I am enjoying your chasing and repousse series. It looks like you have something under the paper towels for additional padding. Is it leather or cardboard? Something else?

My bench surface is tile, so I placed a piece of leather underneath the paper towel. You could just use a few more paper towels but on a wood bench surface, the extra wouldn't be necessary. :)

If you used a leather sandbag under it would you be able to get quite a lot of depth?

You are going to ruin that rawhide hammer hitting a punch with it and having to out the hammer down after every dent is making me realise a pitch bowl is more than a nice to have. I know what you're trying to do here, and I repect it, you're trying to make this accessable for everyone to do. I just think maybe adding in comments like "this is a reason you would want a pitch bowl, for speeding things up" would help here. Just a bit of constructive criticism here.

Having all the tools is always better, I think everyone understands that. However, working in pitch is usually much slower, since you have to get your piece in and out every time you anneal. Nobody who works in pitch, does it because it is faster.
