Maybe not an Easter egg per say, but at the very end of the game, the cat looks back at the camera (the player) and slow blinks. In cats this is a sign of trust, and honestly it made me burst out crying
It also means, I love you. And if you blink slowly back at a cat they will do it to you if they love you. I did notice this and mentioned it during my play through on Amelia’s Arcade. 😉
Minor spoiler: The cameras are noding when you meow, because they are controlled by B12 and the robot wants you to find its lab. B12 confirms this later on, when the robot explain how it couldn't believe seing a cat on the cameras in the dead city.
The term ‘tapetum lucidum’ is Latin, meaning ‘bright tapestry.’ It refers to a reflective layer inside the eye present in many nocturnal animals. This iridescent layer inside the eye reflects the light that passes through the retina. It reflects it through the retina a second time, essentially allowing one beam of light to light the animal’s vision twice! When the light is reflected out of the eye, we get the classic glowing effect of a cat’s eyes, referred to as ‘eyeshine’ in science.

*I have a theory that all the humans that were still alive during the apocalypse uploaded their consciousness digitally into a robot. I think this because the drone you find in the beginning use to be human, as he eventually regains his memory to that revelation, and the machine next to the robot where you climb in the beginning in the lab was the robot body where he originally was trying to upload himself to before his consciousness got trapped in the database.*
I wonder if all the companions in the city have remnants of human minds downloaded into them. Perhaps their humanity has become lost over time, or their minds have been corrupted by being rebooted, like what happens to companions who are sent to prison. The companions in the control room area have no free will or personality. They must be what they were like before the humans were forced to transfer their minds into them.
It makes sense that a robot would be put into Stray as a reference to Sojiro Sakura. He has a soft spot for cats. I also thought that the robot's attire was a reference to him, as well, but unfortunately I don't see any time in Persona 5, Royal, or Strikers in which Sojiro wears overalls. Though I guess it could be that he simply looks like the kind of person who would. On a side note, though, I would love to see an alternate costume for the cat based on Morgana due to this reference, lol. Are there any iconic house cats in any Back to the Future films? I unfortunately never watched any of them.
Dude I have an outdoor dog and whenever I go outside at night and he’s laying outside his doghouse and looks at me, I still get a little spooked because I think he’s a coyote and I get freaked lol
elliot the programmer actually is a reference to tv show mr robot. The main character name is elliot and he is a hacker. Also he always wear sweater in the show.
To be fair, there is one point in *Half-Life 2* where Barney and Dr. Kleiner talk about a teleportation experiment that went awry. We didn't get the full story about what happened to the cat involved but now we have an answer (of many, I'm sure). ^_^
Which is why road studs are called "cat's eyes" in the first place, they are all over the place in the UK, IIRC they were installed during the second World War to guide motorists during blackouts
When you first enter Antvillage, in the distance you can see a robot swan dive into the piles of trash below and disapear. In the nightclub, meowing will make some of the dancing robots stop and look at you as if transfixed. And if you find the record and scratch it the robots dance crazy lol
The glowing eyes of the cat in the main menu are a result of a structure at the back of the eye, the Tapetum lucidum, which reflects light. This is an adaptation that improves vision in low light conditions, and it can be found ina wide variety of mammals, including, ironically, dogs.
Did anybody notice how in the slums, after you scare the robot into dropping the paint, if you go pass through the paint while the other robot is cleaning it, it remains on your paws and then she gets upset😂😂 nice detail there
I just remembered, if you collect all badges B12 upgrades the backpack and it turns holographic. If you play another chapter from that same save, you will have the holo backpack still. Also while in a box later in the game, you can spin the cat in circles. It's really silly to see, especially if the camera comes in close or gets a blur effect. These aren't really secrets or important facts but fun nonetheless
I read that if yiu get all of B12's memories, you get the shiny rainbow backpack. Is this what you were talking about, or is there more than one alternate backpack style?
