"Summertime on Bredon" from On Wenlock Edge by Ralph Vaughan Williams
April 17, 2015
My God!! What an incredibly beautiful voice you have. Every phrase... every whim of thought from such a source of artistic power drives straight into me from someone who can ponder, still and focused in front of living faces and deliver straight from the heart. I love this song (Vaughan-Williams' studies with Ravel, parallel chords and something of a pedal to continually compromise the harmony. Warmth and fluffy 7th s and 9th s). I 'Go West' from Derby to visit wonderful Shropshire and the Welsh Marches. All of it's haunting and magical. This song means so much to me, I needed someone to sing it properly. As in The Matrix, Ben... you are The One. it seems to be, for me, not sad things that make me blub; more those things which are beautiful. Thanks for delivering me to tears. You (and your tremendous ensemble :) All truly great.
A heart-breaking song - the emotion is beautifully and powerfully conveyed by this masterful performance. Well done to all!
What a superb pair you and your accompanist make and what a pleasure to hear these English songs which are so rarely heard. Thank you so much.
Fantastic work. Genuinely wonderful performance by all.

I am a Fan
Can’t do with the heavy singers
I was searching for a different melody which I used to have the sheet music for
But I’m trawling TH-cam and have not found it
And going through about 3 cwts Of Sheet Music ( I play and used to conduct the HEXHAM Male Voice Choir about 7 Years Ago for about 3 Years

Beautiful singing. But I’m not sure about the departure from the original lyric’s first stanza.
Dennis Weatherly sang it to us when we picked potatoes on Bredon Hill.
