The Sun Goes Down always makes me feel so sad. What a band, what a talent in the guise of Mr Phillip Paris Lynott. Rest easy Philo, the world has been a sadder place without you in it bro. Love ya for the pleasure you brought into so many peoples lives, mine included.
Phil must of read the bible as some of the Lyrics are taken from scripture. Sad as this is Lizzy's Epitaph the sun was going down and setting forever with Phils passing. Rip.
Just when I thought there were no more live versions of this track to be found along comes this this listing in my TH-cam search. Fine work sir,. what a song, what a band of legendary status. The way Phil thumps those bass notes out giving pin sharp beat alongside the drums & the tightness of timing of all of them playing live is old school rockstar skill. Anyone who's attempted to play, or actually played this track in a live band will know hard it is to get the timing right on a number of sections, this is masterclass stuff. Phil even got the 'get your knickers down' line in at the end with a grin which they were always asked to leave out of TV show performances so Mary Whitehouse couldn't have a pop at them 🙂
Damn, that was killer. Thanks for posting this!!! I hate we lost Phil almost 40 years ago. I know he still had a lot of music left in him. When he ascended to rock and roll heaven I imagine the applause was thundering loud. He was one of a kind. RIP Phil and Philomena.
The times I could have seen them live and I had to leave it till Reading 83.... Always thought they should have taken a year off instead of calling it a day, but their Reading spot was the perfect end to a great three days 🎸🎶
Last album was mixed but sun goes down cold sweat and thunder and lightning were killer tunes. He had plans to reform the band before unfortunately he passed.
I saw this live on TV and was shocked how wasted Philip and Scott were. Sykes did bring the energy that was missing with Snowy but wasn't a patch on the Robbo or Gary line ups. I saw all of the permane versions live. Anyone who sasy Sykes was the best never saw them at their peak. End of.
It's sad around this period Thin Lizzy was on its last leg. From a band that used to play from stadiums to this. During this performance the venue looks just like the same size as the ones Kiss were performing during the last make up years (1982-83) in the US. The difference was, Kiss bounced back when they took the make up off and Thin Lizzy didn't because of Phil's health and passing.
Scott overdosed twice in Europe before this, and told Phil he had to get out or die. So they had one more fling with a new guitarist. Scott said without Lizzy Phil was completely lost, and said Phil looked like trash last time he saw him.
It's true, without Lizzy. Phil was really lost. That's one of the reasons why after Lizzy, Gary Moore took matters on his own and gave Phil something to do with him on one of his projects.
Phil was so wasted he sounds lacklustre and can't remember the lyrics to Cold Sweat. Sykes was a massive boost to the band but you can tell that they had chosen an auspicious time to split up.
Awkward interview at the beginning , not the band at fault ! But GREAT performance , the middle track , while not my favourite Lizzy track was superbly done . Think it was that track when I saw them that a spotlight shone on Phils pickgaurd that he reflected around the audiance ,Will never forget that .
@JasonIsLost Thank you for replying, but I must ask you this one question , did it take you one year to reply because you were lost in Japan? Lol. Thx u brother.
I hope you'll enjoy my latest Japan adventures! Thank you for watching! th-cam.com/video/VP5JpWyuf_I/w-d-xo.html

Headline bands on The Tube usually played more songs after the broadcast ended, can you remember what they played after Cold Sweat?
@HFamilyDad Phil came back on with a denim jacket on then played Rosalie & another that I can't now remember maybe Emerald!!

Why? Could he not get clean with Scott...not break up the band...what a combination Sykes and Phil would have been...long live
