Literally just picked this up last week but had to finish trails of cold steel before starting a new rpg. Super pumped after watching your review. As a 41 yr old gamer who's been gaming their entire life, I'm always looking for something new and fresh. This fits the bill for sure. 👍
I liked the music in Zanki Zero. Also, something you forgot to mention; you can change the tracks at any time when you click the top left corner (the radio).
Just beat this game today and I really enjoyed it. Tempted to do new game + despite my backlog lol. I’m glad I randomly came across this game as it ticked a lot of boxes for me and bought it without much research. The definition of a hidden gem. And that ending…😭
I love this game, its replayability is great. The story gets messy but nonetheless I cried hard at the ending. Lile, really hard. Sobbing. I love these characters. The mechanics are simple and fun, and get a lil complex when you use them the way you want them to.
Also you can use an empty bottle to relieve yourself in game. Grant it, it builds stress, but you can then use water to reduce that stress. This game is mostly balancing mechanics.
This game looks to be an interesting take on the dungeon crawler/survival genre. I'll admit that I initially had little interest in this game at first but after watching your review, I think I could get into it.
Sold ! I was doubtful about this game, just because of the dungeon-crawler stuff but this sounds brilliant. Thanks for describing what the difficulty modes do. When you were explaining the survival features I thought that I would have to buy it on PC so that I could cheat-engine them away - despite it being £10 cheaper on ps4 physical. Easy-Mode 4 life :)
i would say that at difficulty 3, the one im playing, its more a horror game where each step could be your last than a survival game lol...like, stamina decrease quite slowly and just having 16 jerky easily suffice for 1h30 dungeon run, add only 4 empty bottle for he bladder et some water for destress and everythings fine.
I thought the game was very enjoyable. Honestly, only picked it up because of the names attached to it, but I really liked the survival aspect. My only negative is the story kinda nose dived after a certain reveal, and it didn’t pick back up until the ending which I loved. I also mainly got this because I loved Zero Escape and Danganronpa series, lol.
I hope you enjoy it! I know it was pretty divisive for some people but those who liked it seemed to like it a lot. Just reading this post and being reminded of the game there's certain character stories that come immediately to mind and like, I'm kind of in awe that the game left such an impression on me still haha.
Yeah, I saw the original Japanese reviews. Not sure if the Vita version was just that different or if our views on some of the subject matter vary that much, but it seems many niche gamers in the west are loving it.
@@TarksGauntlet well, its certainly one of the most niche game out there XD (that one hit kill danger is what keeps you on your toes, it gives a horror vibe in the dungeon, try playing it again when you want to be afraid, it may well gives you goosebumps with all the strange noise at max volume.)
I don’t think you fully understand the shigibane system, as you only mention it one time. Combat is easy sometimes and hard the other times due to this system. Basically, once your character dies to a particular creature or hazard then that character builds a defense to that creature or hazard once the character is reborn. You seemed to mention as it relates to some hazards, but it goes depose than simple hazards.
I wouldn't assume a lack of understanding. Moreso "When does detail become minutiae?" You can only put so much in a review before it gets absurd. It's generally okay to leave some details out for players to learn as they play.
Been meaning to pick this one up for a while... just wish it had come out for Switch as well, as I’m away from my PS4 for several months 😭😭 darn Oh and GREAT review btw
Great review! I've been super curious about this game with all the buzz I've been hearing. Would you recommend this over Labyrinth of Refrain? The reason I ask is because they are both first-person dungeon crawlers.
I would yeah. Labyrinth of refrain is really unique in different ways, but this felt like the fresher and more engaging experience to me. That said, this doesn't have dungeon RPG styled combat at all, just dungeon RPG exploration. So if you want drpg combat, go refrain.
I'm not into dungeon crawlers and not a big fan of survival mechanics. The story would be the main reason why I'd get this. I'll consider getting it if it's in English on Vita.
I like it right up until the ending. The ending, however, ruined a lot of the good will the game had bought with me. It didn't help, perhaps, that I found the two mascot characters to be grating and annoying more then funny, and their interspacing of random humor into the series story a distraction, not a breath of fresh air. If the ending didn't hit me as bad for so many reasons (all of which are spoilers to say), I'd have enjoyed the game just fine as a visual-novel (i did play on the easiest difficulty as the gameplay did nothing for me. Worth getting on sale, likely worth 30$. I would not recommend this too general audiences though.
Very little of it is similar to danganronpa so using that as a basis of reference wouldn't be too useful, but I did love the game and wasn't disappointed that I bought it at full price at all
Tiger Festivals Why bother coming to this video if you are bothered by the censorship of this game? It makes no real sense if you come watch a really of a game you won’t buy because of censorship and price issues.
The censorship is not bad enough to stop the enjoyment of this game. It isn't something really stupid like tokyo mirage sessions or fire emblem fates. The alterations do nothing to ruin the game. All it does is make relationship grinding take longer.
Hearing about that censorship actually makes me a lot more interested in the game. I played the demo and was really worried there was gonna be gross shit like that in it, so it being taken out is a huge positive.
I really loved the Zero Escape and Danganronpa games, so naturally I'd like to support the devs and the game does look interesting - but the virtue signaling self censorship is just too game breaking for me. Let's just hope they realize their fallacy after loosing money, before they go completely broke...
Dr. Snack Then I recommend you play AI: The Somnium Files. It has no censorship whatsoever and it is made by Zero Escape creator so if you love Zero Escape go play ittttttt.
Game looks great but I can't support such unnecessary censorship. Thanks for the review! Maybe I'll grab it for $5 in a couple years or if a restoration patch gets created.
@@tigerfestivals5137 I'm glad I'm not alone here. The censorship on this one is pretty minor, but it's still there. I can sort of agree with censorship if something was extremely graphically immoral or disturbing, but we're talking about some freaking panties here. Such a completely unnecessary thing to censor.
@@apriarcy Gtfo, NOTHING should be censored, the customers should always have the choice to buy, and the artists to express themselves, no form of art should ever be censored unless it's directly doing damage to REAL people irl. So not even a rape simulator game should be censored
Fun fact. The Japanese voice actors for Sho and Mirai are Goku and Frieza.
