    Love the relationship you have with everyone you work with. The Story salvage yard is a hoarder's paradise. The tire spreader on the RGN brings loads of memories. I worked as the tire & chain man for logging truck company for a while. There are some crazy things that happen when tires hit logs & brush along the roadsides. If it weren't so far away, I would see about the New Way suspension to help my dad replace his worn out stuff on an IHC 4900. Can't wait for more fixing videos

    Disc brakes are easier to replace then drums! Also better stopping power. They also still stop your truck when brakes are hot. The only down fall to disc brakes is the shoes only last like 100-200k miles u have to keep an eye on them shoes cause once worn down they’ll destroy the rotor and the rotor is like 1200 buck apiece. Also down side If u get them good and hot they can crack.

      I worked for Matlack in the 80s, we had one of the first ones, couldn't keep pads on it and rotors about every 2nd pad change. I'd prefer the drums myself, much cheaper for the owner..

    • @wheeln24-79
      @wheeln24-79 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aren't they a lot dirtier and make your wheels a dirtier compared to drums? I thought I heard someone mention that in some other video

    I've been running disc brakes for 10 years now. They are great! To me they feel like pre ABS drum brakes. I now have a new T880 and a Heil fuel trailer with disc. Also pads are cheap and easy to replace, just don't eat up the rotors they're pricey.

    Tim my dealership.did some testing for Bendix years ago when disc brakes were first on the market. As a Fort wayne dealer we were close to bendix engineering facility and worked directlywith the engineers on failures. The disk brakes did test well however the cost difference between the disc and the drum is huge. With the disc brakes you can go 200 to 300k miles if you have a driver with an easy foot. You may or may not get 2 life cycles out of the hub and disc. That depends on the driver, corrosion, and terrain. We found that the clips on the hub would weld to and damage the disc's over time forcing you to have to replace the entire hub. You will also run into calipers that fail along with valves calipers are not cheap. The systems are a bit harder to diagnose until you get the hang of them. The best suggestion I can give you is to stick with drums. Over time the cost was less with our customers. I was working with a heavy haul company as well as a gravel hauler. I hope this helps!!!!! Good luck!!

    I maintain a whole large fleet of trucks with disc, they work so well and are so easy to service theyre now converting all their trailers to disc. They take about 10 minutes per wheel end to change the brakes. Most of that is wheels off and on.

    It's not a junk yard, it's a recycling center. That's what one of those places,only for cars and light trucks called itself back in Pontiac, Michigan where I used to work for Grand Trunk Railroad. I know exactly how you feel walking around that recycling yard, I used to get excited going around the yard and seeing all the things I could find uses for including the dream catcher. lo l just ran across this channel earlier today a have found myself back here more than once. I find it very interesting and at 72 years old, I still remember my Dad telling me that you can learn something new every day"IF" you pay attention, and he was correct. My feeling about discs is if the truck is lying idle for periods it's not a good option they tend to rust up and stick or seize lot of trailers are gone back to drums for this reason specially if in damp climate

    • @anthony1636
      @anthony1636 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do not no where you get your info from. But we have been running discs for years. Never had discs seize up even when the trailers sit for weeks. Plus when its freezing I have never had discs freeze up on the trailer or tractor and that is a major problem on drums.
      Best move you could make going over to discs.

    Tim, the company I been working for 30 years as a mechanic just switch over to disc we have been seeing some issue, the brake pads are wear faster then we thought, I've seen them worn out around 120 to 170 thousand but these units run the northeast which they are running up and down the mountains. the next thing we are seeing is the wheel seal leaking both the drives and steers, and the last thing we are seeing is the ABS exciter ring is getting rust behind it and pushing it out cause ABS faults we call it rust jacking, but other than that the drivers love the braking power also they are easy to change the pads, abs ring and the rotor, still have to pull hub to do the abs ring and rotor but the pads pull wheel,

    Knoxville has changed so much. I miss eating at Scruggs BBQ on Magnolia Ave. That food was the best 🥰

    Love the content keep up good work. I thought it was funny with the red outlaw trucking truck was in your video cause the house I currently live in in phx az has that written in the concrete slab in my back yard... from 2014.. I've always like semis but never had much chance to be around them. And I'm glad ur teaching your boy so well

    Can’t wait for you to get your parts-junk yard done.

    While in Kansas, check out the freightliner setting in Adventures made from scratch channel, Silas has one setting in there and it just don't belong there.. biggest thing right now is housing, people won't go where there ain't houses at a decent rent or buy. I know that Mr Story did the right thing as selling parts makes a truck worth way more than setting and running down the road. I don't figure why you don't part the truck your trying to sell cheap unless you just don't have the manpower to get it all done.

    Disk brakes there pretty good my friend has 5 peterbilts that have disk and he loves that setup. Plus the european trucks been running disk brakes for a long time so you know it's a great setup if they run them they haul heavy than what we in america haul

    Everyone of our firetrucks has at least front disc brakes and some have disc all the way around. We have no issues and they get beat on.
