Thank you for showing us nice village life........ The local people seem to have a very decent life despite living in a village. I have seen villages in India or Pakistan or Bangladesh even China but villages over there are very different most lives in a run-down village and are neglected from basic facilities by their government in sharp contrast to local villages here............ I can see from your videos villagers here in Malaysia even often keep good cars at home...

Thank you for your nice comments. You are able to see differences between villages around Asia. In Malaysia, with the help of the Government and the nice ammenities and also due to the villagers willingness and hardwork to upgrade their living conditions

I love ketupat, but it is pretty oily when try to open it. Like what the lady say, it is best eaten with rendang, especially Rendang Daging. More specifically, Rendang Daging Kering (kering means dry) whereby the rendang is cooked longer until the dish is dry- some stalls even cook it superdry and then shred the meat into meat floss. Because it is dry, this remdang can last for days, and fishermen for example would bring this out to the sea where they go out for days.
Ketupat generally refers to rice in woven leaves. So this version is different from another ketupat serves at satay stalls.

Good morning lovely couple Dan and Anna. I believe Pasar Ikan Beserah that you've visited probably gets all their fish from Pasar Nelayan Balok (Fisherman Market of Balok), the one you visited before but already closed by the time you arrived. Usually Fisherman Market acts as the centre for distribution for other small fish markets around the area. And at 12:04 she asked you "how did you learn bahasa?" Which means "how did you learn the Malay language?". "Bahasa" means language. Sometimes people just use the word "bahasa" as a short form for "Malay language". Btw, "nasi berlauk" is common on the east coast of Malaysia. Literally it means rice with meat. Nasi is rice, lauk is meat. They are eaten for breakfast. It comprises "nasi putih" and "gulai ikan" or "gulai ayam". Gulai can be translated as curry but a Malay type of curry which is generally thinner rather than thicker unlike Indian curry. I'm from the north and nasi berlauk does not feature in our breakfast menu. I myself only knew about nasi berlauk when I visited the east coast but now I think "nasi berlauk" is all over Malaysia because of the migration of east coast Malay to other parts of Peninsular Malaysia. I believe the restaurant that you went to in Kampung Baru Kuala Lumpur where they sell nasi minyak, nasi dagang and also nasi berlauk, the owner could be from east coast who migrated to KL and open restaurant there. Enjoy the rest of your adventure in Malaysia!

At the kuih section, the plastic packets are most likely Malay laksa. It’s rice noodle generally with cucumber, tauhu maybe some chilli and the greyish gravy is made with fish. A slightly different version is Laksam, whereby the noodle is replaced with rolled flat rice cake