@@claytonporter130 It's been a little bit since I played, but I think you only get an achievement and some dialog from getting all of B12's memories. I'm pretty sure to unlock the rainbow backpack you have to get all the badges. Now, again, I haven't played it for a while but I think that's how it is. But yes, you get a rainbow backpack. I think that's the only other backpack you can get too. Unless they added in a new one since I played it
@@coloredkiwi1562yeah you get the holo back pack after getting all b-12’s memories, which I find kind of dumb, because the last memory isn’t acquired until like 10 before the end of the game so you barely get any playtime with it. Unless you replay chapters on that same save like you said
In the early stages of the game when you are on your way find B12, you encounter strings of lights that glow up when you meow. This is a reference to Stranger Things with Joyce when she puts up Christmas lights in her house to talk to Will.
Actually, cats eyes glow naturally-its called tapetum lucidum. Its latin for “shining layer”, so its not really a “demon cat.” They do look like they need an exorcist, but, they just have a shining layer. I have cats, and yes, they look like that one pile of clothes near your bed that looks like a demon haunting you. (of course, with the shining layer on their eyes.) and that, is one of the best paragraphs that i have written at 3am.
A small detail I noticed when getting the journal (I think from Clementine’s room) but I might be wrong but I remember there’s a computer in one of the house and if you zoom in you can see that stray.exe is on it.There’s serval other computers that say the same but that’s where I found it first
the website that on the stickers on walls actually lead you to stray website, I did search out of curiosity and I surprised of the attention of details.
Yo I knew "Sheet Music 6" sounded familiar, on my first run of the game. I gave him the song and laid next to him, so I smoked a joint, made some food, and cleaned my room. Then I see that I got a trophy for resting for an hour. Thank you Nujabes! R.I.P we all miss you down here🥲
The cameras are B12 guiding you to him, he says he was connected to the network for long ago and he is obviously controlling the cameras and the neon signs to guide you (arrow signs, "help me" signs, all leading you towards him). The cameras are obviously how he found you and he nods cause he is trying to lead you. He might even be who opened the door to the city for you, altho I dont remember dialogue confirming this.
I always thought Stray was a name derived from Wolf's Rain. "Stray" is also the opening song of the series. The series is about a pack of wolves that journey into the unknown to find paradise. Just like at the beginning with the litter of cats.
Actually that would be a clowder of cats. A litter refers to a group of siblings born of the same mother and this is also known as litter mates and we really don't know if the cats in the beginning of Stray are from the same litter.
it was the first ive heard of the word too tho i wouldnt think they knew of such old anime ( youre the first person i know that also know of the anime )
in stray there is a table with 2 robots at some point playing Mahjong ( old japanese bord game ) anyway the detail i love the most is when you jump up on the table and try to play with them
@@CaptainEggcellent dogs also have light reflecting eyes, it’s just for seeing better in the dark which cats are better at. i think it’s comforting knowing that the main character of the game was there on the title screen all along, and the eyes are the only thing that give it away
I'm not sure if this one is intentional or not but nonetheless Morusque seems to resemble a reoccurring character in Dance Gavin Dance's songs "the robot with human hair" and is further supported by the fact that one of the songs he plays is named "untitled" which is the first song off their first album
when you are on your way to the slums you find some cans full of paint if you puss them you unlock a dialog with a robot saying that someone made a mess
Two things I would love to see 1. The cat with the bag on its head, walking backwards trying to get it off, a classic 2. The eye changing depending on the light. Not the creepy reflection

Lupin can also be reference to the anime series Lupin The Third, which in itself is about the grandson of Aresene Lupin. The last series came out last year for Japan with Part 6 and the film Lupin The Third The First came out a few years ago.
Cartoons and anime really need to be referenced more in video games and other media, I must say. Beats the likes of memes, Internet phenomena, and live action movies and shows at times.
Yeah,B-12 was actually observing the cat and nods the camera to hint that the cat is doing the right thing and should continue on its path so that it can help B-12
I’m pretty sure everything about the Doc and Marty sequence is a reference. Like the De’Flux’or and I’m pretty sure the name Seamus was also Marty’s great-great-grandfather’s name.
Yep. Seamus is Marty's middle name, and Seamus wears Marty's vest. The obvious is the gun needing 1.21 giggawatts of power. I LOVED that whole sequence.
