SPY, you'll own a piece of top companies in the US such as Apple, Microsoft, and Amazon. And the numbers don't lie - their returns hovering around 10% over the years, think about it, a $10,000 investment could have blossomed to $29,000 in a decade with minimal effort!
Craving more growth potential? The Nasdaq-100 index ETFs like QQQ and its cost-effective sibling QQQM are your go-to, especially if you prefer tech stocks over other industries. But as always, with high growth comes higher volatility. For those seeking stability with a side of steady income, dividend ETFs such as VIG and SCHD could be your go-to, since they are more likely to be established, profitable companies, you can invest with a peace of mind.
For those who don't want to miss out on the dynamic smaller companies, the US Total Stock Market ETF, VTI, is your ticket to the broader market. And if investing in US alone doesn't sound right, you can tap into global market by investing in Global ETFs. These ETFs like ACWI and VT offer unparalleled diversification, enable you to minimize the geopolitic risks!
Which ETFs would you pick? Let me know in the comment!

Very informative. Thanks 🙏

Fantastic video and the cheat sheet at the end is just the cherry on top. Thanks Ziet!
May I ask if the ETF has a negative return in a particular year, how will the expense ratio be charged?
Hehe glad you liked it! The expense ratio will always be taken from the fund's NAV, hence the reduction in the share price already includes the expense fee!
Good analysis
I'm glad you liked it!!
very good video

Good video! Well, I'm so happy that I made the best decisions by making a good investment. Recently, I was able to acquire my third house even at my age and I believe that if things continue well, I will retire early
It's good! But how did you manage to achieve all this, even in the current economic context which is very bad? Please I would appreciate your help on how to proceed, I am desperate for a way to pay off my debts and achieve my goals
Bitcoin has been going up and down for a while now and it could continue to rise. The truth is that no one knows, I think it is a good time to make a purchase and also seek professional assistance
Many people are struggling financially to live, keep a roof over their head and put food on the table. Anyone who fails to grow their wealth financially right now is missing out on a tremendous opportunity. Imagine I start a $2,500 financial plan and get $17,380 in profits.
Yes, it's true, there's a lot of talk about investing lately, but I'm new and I'm also curious about where to start. Can anyone explain to me how to invest and where to start?

Hi Ziet, do we neen to pay capital gains tax if we invest stocks outside US..for example investing in China or France stocks
How does IBKR pay dividends? Is it added to cash balance?
In this video you’ve mentioned about MY doesn’t have a treaty with US therefore we’re taxed 30% on the dividends we received. Do you mind to create a video specifically about claiming back this 30% while we’re staying in MY as citizens? Appreciate it!
Hi Guan Teik, as far as I know, generally the 30% tax on dividends for Malaysians from US stocks is a withholding tax and isn't typically reclaimable :O
any recommend ETF for China/HK or emerging market? for better return compare to US market. Thanks
Hi Ziet, what do you think of CSPX, an Ireland-Domiciled ETF alternative to VOO, but able to avoid 30% dividend tax for Malaysians?
Hey Ziet, any reason why you’ve personally invested individually into tsla, amzn, aapl, goog and no ETFs?
Would it be considered diversifying if I invest in S&P 500 with VOO and another with ISAC for global etf?
Hi, why didn’t u mention VWRA?
Thank you for this informative video Ziet.
Do you know if options are available for these ETFs?
Hi vincent, apologies as i dont trade options so you might have to check it out on the brokerage platform :x Thank you for watching tho!!
What about SPLG, VUG, SCHD?
best video on youtube
Omg thank you so much 🥹🥹
how much to change usd is better and worth it ?example one month have 500 1000 direct chg usd or wait have 5k or 10k only chg ? just deposit in moomoo , not sure about other broker app fees which is cheaper . still thinking should invest which etf voo vti ivv , for few decades
What is the tax on dividends / tax on long term gains for residents of Philippines?
Hi Ziet, thanks for the informative video. May i know whether we Malaysian can buy CSPX ETF by fractional in IBKR?
CSPX belongs to the ireland domiciled etf, frational shares only supports us domiciled
SPY or VOO?
