    He's right--this works. I've had my Soda Stream hooked up to a 20 lb. (9kg) tank for ages. A tank refill costs about 25 bucks and lasts about a year, sometimes longer. And I drink a lot of seltzer water. Using their small tanks was costing me at least 30 bucks a month or more.

    I went to an air-gas supplier here in Seattle and it was easy as pie... They sold me a 25# bottle with siphon tube (because you need the liquid at the bottom, not the gas at the top) (though you can also just turn the bottle upside down so liquid is coming out the valve)... Fittings were standard... I chose to recharge the little bottle that comes with the Drinkmate and NOT direct supply from the bigger bottle... If you choose to supply from the bigger bottle, you want the gas, not the liquid CO2... Just tell the gas supplier what you're doing and they'll set you up...
    Direct from big bottle... Gas
    Charging little bottle... Liquid
    Turned out to be an easy job... And one more thing... I found that if you charge the water bottle once, take it off and shake it a few seconds, you can charge more CO2 into it... Hope this all helps.

    i've loved sparkling water Aka:- soda water since i was a kid, i used to make it in the old wire encased soda bottles my dad had for his bar. it was bloody expensive back then and i only ever had it as a treat, then came sodastream in my late teens around the late 70s and it was like i had died and gone to heaven, i have been drinking gobs of soda water ever since, at least a litre a day on average, a lot more in summer ive always filled the bottles of water and prechilled them to almost 0° to absorb as much gas as possible and to turbocharge them when i get the gas up to blowoff i take the whole setup and shake the shit out of it while charging more gas into it to keep it at maximum pressure, shaking it helps to dissolve more gas into the water quickly. i love it at night time or first thing in the morning when ones mouth feels like the bottom of a cockys cage, a good swig of that cleans your mouth out like a scouring pad and it feels like you've just brushed your teeth. ive often thought about putting a large commercial keg bottle hooked up but never bothered because of it being too cumbersome. i never knew these small ones were available but now that you have a workable bottle with the adapter im in.

    Just watched your other video on refilling soda steam bottle from your 2.6kg cylinder, and you say you have to invert your 2.6kg cylinder when filling as it does not have internal tube to pass through gas into the co2, this being the case when direct hooking up soda stream machine via your hose to 2.6kg cylinder as in this video do you have to have 2.6kg cylinder inverted all the time?

      NO! You only want it inverted or with a riser tube, to get liquid CO2 out of the bottle, to fill smaller pressure bottles. For drinks, you want the gas CO2 from the top of the bottle. Filling liquid co2 into those drinking bottles will burst them from over pressure and it's definitely not healthy to try to drink that.

I routed the hose in a gap between the countertop and a free standing stove, and lived with the unit sitting on an angle rather than take to my top with a hole saw. • @KegLand

      When refilling a soda stream bottle, you need to turn the larger host bottle up side down (if your cylinder does not have a dip tube) to allow the liquid transfer of CO2. When using the freedom one hose, you want just high pressure gas going up to the Soda stream machine and hence why you do not need to turn it upside down.

    Even cheaper to open the bottle up and funnel in dry ice. Make sure you only add the weight of dry ice that the cylinder is rated for. Put the top back on let it sit until the dry ice evaporates back to co2. All you need is a weight scale and 3 dollars of dry ice and a funnel.

      @@nowonmetube This is ok but you tend to get issues with moisture getting into the cylinder. Dry ice almost always contains some degree of moisture. Even in the short period moisture in the air freezes to the surface of the dry ice. This moisture then gets into the cylinder. • @KegLand
      @KegLand  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We are not concerned about losing a small amount of profit so this was not the reason for the previous statement. Having dry gas that doesn't contain water is really important and it's difficult to properly dry the cylinder once you get water into it unless you take the valve out which is a pain.
      The issues is that water can freeze. If you draw a lot of gas at once your regulator can get sub zero and the cylinder itself can also get sub zero. If you have moisture in the gas it will freeze when this happens and frozen ice really is a fast way to damage your seals and o-rings.
      If someone then uses the cylinder on other keg dispensing regulators the water also causes corrosion issues and prevents the regulator seat and seat cap working well.
      We go to great lengths to prevent contamination in the cylinders and to remove a valve and knowingly then risk putting moisture into the cylinder just doesn't seem like a good idea to us.

