A delightful field trip! Thank you Mr n Mrs Mahon and the Redmayne team for your generosity sharing a splice of your trade!
As comparison in fabric and cloth comes I'd like to think of the Italian as the playful artist while the English as the skillful technician. The Italian makes cloth for the dreamer, the dandy, the fashionista/to while the English makes timeless, classic, robust, and utilitarian cloths. Most importantly, neither is better than the other.
On the "Original Solaro" - as a sartorial enthusiast myself, I've looked and felt many many many variations of the solaro cloth and NO ONE makes it like Smith Woollens (Harrison's of Edinburgh) does - the shade, the weight, and the tactile handfeel are unmatched. Spring Ram is one of my absolute favorites in high-twist/open weave. Moonbeam is exactly how Mr. Mahon said "poor man's cashmere" - it is super soft to the touch, warm, and very affordable!
Unfortunately, I am in no position to enjoy clothes made out of these gorgeous fabrics, not because I cannot afford them but because I do not have a social life that would justify them, I know it sounds pathetic, but that is the way it is. I am an old man (64) living in an age and a country that has turned its back on elegance. Let´s face it, nowadays wearing a nice jacket and a tie turns you into a creature from another planet.
Having said this, I still enjoyed this wonderful video and I am happy that there are people like Mr. Mahon and Mr. Dunsford. I wish you and all the dedicated craftsmen who produce these beautiful fabrics and garments health and success in your noble trade. Greetings from Buenos Aires.
Please don't let that put you off. I've embraced being a creature from another planet. I dress well even when I'm in the house on my own. Go for it! All the best.
What a lovely comment Sir, Thank you so much. Delighted they're bringing you some pleasure. My very best, Tom.
An absolutely wonderful video! Mr. Mahon and the Redmayne team, you are true gems.
So glad you enjoyed it!
That Andrew Carnigie cloth is incredible! I look forward to the sport coat worn by Tom as a late Xmas gift to himself
It would look rather fantastic wouldn't it!
I really enjoyed that. Count me as a believer that the heavier the cloth, the better. I had a Redmayne Remote Suit Service suit made this past year in a 15/16 oz. Harrisons Universal cloth, and I have to say that before I received it I was a little worried it would be too heavy. But what I've found is that it's just wonderful to wear and oozes quality. I'm sure I'll be enjoying that suit for decades.
It was such a delight to work with you on your suit Sir and we're over the moon to hear that it surpasses your expectations in terms of the weight effecting its use in your wardrobe - If only we could persuade more gentlemen to join you in your discovery! Sending our very best to you and we've enjoyed finding your own amazing collection on work!
I love watching these videos because as the world is going on its way, something about tailors, merchants and the process of making fine clothing is actually comforting for me. Wonderful.
Thank you for your comment, we're so glad to hear your enjoying the videos.
Mr. Mahon, thank you this incredibly informative and heartwarming presentation.
Oh bless you Sir, we're delightt ot hear how much you enjoyed the video. Looking forward ot seeing you in the Spring on our return to the USA.
What a wonderful insight in to the world of tailoring. Fantastic!
Thank you for your lovely comment Mr Barber!
what a fantastic opportunity. Thank you so much!
Our pleasure thanks for watching
One more comment. If you took me into this warehouse (as your client), I would be hard pressed not to walk out with an order of 4 suits, 5 jackets, and 6 pants. It's great to see little swatches in books but it's quite another to see bolts of fabric that you can touch. I think (from one business owner to another), you should take your van, load it up with clients, and drive up to the warehouse. You will probably need to hire at least 3 more people. Cheers.
This was very enjoyable. Hope we get more of these long videos from you!
We're certainly hoping to put together a few more as time and the opportunities allow. Thanks so much for watching and letting us know you enjoyed it.
@@savilerowtales love to hear it!
Brilliant. Wonderful. That Carnegie cashmere is amazing. I think I would need at least 300 suits to satisfy all the wonderful cloth selections!
It's pretty stunning Sir - and Mr Mahon would be right behind you with all the suits that he would love to order too - all those colours and textures theres so much to pick from.
very classy presentation. wonderful fabrics.
Thank you, We're glad you enjoyed the video.
How clumsy I was! I was waiting for this video on the Savile Row Tales blog, but finally, I found it on TH-cam.