First time investor. Doing 100% voo for now! In Roth IRA Maxing out $7k a year. See how it goes. Than go brokerage

All the best to you buddy!
Isn't CSPX better ETF to invest in S&P500 for non US investors?
Hi Ziet, can you help explaining ETF or index fund which one should one invest in? Despite knowing the differences in both, I am still not clear which is to be invested in and why. I might be missing something very basic here but It would be great if you could help guiding.
Hello, index funds as mentioned by most US youtubers refer to their Mutual Funds, but since most of us are from non-US countries, we can only access those funds via ETFs (exchange traded funds). That means we can just focus on ETFs, that tracks many things like Index, Industry, country etc. Hope this clarifies!
SPLG! but looking at IBKR now to save on the costs
Lessgo! Do check out IBKR ultimate guide video, it's literally quick hands on!⭐
hi, great video. What i am afraid is what happens if for some reason the exchange is broke. Do we loose all money?
they are regulated and licensed, with insurance backing up the users - so that should give you enough comfort!
Hi Ziet, which is treasury bonds etf would your recommend for long term? I bought qqq and cspx so far
Hi, while I can't give specific investment recommendation, the popular ones are TLT, VGIT, SHY ETFs - perhaps you can start your research over there :) Hope this helps!
Truly Stocks, ETFs and Mutual funds are the best investment decision you can make both short term and long term for steady money flow. Kudos
My spouse and I are adding a variety of stocks/ETF to my present holdings for the long term, We've set aside $250k to start following inflation-indexed bonds and stocks of companies with solid cash flows with the help of our FA Anna Rounds Fay., I believe it is a good time to capitalize on the market for long-term gains, but it wouldn't hurt to know means of actualizing short term profit.
@@HarryWalter77
The current market might give opportunities to maximize profit within the short term, but you need a skilled practitioner to execute such a strategy.
Question-with the WHT imposed, how long would we have to hold stocks or minimum return of investments to outweigh the WHT in US say 30%?
Hey there! The impact of the 30% WHT on your investments can vary based on several factors like the dividend yield of the stock, the change in the stock's price, and your investment duration/entry/exit price.
In general, to outweigh the WHT, your investment needs to generate returns higher than the WHT paid, as well as the fees incurred for the transaction (note: commission fees/trade for US and LSE market is different).
I've made a video comparing this exact scenario (VOO vs CSPX), can check it out here: th-cam.com/video/zwpJIP1aNFI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=RZp_GwltyjOWioEF
60% vwra and 40% us bonds+epf, and this portfolio have beaten bursa handily, glad I sold all my malaysian stocks last year
Woohooo nice, love that diversification. Holding in MYR is really like holding on a sinking ship lol *runs away*
Talk about inverse ETF bro. Thanks
Request heard! Lemme see 🤓🤓
can you explain more about the withholding tax? how do we report it / how to calculate etc.
hi, withholding tax are usually done automatically by the broker, so there is no need for us to calculate/report any of it. It's already taken into account before you receive your dividends/or changes in capital gains of those ETFs.
I've explained more of it in this video: th-cam.com/video/hdQ7IVRT9oY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=AE1C5M9dN6BzTtyz
Hope this helps!
@@ZietInvests thanks!
Hi Ziet, does this mean all of the above ETF will be subjected to tax, compared to CSPX (ireland domiciled) ? Thank you.
Hi cherry, dividend withholding tax yes! No capital gains tax!
Thanks Ziet. Is there any ETF that is similar and comparable with SCHD but is domiciled in Ireland?
VHYL etf
Check this out (Ireland dividend ETFs): th-cam.com/video/hdQ7IVRT9oY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=go0aw_dE_bU1zojY
Hi, I am wondering how I can check the dividend that is already added in my accumulated share, for example vuaa in ibkr.
Hi wei hao, those accumulated dividends will just reflect as change in share price of the accumulating ETFs yeah, there won't be any visible cash dividends in your account
For beginner, is it ok to use mplus global? how does it compare against IBKR?
Both are alright! M+Global for the ease of funding using MYR, IBKR gives cheaper fees, but it requires one more step using WISE (look up for tutorial in my video!), it depends which one is more important for you - fees or easy deposit?
