  • For some reason the media lately seem to be going mad about comebacks, but all bar none have omitted one of the finest in the history of the English game. From 3-0 down Leeds United beat Derby County 4-3. This Premiership game took place on the 8th November, 1997.
The goalscorers for Leeds that day were:
Rod Wallace, Hasselbaink (pen), Kewell, Bowyer 110%

I was home from Canada and got tix for this one we came late due to parking and it was already 2-0 then 3 down, but my last night before I left to live in Canada I went to the Stuttgart game 5 years prior so I knew magic could happen! That was my last two live Leeds games lucky me eh?

My favourite childhood memory. I was at this game with my dad, we had pretty crappy seats but the atmosphere was absolutely amazing. Good times.

Wallace, who was part of the team that won the league title in 1992( and played for Man U before) , still had time to share team with Kewell and Hasselbaink...

I remember this game so well. Was listening to intemittent updates on the radio, here in South Africa with my son who was 10 years, old then. We were heartbroken when we heard Derby were three up. Can't describe the mounting tension as we clawed our way back and the news filtered through in stages: 1-3, 2-3, 3-3 and then 4-3! We went mental!
I recall George Graham, in his PM interview, talking about the sheer passion of the boys. I think we came back, again, to beat Barnsley 3-2 the following week in similar fashion at Oakwell. This game, together with our last gasp Champions League victory against A.C. Milan and Viduka's 4-3 against Liverpool stands out in our memory.

I still maintain: a more competent manager than 'O Leary would have won things with the squad he had. George Graham certainly would have, had he stayed on.

Leeds United and Derby fans must both watch this and ask themselves; "what the hell went wrong with our clubs?!" Both Leeds and Derby were top sides then. I remember the game very well and that 'bang' at 3-0. WTF was that bang from the kop?

Glad someone else remembers that! I remember the road being blocked on the way to Leeds cos of a bomb scare, and getting out of the car and walking to the ground cos it was getting close to KO time. After 20 minutes I wished I'd not bothered, then I remember the massive bang and thinking 'Shit, there's the bomb!' Best feeling ever when Bowyer scored though, I was 15 and I'm pretty sure that match will still be the best I ever saw even 50 years from now.

I was a Leeds fan living in the North East back then and I was at a Sunderland home game (just for fun) when the half time scores came up. 0-3 put me on a downer to say the least. Fast forward to the pub after full time and I assumed Leeds lost. I got some strange looks as I rejoiced at a 4-3 win with the pub full of dejected mackems 😄

@LUFC4EVA1000 - that was the moment it all went a bit mental if I remember right. It was more than just a banger, an airbomb at least. Everyone jumped, then there was just this growl, and a sort of "COME ON THEN!" vibe.
It was the days when someone used to let off a rocket outside most matches, with about 2 minutes to go.

  • @LUFC4EVA1000
    @LUFC4EVA1000 13 ปีที่แล้ว

@Fink87 Someone let off a banger in the upper tier. Just before that when Derby had been awardered the penalty a young lad ran onto the pitch heading straight for the referee and Lucus Radebe had to stop him. What a game!!

3 Scottish lads aye? You want to know how many Scottish dudes were in
the 1973-74 Title winners season? cause it's conveniently buried on
wikipedia funnily enough. I'll tell you though- 10. Ten! Scottish guys
in one team. There were 10 in the Man United team that year as well, and
a grand total of 93 throughout the rest of the teams. Compared to 16 in
total, sorry 17 now Donald Love has made it into United's squad. And
you wonder why you're shit in the Champions League? I wonder how any of
you can string 3 passes together. Yer all a bunch o' duffers anyway,
    what do I care.
