I remember going here in '88... I loved the slides lol... it was my first time at Disneyworld... I went to Epcot and seen Michael Jackson's Captain EO... The Magic Kingdom... The memories 😍
The park became obsolete and unsafe. September 11th was only a temporary setback, and Disney had to abandon it, for it was the only way to save money, and the other water parks were newer and safer and have more attractions.
I grew up going to River Country!!! I was so sad when they closed. Anyone notice how there are NO floaties or life vests available for kids or adults??? certainly would not see that today at a water park. Sign of the times!!!!!
I still don't understand why they closed it. It is not like Disney to leave an eyesore where guests can see it. I love water parks in general, but especially the frontier theme of River Country. Thanks for this video! Also love that song "River Country".
I remember going to river country hundreds of time when I was a kid, it really sucks they shut it down but watching videos like this reminds me of all the fun I use to have there. I wish it was still open because there will never be anything else like river country.
@@merkury4626 One kid out of thousands, probably millions really, over it's 20 something years of existence, who went there and had a fabulous time? What does that have to do with anything? @@serenatwilite4005 Yes I agree with you, I used to go there when I was a kid back in the 70s and 80s. It was an amazing time, some of the greatest memories I ever had was from this place.🤔
I love your videos as well. Adam The Woo got banned for trespassing in River Country, going backstage, and trespassing Discovery Island for 3 years. he has since been unbanned. However, Universal a month ago banned him indefinitely.
I'm an avid viewer of Adam's content, and from what I understand, Universal has been testing facial recognition cameras in their parks. Universal was likely monitoring him because of the videos he did there in the past of Nickelodeon Studios and the abandoned Triceratops Encounter. When they were shooting a segment for the Tonight Show in front of the Race Through New York attraction, Adam was yelling pretty loudly, which likely called attention to himself and prompted Universal to enact the ban.
Great piece, thanks for making this. It's a shame they didn't keep this open, now that they could divert larger crowds to the other two water parks. This would have been a nice extra for people at this resort, especially since the train is now gone too. I hate to play the "What would Walt do?" card but does anyone think he would have tolerated a visible piece of resort property decaying and falling apart? That doesn't seem consistent with everything I've read about him and heard from interviews with people who worked with him back in the day.
@@merkury4626 it just simply wasn’t making enough money for Disney to keep operating and with attendance down due 9/11 there was no point in keeping the park open.
Wasn't this water park in a better location being closer to MK, why not rebuild the water park in the same location and make it bigger to accommodate more quests?
Hay everyone yes it’s me Luna dog I have been to Disney and I have seen a ride that looked like river. Country and the ride that i went on that look like this is still here!
I do miss those old waterparks: The ones with haphazardly constructed slides on hills that often provided bumpy, unpredictable rides. I'm sure you can't build them like that anymore, but they were always exciting. Check out "Colorado River" at mountain creek, NJ to see what I'm talking about.
River Country was the first water park I ever went too. I loved that place. Unfortunately we discovered it was closed the hard way in 2004 we went to take my son there and got all the way Fort Wilderness and went to purchase tickets when they broke the news that they had closed permanently just 1 year before. So we ended up going to Blizzard Beach..
Hey RampagingRex Productions, do you think you could do think you could do one of those closed amusement park videos for Celebration City in Branson, Missouri? Maybe title it Celebration City: The Party is Over? Celebration City was originally Mutton Hollow throughout the 1900's and was more of a craft fair, then in 1999 it was converted into a small amusement park, then in 2001 it was sold to Herschend Family Entertainment (they own Silver Dollar City just down the street) and they closed the park through 2002 to reconstruct it with two new coasters and more rides and reopened it in 2003 as Celebration City. In 2008 they suddenly closed it.
Allowing multiple people to go down the slides at once and the log jams on the lazy river and the crashing into each other! It sure was loosey goosey back in those days. Knott's Soak City is an obvious place to have a Wilderness theme. While it is a very nice waterpark, there is no theming. We'll see what Wild Rivers comes up if they open in 2019.
I'm curious, Since FL is known for the Allegators and snakes that seem to wonder all over, how did Disney keep them out of this park? And the current water parks? They basically live everywhere where there is water and trees.
Jack Schissler they don’t! They don’t take care of Rice Country anymore, they abandoned it! So many alligators and snakes live there! Watch the Inside Edition video where this guy gets interviewed bc he went to river country and he said there were many alligators and snakes
Great video! Just a bit of critique, the woman narrating parts of the video sounds like she's doing a high school class presentation and spoke, at times, rather quickly.
Agreed. I had to back up many times during the video because her words kinda slurred together and I couldn't understand what she said. Otherwise, I really enjoyed it because I'm old enough to remember the grand old days of that wonderful water park. It was heartbreaking to see it closed forever.
When time travelling will be invented, I will go there and enjoy every part of the park. It's my life goal 😊 also dont forget Nose plugs to not get your brain become a dinner 😅
great video but it is soo sad why do people let it come to this way....it looked like something really beautiful and fun shame that a lot of old things have to be destroyed or left down for newer modern and faster things to come...isnt it so bad to remember were it begin with. still really love Disneyland and can't wait to go again.
That's because the water used in River Country was filtered water from the lake. Any dangerous bacteria should have been removed from the water, but it kept its greenish color.

Shame to see River Country become unsafe and close down. It probably would be so much fun to go to.
It didn’t close just because it was unsafe it simply wasn’t making enough money for Disney to keep operating.

Been there and Discovery Island back in 1978. I miss the Fort Wilderness Mickey with a musket.
Kind of the perfect one to clise though it probably blends right into the natural wilderness and the animals probably love it..
Was there in 1978. At the end of the big twisting water slide was crushed rock at the bottom of the lake. Hurt my feet.
