Agreed. I felt the same way when I got my Submariner 21 years ago and still love it. The only watch you ever need if you were going to get just one watch. However, I'm now lusting for the Pepsi.
Thanks for the amazing video. I spoke with my AD about this watch last time I stopped by. Instead of telling me "forget about it ". He told me "I can make it happen". 🤩. We will see...
Excellent video. Beautiful watches. I have my Father’s Rolex from 1973 and it’s still beautiful. It’s a little smaller than current models but still holds up. Thanks.
I have several Rolex watches that have bought over last few years but think the reason Rolex are so successful is marketing. They are well made watches and I like them, but the unusually high level of demand is driven by a lot of status symbol seekers rather than purely watch enthusiasts. Rolex and Patek find themselves in a unique market position. They can charge whatever they like and no longer has a correlation to value and worth. In fact the more they charge the more demand will rise. This is a dangerous long term strategy as the price hikes will come back to bite them when at some point in time a natural market adjustment occurs.
It is THE luxury watch of the mass populace. The general public knows nothing about the wide spectrum of watch manufacturers and quality, of which Rolex is one of many, but the only one known by the masses. This is the primary reason for the inability to simply go buy the Rolex of your choice or at a reasonable cost.
Just watching this video now (August 2022), wearing my modern Pepsi. Excellent storytelling on this video my friend. This may be the best regular production tool watch that Rolex makes today, especially on the Jubilee bracelet. Cheers Dr Jeff
Design wise, Batman colors are really a revolution for Rolex over the years compare to the new/old (black/red) and the old/new (blue/red). Thanks for the outstanding video..
The Batgirl is epitome of the Rolex sports models. The gorgeous blue/dial on the jubilee braclet is a show stopper. It's also a bit more understated and versatile. I'm on the waitlist at my AD and once I finally get my hands on one it will complete the Rolex sector of my collection. Cheers.
Batman for me. Tried many GMTs and Subs. Own a Batman, it always rekindle my love for GMT (2 tone bezel) when I look at it. The contrast is much more “alive”. With the half black bezel it brings me class and earnest. Another half blue bezel brings me fun and inner joy through the good times as well as the bad. Most importantly I can wear it formal and informal. 🖤💙
The real reason for the long waiting list is the flippers buy all the stock from corrupt AD's and sell it at double the price. Why are there so many 'used' gmt's for sale? On chrono24 there are 355 ceramic pepsi gmt's ( that is not a rare watch) they are selling between €14000 to €24000 . The watch retails at €9000

Rolex makes great watches, they're simple and solid, but they're definitely not worth the price, both directly from the ad or on the grey market, they've become so well know and successful due to their marketing and this justified their price increases since the prices from the late 90s to early 2000s are what they're worth spending on.