Cats eye have cells that reflet light to amplify the light in the dark and as result cat eyes glow in the dark when you shine llight into them. Similar to safety reflector.
Captain I have a reference for you but I’m not sure if you’ve done it yet. In Mafia Definitive edition one of the main hotels is called the “Corleone” referencing Don Corleone from the Godfather
If you want another easter egg, in bad piggies, in the main menu, you can find a blobfish, if you touch it you can get it as an alternative skin for one of your items
I just found a small detail in Fallout 4. When I was doing the first Railroad quest after clearing the switchboard (the one where you escort H2-22). While I was waiting in the church, I had Cait as my companion. And since there wasn't active combat and I wasn't talking to her, she decided to sit down and pray
It turns out that, if you sit in the menu long enough (about 3 minutes), a nice piano melody will start playing, I have no idea what it is but it sounds somewhat familiar
"demon cat" "not a cat person" dogs have it too, but it's more terrifying because they get red eyes lol. I find it a little funny that I knew all of these already because I have dumb random knowledge, and I explored the game so thoroughly
I was blown away... Mankind divided is one of my all time most loved games Adam jensen is a hero more people should get to know I never ever noticed the pool table physics that's incredible detail
I think the "Hello you" Easter egg might be a reference to Larry Bundy Jr, AKA Guru Larry. His channel also covers obscure video game details. "Hello you" is kinda his catchphrase.
i could be wrong but the back to the future reference in stray could have another detail. docs son "seamus" could be a reference to "seamus mcfly" in back to the future 3 also played by michael j fox, and is supposed to be the great grandfather to marty mcfly

In the library the How to develop your artificial intelligence in order to be as creative as a real human, volume 42 book is a hitch hikers guide to the galaxy reference

This was lovely! And way, way too short. More Easter Eggs from Stray, please sir! (not an intentional Oliver reference but if that works, I'm fine with it)
im no expert but i think many nocturnal animals have glowing eyes like that, i believe what it is is that its reflecting more light lettting the animal to see better in the dark and while cats are up at pretty much any time of day their eyes were evolved for nocturnal use

When the cat’s eye glow up in the dark, he says it’s “terrifying”. When I saw them glow up I said “hi baby!”

The main menu one is something cat eyes naturally do IRL. It ain't a demon cat

It happens in "Midtown", not "The Slums"...
he also approaches platons cave allegory which i found very interesting!
I think there might be some who survived the other walled cities
Soma
I wonder if all the companions in the city have remnants of human minds downloaded into them. Perhaps their humanity has become lost over time, or their minds have been corrupted by being rebooted, like what happens to companions who are sent to prison. The companions in the control room area have no free will or personality. They must be what they were like before the humans were forced to transfer their minds into them.
@@CaveyMoth I don't remember who the companions were.
@@XeresKyle Basically all of the robot humanoids
It makes sense that a robot would be put into Stray as a reference to Sojiro Sakura. He has a soft spot for cats. I also thought that the robot's attire was a reference to him, as well, but unfortunately I don't see any time in Persona 5, Royal, or Strikers in which Sojiro wears overalls. Though I guess it could be that he simply looks like the kind of person who would.
On a side note, though, I would love to see an alternate costume for the cat based on Morgana due to this reference, lol. Are there any iconic house cats in any Back to the Future films? I unfortunately never watched any of them.
Not really, no, but believe me, you really should binge the movie trilogy.
Ooo.
might be a mod for it by now, they made a garfield cat reskin already
@@prcervi I also saw Spyro, lol.
1:25 The reason the cat has glowing eyes is because light is reflecting of its tapetum lucidium you can even see this in some dogs eyes at night time
Dude I have an outdoor dog and whenever I go outside at night and he’s laying outside his doghouse and looks at me, I still get a little spooked because I think he’s a coyote and I get freaked lol
elliot the programmer actually is a reference to tv show mr robot.
I hear barney still has nightmares about that cat
@@Jamesaw15 what cat?
@@whos_nolan just don't care. teleport she.
@@whos_nolan i believe the same question was raised in game by Alyx when she was about to be teleported.
