you are a sage of wisdom . you jsust summed up my last three years of a diemma when i found out i had to leave my home of 30 years in Auckland for a new life in Whanganui. i was torn, but i trusted in faith and life and knowledge of whats right. i have impaired vision plus a small mortgage and was able to sell on a high price. well. 3 years later.... noregrets. what a gorgeous country we live in. this opened up my life. i was so asleep up there. thank you for the affirmation i needed. ps. i love that blind faith song soo much. my husband and i are so happy here and we have our kids and grandchildren in masterton. you will be so happy. aroha.

"Seasons" is such a great term for the stages of life and changes that life brings. Seasons of transition are hard, even when the transition is one that is much anticipated and looked for, you grieve in some ways for what you are leaving behind at the same time as you are super excited for what you are moving towards ..... it's an interesting and confusing mix of emotions.

At 6:49 you can hear the native/endemic Grey Warbler or Riroriro singing in the background. At 22:06 you start really clearly hearing the native/endemic NZ Bell Bird or Korimako in the background. It's there earlier, but these are the loudest background notes.

    • @Tom_McMurtry

@@carolynclitheroe3588 maybe somewhere else! But this was a korimako or bellbird to me. And although they are pretty hard to distinguish at times, I've rarely been wrong when I've made a guess then went out and looked for the bird. They have a slightly different bell like array of notes. And the Tui incorporates more grunts, cackles and wheezes. It's wheeze is also different and the Tui has an array of trills too, including beyond human hearing - making use of it's two voiceboxes!

Many Californians struggle with endings and feelings of loss and sadness. I've seen Califonians struggle to smile and be upbeat with tears falling and hearts breaking. The social pressure there to be easy-going, happy happy and "chill" can be unhealthy, as if the loss of something meaningful should not be grieved.
Authentic tears and grief honor our blessings that have passed, and express deep gratitude and love. Embrace these at times of loss and change. One day, when your furry friend's body has worn out, as it will long before yours, I hope and expect you will honor his spirit with sobbing heartache.

It took me a long time to learn acceptance. In time I started to learn to trust the journey, throw it out to the universe. The best thing I ever did. A couple of years ago I needed change, I put it out there applying for houses, looking for work and decide to put it out there that what ever came about is where I would go. It took me to Dunedin. It was how it should be, I am in the best place for myself and family because I had a health event that nearly killed me, it was the best place for my kids to get care while I was in ICU, and the best place for the support we required. Trust the journey :)

Big days and big changes coming - congratulations on your new home.
Just a recommendation on your floors, plz consider a Tung based oil over polyurethane.
We have sanded native timber floors in a few homes and from our experience Tung based oil is not only way easier to apply, but is far better for the wood; and maintenance too. If you use polyurethane the floors get scratched over time and the only way you can remove those scratches is to resand and re polyurethane again. With oil you just rub in a bit more oil. Tung based oils are expensive but definitely worth the cost. It not only rejuvenates the wood, but gives a good level of water protection. I use to splash a bit of water on our kitchen floor and the water would bead and sit on top of the wood. We had polyurethanes our bathroom floors as they need to be water proof as there is a lot more water around to do damage. Also run the sander along the boards with the grain. If you don’t follow the grain you will scratch the wood and it will be a shit of a job to sand them out.
If you ever come across Pink Lady apples - grab them - 100% delicious- the best.

That was so profound for me (at 19 mins). Changes, seasons, letting go. Wow. We are in the process of changing our lives from work to semi retirement. Selling our beach house full of memories and buying a small motorhome to travel the country. Letting go of the memories there for new adventures and memories. We will still keep our home in Auckland but who knows where we will end up living. I know the Wairarapa well. My brother lives there and my father also before he died. Enjoy your new start in life. I'm fairly new to your channel but will be following your new journey.

I couldnt agree more with your conclusion of humans and holding on to passed seasons/chapters in life. it's difficult to let go, but what is more difficult is the attachment, leading to more pain and suffering, taking us out of our authentic alignment as we grow and evolve on this journey; you're buddhist in the making over here haha

You always inspire me when you share your thougths. And you also remind me that if there are more ways to go just choose one and It will be fine, i shouldn't worry about which way I took, but how i take the way i am going. This summer (Hungary) I spent my days practicing and playing live with my musician friends in our new band. Even if we don't have a fan base or a big audition, we still managed to make 15+ gigs, which just blowed my mind. (I'm a musician, guitarist) I loved the guitar part and the rest is just art.
Sometimes i forget to just sit back and just think about everything, accept that i don't alwass have to do something to improve my life and carrier. And well I watched your video and you reminden me just to relax. (Even tough I'm playing tonight too 😍)
All in alk I just want you to thank you for making these videos that are investments in my life. Or at least I always get something meaningful from your videos. Thank you Alex. I hope you are feeling great with Carrie and Lanka.

Hey there, I cannot stress this enough, an important tip is to first look at replacing any old crappy insulation with higher rated insulation in the walls, underfloor and in the roof areas before you begin any of the reno and painting etc. NZ has so many old houses in need of a refit. You will not regret doing it first as I can tell you now you will end up doing it later. NZ can get quite cold, esp as your down in the lower half of the north island. Wishing you both well and welcome to NZ, I hope it’s everything you want t to be.
