Tanjong Pagar car crash: Coroner rules accident that killed 5 people was a traffic misadventure

- A sad and tragic event, tinged with an element of bravado -- that's how the State Coroner has described the Tanjong Pagar car crash that led to five men losing their lives. The driver Jonathan Long was found to have been drink-driving. He was also speeding at nearly three and a half times over the limit. On the final round, Long clocked a speed of up to 182km/h, before applying the brakes when he lost control, but it was too late.

The gov should have awarded the deceased medals for their hard work and thanked them for proving speeding kills.

The entire group of friends gathering around to watch the race… film the race… will live in fear n regrets for their entire life… There is no 2nd chance in life when comes to drink driving… they deserve it? Well v fortunate no innocent ppl was killed in the accident. The driver & passenger in the car… their own action… they have to b responsible for themselves. Who suffer? My breadwinner motorcyclist uncle was killed on the way home from work by a reckless driver doing an illegal u-turn from a country club, & all the newspaper reported on at that time was how pitiful the rich man was, whose wife was on the wrong side of the Mercedes

luckily they only did this at night when nobody was around.... if it was in the middle of the day on that crowded street, easily 100 people would have been injured/dead.
You do know it's not easy to kill 100 people with a car right? Even if you are looking to do it.
unlikely to do it in the middle of the day since the traffic around would basically prevent them from excessive speeding. Have you seen anyone speeding in the midst of a traffic jam? Got to look beyond the bare surface.
Drink driving and speeding doesn't deserve sympathy.

That depends on what is your objective? You want to sentience him to jail or give him demerit points? Maybe suspend his driving licence? Or you want to pursue compensation for damaging the property or loss of his friends’ lives. What do you want to achieve?

That is A Moot point as the car may Not Have BURST INTO Flames n they may have Survived n not be charred
@@vincecarlo The State Coroner already mentioned in the video, those people within the car are likely "barely alive" before the flame. The chances are slim (though not none) for them to survive after that.
Nothing much is mentioned here but it's likely that the fuel tank are located around the back of the car, sudden compression would have compromised it and likely cause the fire. Would be great if they could investigate more into how the fire started and if it would contribute to better car safety.

its sad they took over a year to come to a conclusion i came up with within seconds of hearing this news last year.
You're jumping to conclusion while the State Coroner is using evidence based science to prove and conclude the results. They are also investigating a ton of other stuff which you would not have been able to know or provide.
While your guess work may have been right this time, no one would bet that you will always get it right, especially missing a lot of the other information.

Although LTA had made improvements at the accident spot but the remainder of Tanjong Pagar Rd from tha spot till T junction of Tras Link still post high risk of accidents due the the URA street parking lots along that stretch Tanjong Pagar Rd. Hope LTA & URA remove these street parking lots in both directions (towards Tras Link & from Tras Link towards Maxwell Rd junction).
Yes true..! Should remove the street parking and also put a zebra crossing/traffic light at the cab stand there! People want to cross the other side also cannot do so safely, because blocked by those idiotic parked cars.. The road is narrow because of these cars, and busses going both ways 😔

This is the closure lah. You think the Coroner was gossiping, meh? All unnatural deaths are investigated so that foul play can be ruled out, isn’t that good?
Why call it a misadventure when it was deliberate suicidal behaviour right from the start.
Anyway they choose their own decision in life and pay the price for it with their lives.
