Bought the 23c for my fiance so she would stop stealing my razors for her leg shaves. She said it was way too mild. Did a face shave the next day to see if it was her technique and I would agree with your assessment that it is definitely a mild shaver. 3 passes and some touch ups for a DFS, if that. Probably make a good razor for someone new to wet shaving. Just my opinion. Enjoy your videos!!
Great video Mark, thank you. My first DE razor was a 34C and I love it. I just wish the handle was a bit longer. After watching this, I think I'd go for the 25C. None of my current razors have a buffer ring. Is that just a small nylon washer I can pick up at the hardware store? Thanks again!!
Thank you for the review... I've ordered the exact same razor but with a black PVD coating for the same price as the silver one.... Will try my first shave on Monday morning... I've ordered astra... Feather.. Derby premium blades... And proraso wood and spice shave cream.....
The 23C is my travel razor when the weather is warm. Even though I try to apply sunscreen often, when I travel in the sun/heat, my face always becomes a little extra tender. This razor allows me to still shave often with no additional irritation. It knocks the whiskers down enough that I don't look scruffy but mild enough that I don't have to worry about additional razor burn on top of sun burn. Other than that I don't use it too often for the reasons you mentioned.
I own a mühle r89 and r41 now ive ordered a merkur 23c would the merkur be milder than the r89? Ive also bought a variety of blades to see which one suits me, my stubble isnt very thick but its tough if i left it for a week or more. Thanks for the video.
I have been using this razor for around 6 mths now and its ok just a little too mild for me as i shave every two to three days so i shim it using another razor blade w/ the edges cut off and now i have the aggressiveness that works for me. In time I hope to purchase a slant razor like the Parker semi slant but for now this works. P.S i dont have to shim it if i am using a thicker blade like the merkur blade that came with it but i use the thinner Astra SP blades so shimming is necessarily for my use. Great videos man.

Yes, the vintage Gillette Tech travel razor was a disappointment the first time out. I did a second shave with a different blade and the shave improved. There have also been a few razors that have been far too aggressive for me. However just because it was too aggressive for me does not make it a bad razor. Someone else might absolutely love the more aggressive shave.

Had this model back in 2009…it finally broke and rebought and they MUST have changed something because it’s essentially useless. It does not cut jack.
