Awesome video, good luck in the future. I've got the 1997, just getting it ready for road worthy MOT test here in the UK. Few things I've come across so far: The temp gauge was an issue (might have been the same for the first car you looked at) and it was just the gauge. I had to use a salvage yard replacement as they're discontinued in Japan. Easy to replace, but all parts are HIGH END quality and you want to make sure you don't even breathe on them. The plastic on the cluster is like a piece of flawless matt granite. The brake master cylinder is discontinued. All other brake OEM parts are available. The main ECT sensor is available, but the secondary one (name + part number can't remember right now) seems to be discontinued. Normally I think they're next to each other by the thermostat, but my version just seems to have main ECT one. The OEM oil filters seem to be made in Taiwan & China. They only sell the Chinese ones here in the UK, buy they're from Taiwan in Japan. The coolant expansion cap is discontinued, I can't even find a TRD one - or if I can, it doesn't look the same. All other caps are good to go. I think something to do with the coolant expansion tank is discontinued as well. Other parts I've replaced: radiator, thermostat, coolant blower valve (the valve that lets the coolant to the blower), brake pads & discs, all caps, filters. Some body trim (scratched trim) needs doing after the MOT and I can still get that as well. Generally most parts seem to be available in Japan. And I got some from America as well - taking into account LHD & RHD. Hope it works out. I plan on keeping mine until I die.
Can’t thank you enough for all the valuable information. They are great cars and worthy of the extra care. Stay tuned, lots more coming. I do plan on racking up a lot of miles on it.
Just bought a 96. Speedometer not functioning. Engine light on. Little shaky like yours was at first. Headlights not bright despite new bulbs. Same color as yours but faded. Enjoyed the video. Gave me some ideas on what I need to look for.
The speedometer needs to be sent out, bad capacitors. The check engine light needs to be diagnosed, I had bad oxygen sensors. The shaking also needs to be checked, could be suspension it could be tires.
ES330. I noticed there is not a ton of content on them on TH-cam. The FWD V6 doesn't seem to get as much attention as the silky smooth legendary V8!@@VikingsGarage
Nice v8! Those older lexus cars are tanks and have 3 or 4 extra screws per cheap clips comparing to modern cars. Good and bad lol. Those engines I believe can get 500k with good maintenance.
Man when you first showed the up close of the brake line I INSTANTLY saw there were no crush washers. WTF..... Oh and what's up with that backing plate. It looks like its seen better days too.
You my friend have very good eyes, the backing plate feel off when I took the wheel off. I didn’t even bother to mention that.If you watch the footage close, the backing plate it’s actually sitting on the wheel itself. 😅 Little by little, w’ll bring this old lady back to her former self or at least close to it. Thank you for watching!
@@VikingsGarage Yeah i had a car in yesterday for inspection that was about half a step away from being in the same condition. Then one after it that had no backing plate left at all. Thank YOU for putting out great content.
JUST ordered a patch and a sticker from your Etsy shop. Headed to VA after you process it! Just happened to see the link for them in your description lol never noticed it in all this time lol Ooooh this is gonna be a good series!! Saw another mechanic on here do a video on an SC430 that was all rusted out underneath, but beautiful body and interior. He claimed it was “the most hated sports car”, but I don’t think he’s a yota fan like we all are though so that’s expected from those types. He just mad because they don’t require a lot of visits to the mechanic and therefore don’t make him money like fiats and fords/chevys do lol anyways, can’t wait to see everything done with this beautiful car that surprisingly doesn’t seem to have too much rust for where you live!! Definite plus there!! Appreciate’chya!
That JDM 🔥🔥🔥❤️ I have a question how much would it cost me for a softex oem 4runner ORP seats two front and rear seats no 3rd row from Toyota plus intall two front heated seats THANKS!!!
If you’re vehicle doesn’t have heated seats, the main harness is different so is the multiplex. What you mentioned is so expensive to accomplish…. You better of getting another 4Runner. Those softex seat covers are also not cheap.
That is undeniably true! It’s a great car but get ready to wrench and diagnose. Currently running and riding like a dream! The 4Runner stuff ain’t going nowhere, I love my 4Runner!!

@@VikingsGarage Made a mistake: oil filters mad e in Thailand not Taiwan. Was a bit late when I posted this. Thanks again for the video, all the best.

That temp is a whole notch higher than normal, dodged a bullet.

@teamhonzilla no I don’t.

Why didn't you bring a scanner with you?
I did!! 😉

Nice car but definitely you have to be mechanically inclined to own something this old and this complex in electronics.

How much did you get the toyota t-iv fluid for per quart
Employees pricing was about $4.65 per quart.

I believe the whole case is $45.