Another small detail that I loved: the cat is breathing! Like they animated it!
I've seen cat's eyes look like that, it's just their eyes reflecting light I see it all the time.
Na, it’s a demon thing and you can’t convince me otherwise 👀
Demon cat! demon cat!
Demon cat _😼_
Not just cats even u so ur a demon XD
Which is why road studs are called "cat's eyes" in the first place, they are all over the place in the UK, IIRC they were installed during the second World War to guide motorists during blackouts
A robot in Midtown (I forgot where he is, maybe at the back of Night Club) says his friend Pablo is in prison and we see Pablo in prison
Unless they added in a new one since I played it
it IS an important fact
@@coloredkiwi1562yeah you get the holo back pack after getting all b-12’s memories, which I find kind of dumb, because the last memory isn’t acquired until like 10 before the end of the game so you barely get any playtime with it. Unless you replay chapters on that same save like you said
The two DJs in the club shares a colour resemblance to Daft Punk
I always find the cat eye glow quite cute.
The zerks actually look more like the snorks from the first Half Life. Act and move like them to.
Yeah! And they even kind of sound like them, too.
Cat at the menu: Yo you gonna play or what?
One thing you probaly missed: The programmer in the Slums, Elliot, is probaly a reference to Elliot from Mr.Robot
It definitely is. When I first saw him I was thinking it was weird for a robot to feel cold, but now it makes sense
1:14 Tell me you're not a cat person, without telling me you're not a cat person.
A litter refers to a group of siblings born of the same mother and this is also known as litter mates and we really don't know if the cats in the beginning of Stray are from the same litter.
it was the first ive heard of the word too
tho i wouldnt think they knew of such old anime
( youre the first person i know that also know of the anime )
Glowing eyes is for animals when they are in the dark, it's actually very common, and nothing to fear.
in stray there is a table with 2 robots at some point playing Mahjong ( old japanese bord game ) anyway the detail i love the most is when you jump up on the table and try to play with them
Cat: purrs while eyes reflect light
Dog dude: *gasp* DEMON
You wont convince me otherwise
@@CaptainEggcellent dogs also have light reflecting eyes, it’s just for seeing better in the dark which cats are better at. i think it’s comforting knowing that the main character of the game was there on the title screen all along, and the eyes are the only thing that give it away
I'm not sure if this one is intentional or not but nonetheless Morusque seems to resemble a reoccurring character in Dance Gavin Dance's songs "the robot with human hair" and is further supported by the fact that one of the songs he plays is named "untitled" which is the first song off their first album
Death of a Robot with Human Hair is my favorite DGD song. I hope you're right!
1:07 it’s not that terrifying considering that cats have reflective eyes, which make their eyes glow when a light is shined at their face
when you are on your way to the slums you find some cans full of paint if you puss them you unlock a dialog with a robot saying that someone made a mess
Out of all of the 8 music sheets, only #6 really caught my attention but I couldn't tell why. Now it makes sense, rip Nujabes.
Two things I would love to see
1. The cat with the bag on its head, walking backwards trying to get it off, a classic
2. The eye changing depending on the light. Not the creepy reflection
HOWEVER when the cat gets up (instead of staying out of screen) it FLOATS, it did not jump, it did not get lifted by a lift nor picked up, but it floats like its possesed
i want to see people doing a stray run with paperbag challenge
Would be fun, but it comes off too easily!
Stray has got to be one of the most pleasantly surprising games I've seen.
I felt the room you steal the battery from maybe be a reference to portal....the fact you press buttons and the music changes to a portal test chamber style music too!
Lupin can also be reference to the anime series Lupin The Third, which in itself is about the grandson of Aresene Lupin. The last series came out last year for Japan with Part 6 and the film Lupin The Third The First came out a few years ago.
The fact that i recognized the crowbar immediately shows that I’m a true valve fan😂
I'm so glad they put in a gravity falls reference.
Cartoons and anime really need to be referenced more in video games and other media, I must say. Beats the likes of memes, Internet phenomena, and live action movies and shows at times.