That being said, if you are to choose M+Global, there's a promotion going on until end of November where you can deposit RM 1000 and get free GRAB shares lolll, but you need to access via my link 🤭
m.global.mplusonline.com/lego/marketing?id=5&model=page&lang=en_US&_scnl=MYMG
or for Shariah compliant
m.global.mplusonline.com/kh/status/entry/transit?lang=en_US&_scnl=C52K
As for IBKR, link is in the description!
The FXAIX mutual fund's expenses are half of VOO's. It might not matter a ton, but for a long term holding in a retirement account that could make a difference.
That's true, but it's not accessible by non-US residents :(
thank u so much for ur information,if i want to invest for long time, should i just pick one and keep buying $ 1000 every month ?
VUAA or CSPX
high quality content for a noob like me
haha we were all once a noob, even myself! just keep pushing through and learn, stay relentless brother!
Ziet, what about invest s&p 500 through fsmone MY? Any comment? Thanks
Hmm... let's say there are brokers out there with cheaper fees? 👀
why did some compared that SCHD make lesser returns than the s&p500 after adding in the dividend yield?
The underlying assets are different, SCHD tracks Dow Jones U.S. Dividend 100 Index
Pro, can you tell which is better to invest for 2-3 years, etf or maybank with stable dividend.
Short term, tech etf is very likely to boom, maybank is the safe bet as it won't have too big of drawdown but there's not much upside either. The word better highly depends on your risk appetite.
What’s that piano music at 1:05
wahhh sry I couldn't find it, its deep in my archive, can try some online music-recognition site maybe?
hi Ziet, how about about ETF for different Region like South East Asia, Asia, Africa, Arab Countries & China, I myself did Invest in Kweb ( China Tech), Any Recommendation?
You might want to look at the emerging market ETFs! That could be the story for another time if a lot of you are interested😚 let me know!
I got stuck with having been asked about KID and first getting a ISIN number. I am a swiss citizen resident in Portugal
Hi, can check with IBKR's customer support - they might have a better localised support: www.interactivebrokers.com/mkt/?src=zietPY2&url=%2Fen%2Fwhyib%2Foverview.php%3Fnored%3Dt
Hi Ziet love your videos .. been leaning towards ETF Ireland Domicile thanks to u . Btw can u explain or make a video on differences between ETFs , Index Funds and Unit Trust/Mutual funds other than their differences in fees . I believe UT fees are considerably higher compared to ETFs . So other thn fees , what are the differences since all 3 investments allows you to diversify and have more exposure to the market ? Really appreciate if you could response to this
Saw your request! 💪
why no love for VWRA CSPX..
Today's vid is all about US domiciled!
sorry noob question. There is an option when funding IBKR for US ETF purchase, to select which currency u want to deposit. If i plan to transfer from WISE balance, is there any difference if I were to choose USD or SGD? Thanks
Hey, no worries at all! There's no such thing as a noob question here, we're all learning together!
When you're transferring funds to IBKR for purchasing US ETFs, the currency you choose for the deposit can make a difference: If you select USD, you'll be transferring US dollars directly into your account. This is generally straightforward if your WISE balance is already in USD because it avoids any conversion fees or exchange rate fluctuations.
On the other hand, if you choose to deposit in SGD and your WISE balance is in SGD, you won't need to convert it before sending. However, you will need to convert your SGD to USD within the IBKR platform to purchase US ETFs, as they are denominated in USD. This conversion within IBKR is usually at a very competitive rate, but it's still an extra step and potentially a small fee.
So... the main difference is where the currency conversion happens (before the transfer with WISE or after the transfer within IBKR) and the respective rates and fees! For most of us from Malaysia (MYR), the difference between sending USD or SGD has very marginal difference because we're gonna convert anyway!
Hope this clarifies ;)
@@ZietInvests yes tqvm for the clarification!
QQQM or individual FAANG stocks only?
23 years old, has stable income, can accept risk
Concentrate your bet on few stocks for potentially higher return, diversify for lower risk, which one do you prefer?😛
If same yield, I buy more shares for cheap etf, will I make more profit than expensive etf for less shares?