      James, the gas being CO2 it is non-flammable, no risk of fire or explosion. @ronnie doorzon Would agree. I don't think Sodastream have correct usage recommendations regarding consumption. I think they must base the consumption on very lightly carbonated water. The only issue with dry is this method always gets gets moisture from the air into the bottle. This h20 when it goes through the sodastream machine can freeze and if frozen water gets into some parts of the sodastream machine it can damage the machine.

    Then Wait at least 30 seconds before doing another Fizz button.
    Then Wait another 30 seconds for the third Fizz.
    And finally - Wait 10 to 15 seconds and release the bottle.
    This gives the CO2 time to dissolve into the water.
    When press, press, press and Release in a few seconds... there is not sufficient time for the CO2 to dissolve in water.
    Everyone who does the 'wait' between the three Fizz will use LESS CO2 and have Very Fizzy water, wine, tequila, vodka (anything other than water - only fill bottle to the 25 to 33% amount/volume of the SodaStream Bottle - do not fill to the WATER Line with wine or alcohols). :)

    Hi there @kegland - question: I've got one of your sodastream to external CO2 bottles adapters. It works great BUT.... after I dispense gas from the bottle via the sodastream it keeps leaking gas through the nozzle of the soda stream unit (you can tell because there are little bubbles of gas still emerging into the bottle of water you just fizzed even though you are no longer depressing the bottom on top). Tried a new sodastream unit (different model) - same problem. You can stop this by turning off the as bottle itself but that's a pain everytime you want to gas something. Any thoughts????

      if you get a CO2 ball valve at the bottle (for your sanity's sake dont google CO2 ball cock, its proper name, like i just did lmao) - at least shutting off the gas would be a 90 degree lever turn instead of many turns?

    You can do it even easier and cheaper by simply unscrewing the top of the empty bottle that the machines come with, and refilling it with 400 grams of dry ice. Once it warms up and reaches room temperature, the bottle is pressurized and ready to use and it only costs a few dollars.

      This allows you to connect to any size CO2 tank, which can go to upwards of 20lb tanks (or roughly 23 times the CO2 amount in the original canister), and you can simply bring it to any gas charging place to refill it for $10-15. Compare that to probably 25-30lbs of dry ice when you factor in the loss due to sublimation, time lost due to 23 refills, and the eventual damage to the top/o-ring from all of those refills.

      Yes this is possible but the hole you need to drill in the bench is larger. The quick release and hose only requires a small hole but if we did not do this you would have to make a hole that is double the size.
      It's probably fair to say that the quick release can also add another set of o-rings to the unit which you have to maintain. So personally i think they could be removed and this might even be better to have the hoses setup this way. I mean not that many of our customers seem to run the hose through bench top.

    Hello, does anyone know what my machine is leaking gas from the top that inserts into the water bottle? I've ordered 2 of these things already.. they both worked for 2 days then they leak from the very tip. It seams as if the part that connects to the soda machine has a spring type of valve pin and that pin keeps getting stuck and doesn't retract.. any recommendation would be appreciated, thank you!

    • @KegLand
      @KegLand  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If this is happening on a regular basis then you might want to look at the source of gas. If you have rust in the gas cylinder or other contamiination this is the most likely cause as this type of contamination gets stuck into the pin. You can take apare the valve and clean this out fairly easily but if you cylinder is dirty inside the issue will keep happening.

      @@KegLand thank you for the reply! I will try to clean out the spring/retractable pin part. Also, the cylinder I have was given to me by my neighbor who owned it for years it came with the gas filled inside.. so that's very likely the situation! Old, dirty, tank 😁 thank again! 🍻✌️😎

      Depending on what country you are in, contact companies such as Linde or BOC. They are the leaders in this field with great prices. They could supply you with thousands of these cylinders, including refilling, without a problem.

    This looks great, but in researching it, some people say the pressure from the 5lb tanks blows out the seals in the soda stream.

    • @KegLand
      @KegLand  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That doesnt sound correct to me. The pressure in the 5lb tanks is the same as the smaller sodastream cylinders. Both have the same working pressure. Where are they blowing out the seal in the sodastream cylinder?

    Does the larger C02 tanks need to have a siphon tube in side the tank

    • @KegLand
      @KegLand  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not about size. some large tanks have them and some don't. It will normally be marked on the outside of the tank indicating if the tube is connected to the valve or not. Some companies use a band or different paint job to indicate this too.