Lmao the demon cat knowing well as fuck it’s a cats night vision reflection
For the security camera detail its only for the first half of the game up till you meet b12 after that I couldn't get the cameras to do it again :)
Yeah,B-12 was actually observing the cat and nods the camera to hint that the cat is doing the right thing and should continue on its path so that it can help B-12
"It can't be just me who finds the cat's glowing eyes terrifying"
Yes it can. I thought it was very cute.
I’m pretty sure everything about the Doc and Marty sequence is a reference.
Like the De’Flux’or
and I’m pretty sure the name Seamus was also Marty’s great-great-grandfather’s name.
Yep. Seamus is Marty's middle name, and Seamus wears Marty's vest. The obvious is the gun needing 1.21 giggawatts of power. I LOVED that whole sequence.
Cats have eyes that reflect light to make them "glow" in the dark. So that's not a demon cat, they just have that happen naturally.
1:52 is that Larry Bundy Jr easter egg?
Cats eye have cells that reflet light to amplify the light in the dark and as result cat eyes glow in the dark when you shine llight into them. Similar to safety reflector.
Captain I have a reference for you but I’m not sure if you’ve done it yet. In Mafia Definitive edition one of the main hotels is called the “Corleone” referencing Don Corleone from the Godfather
For the first time, I found all of the Easter Eggs and details that I watched in your video before I watched the video!
If you want another easter egg, in bad piggies, in the main menu, you can find a blobfish, if you touch it you can get it as an alternative skin for one of your items
Might I add, the fact that you can hide in cardboard boxes to evade the sentinel drones is totally not a reference to Metal Gear Solid games 😎
Anyone that read this, you have been blessed and will have a good day.
I'm just happy I didn't go to work today
"demon cat" "not a cat person" dogs have it too, but it's more terrifying because they get red eyes lol. I find it a little funny that I knew all of these already because I have dumb random knowledge, and I explored the game so thoroughly
I was blown away... Mankind divided is one of my all time most loved games Adam jensen is a hero more people should get to know I never ever noticed the pool table physics that's incredible detail
Wow Nujabes Counting Stars is one of my favorite songs of his!! I had to play that part twice before I actually recognized the melody.
The paper bag actually reverses your controls! The cat just also wobbles around a bit and won't keep completely straight in any direction.
9:11 - Nujabes is such a legend fr
Fun fact stray was based of a place in hong kong called Kowloon city it had over 30k people living in it but was eventually demolished (1990-1994)
I think the "Hello you" Easter egg might be a reference to Larry Bundy Jr, AKA Guru Larry. His channel also covers obscure video game details. "Hello you" is kinda his catchphrase.
the fact the camera nodding to the cat meow make it so cute
Stray is one of the best of 2022
That Nujabes Easter egg.. that one hit me close to home. I remember listening to all of his music. Such a talented soul. RIP
i could be wrong but the back to the future reference in stray could have another detail. docs son "seamus" could be a reference to "seamus mcfly" in back to the future 3 also played by michael j fox, and is supposed to be the great grandfather to marty mcfly
easter egg videos should've categories now, as it is well-known now than it was before, from rare/first time references to the most popular/over saturated ones
In Multiversus when you sneak walk( crawl) with Velma and she loses her glasses the screen gets slightly blurry
If I remember correctly in midtown there is a crowbar hanging on a red valve in a dead end alley way even more to the Easter egg
Love this! I did almost all of these things but didn't realize there were so many homages to pop culture. Thank you for sharing :)
what about the ramen (RamenJ45) made of rj45 cables, that was gold
Bro stans journal as a paw print has to be top ten easter eggs of all time
In the library the How to develop your artificial intelligence in order to be as creative as a real human, volume 42 book is a hitch hikers guide to the galaxy reference
Some of my favorite details is how each robot has a different reaction to your meows.
Also, I wonder if there's a metal gear reference to the hiding in boxes moments.
In Road 96 there’s a story mission where you help Sonya in the hotel, if you listen into one of the rooms you can hear a bed squeaking.
You missed something. In one of the houses ( can’t remember which one) there is a reference to The Shinings floor textile as wallpaper!!