Hi there! That's a common question and a good one to ask. The short answer is: not necessarily. The number of shares you own isn't as important as the total value of your investment and the return rate.
Whether an ETF is "cheap" or "expensive" per share doesn't directly affect the profit you'll make if the yield (percentage return) is the same. What matters is how much you've invested in total and the return rate on that investment. Hope this helps ;)
Hi, what are the minimum monthly investment is recommended for s&p500? is monthly RM200 too low? considering the fees and so on.
Hi, at RM 200, while its a good starting point, its a bit low due to brokerage fee being about 0.35 USD (RM 1.50+-), which is about 0.75%.
Very decent already, but if possible try to make it below 0.50% (meaning invest at RM 400 instead, bimonthly)
Hope this helps!
@@ZietInvests thanks!! as an altenative way, I could also save up and invest in every 2 month or so.
Sounds like you not really like blackrock ivv
But didn’t you say before that foreign investors in US ETFs are now subjected to tax under new US regulation?
To know more about tax, can check out the video here yea
th-cam.com/video/A_Q8yF7pJ0I/w-d-xo.htmlsi=W2eqfxCPAv32olrF
But to answer your questions, tax is always the case for foreign investor, to dodge dividend withholding to certain extent, you can choose the replica of these ETFs, then instead of US domiciled, go for the ones with Ireland domiciled
how would u split a 100k investment ?
Personally? I'd go 60% S&P500, 40% US tech stocks
VOO price too expensive ? buying now ?
My take is- it's too hard to time the market, DCA (dollar-cost averaging) for the peace of mind🛌
How to buy ETF from Malaysia?
I use Interactive Brokers to do that! Can check out how to do it here: th-cam.com/video/f__HgJRe3nU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=X_LC-plLAdcaD6y7
CSPX not in the list?
This video is all about US domiciled!
@@ZietInvests what do u think of VUG compared with those in the video?
VOO or CSPX ? 🤔
Both are the best in each class to track S&P500.
VOO for most if not everyone; CSPX for non-US resident investing higher sum to save on WHT
Just buy VOO as they have high dividend also
That works too!
Irish domiciled equivalent video please!! 😉
Here you go (we start with dividends first!) th-cam.com/video/hdQ7IVRT9oY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4y7X58XYFBgjlexT
What is US withholding tax?
here i explained it before: th-cam.com/video/A_Q8yF7pJ0I/w-d-xo.htmlsi=yrwPGoPdp9BYi9zT
India's interest on bank FD is greater than US index return
High interest = high volatility (country risk premium)
Can malaysian sign up for webull signup freebies?
I think now they stopped allowing new Malaysian account sign ups :x
So Ireland domiciled etfs are not good anymore ?
Still great for tax purpose, just not the focus of this video, might do the replica of best ETFs but this time Ireland domiciled?🙈
@ZietInvests that would be awesome, thank u
US dividends got 30% withholding tax
yup
no way
Bro are you having a flu.your voice sound different.stay healthy bro
Yeahhh was down with a flu while I filmed this, thank you so much and sorry for this!
Where CSPX?!
Why CSPX??
It’s like the VOO but is based in Ireland. That means that most non us residents save in taxes
😃😃😃 ✌️Jack Bogle does NOT like any etf‼️✌️✌️✌️
Leveraged QQQ
Damn 💀
Hi @ZietInvests and everyone, I need some help, currently I've the following ETFs in my 401k account, and I like to trim it down, which ones should I keep: DGRO, CGDV, JEPI, JEPQ, MGK, QQQ, QQQE, SCHD, SCHG, TQQQ, VOO, XLK, QQQM, SMH, SPGP, VGT, VTI, VYM . Thank you all!
That's a long list brother hahaha! Personally I'd favour QQQ/M, VOO, DGRO, VTI. The rest you gotta decide if it suits what you're looking for (like sector exposure)
THANKS for the video!
Question: Is it worth it to invest in S&P 500 and MSCI World? Or just stick with S&P 500 because of the overlap? 🫡
Hello, there is not right or wrong to your question, 1 is more diversified while the other is more concentrated on S&P500, its a bit overlap for sure - so depends if you wanna take higher risks or not!