Tom and I are in the same age group, so I traced my life when Mr Dansford explained the events about acquiring famous brands. I remember the time when I visited the Smithwollens warehouse; coincidentally, I heard the news of London's underground terrorism on the radio there.
Tom mentioned Ray, so I remember meeting Mr Ray Hamilton at W. Bill's basement warehouse. I wonder how he has been, too.
The video contains a lot of exciting information, but I particularly enjoyed the comparison of Fresco and Fimmresco.
The funniest part was that Tom called Moonbeames cloth Poorman's cashmere. I once brought this cloth to a famous Italian Sartoria in Nales, they mistook it for cashmere.
Thank you do much for this video. My thanks also extends to Mark Dunsfold for saving many of the former companies that supplied great cloth and incorporating into his own company.
I have always maintained that there are four smells that remain with you throughout your life : the smell of a fine cigar , that of a beautiful lady, fine leather and finally wonderfully woven cloth whether it is worsted or tweed.
Wishing you and the staff at Redmaynes very best wishes for the future.
Thank you Sir. What a lovely comment. We'll pass this in to the Harrisons team. My very best, Tom.
Incredible wealth of knowledge.
It was fantastic to be amongst so many wonderful cloths and hear about the cloth from Mr Dunsford directly - We were so grateful for his time.
I watched it all..........very good Tom.
Thank you!
Great video
Harrison Spring Ram. The real game. Make it sell. Mark Dunsford and Yourself and all around you,,,,, keep on,,,,, noble causes ,,,, the finest of dying workmanships
I see us now in a different light - wearing not just suits, but suits of armour on our noble cause :)
Thanks for watching!
Wonderful tour of some of the best cloth around !
I must admit it was a good day out Sir. There is always something new to learn - even for the more experienced amongst us.
Absolutely brilliant; thank you both.
Our absolute pleasure, thank you for watching!
I could watch this over and over.
You are of course welcome to if you wished...
Thank you for your comment and for watching.
A really enjoyable video. Thank you.

Wonderful, love to hear talking both of you guys.
Thank you very much, we really appreciate you watching the video.
Thanks for a good job, Tomas!!!👍
Very kind of you to say so, so glad you enjoyed it.
An excellent, informative and extremely well edited video. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it! You're Claires best friend. Best, Tom.
Mark: go ahead, test me. ... Brilliant
Made us smile too! Thanks for watching.
Enjoyed that very much. There were certainly some eye catching lengths in the video.
Mr Mahon was sorely temped to return home with a good few lengths Sir! They were truly stunning and it was a privilege to have such a personal tour.
We're so pleased to hear that you enjoyed it and look forward to seeing you in the Spring.
Great video 👍
So pleased to hear you enjoyed it!
Good video.
So glad you enjoyed it Sir!
Hello Mr Mahon. Thank you for this video. I use Harrison's a lot. I just bought the Lessers 13oz 303 fabric. There was one tailor he stated that the quality went down. For example the Lessors cloth from the 90s, such as their 7-8oz were more durable. Under new ownership, the cloth quality is not the same. What are your thoughts on that?
Mr Mahon, thank you for this great video. With British-made fabrics, I don't have to question the quality of whatever I choose. Because Fresco is often spoken in this video, I hope you'll consider a visit to Hfw one day. Royal tweed Alsport, HMs Fresco and Flannel with Royal Warranty..
Good idea! Thank you for watching. Best, Tom.
I found the Solaro cloth and the fact it is hard to sell really interesting. Could you tell me what a suit length of that fabric costs please?
Around £ 600.Best, Tom
@@savilerowtales Thanks very much Tom 👍
How much would a sport jacket made with Andrew Carnegie cloth cost? 100% cashmere sounds like what I’m looking for.
An Acclaim sports coat would be £2.5-2.6K. Best, Tom.
You should tailor a garment for your wife in this Carnegie cashmere
Claire is now your best friend. Best, Tom.
So please distribute your clothes to Indian market... India is huge market
Thank you for watching our video. We do have the Remote suit service, this is available to everyone across the world and isn't dependant on us visiting any country or you being able to visit us. We would be delighted to assist you or any other gentleman who wishes to utilise Redmaynes services.
@@savilerowtales actually I said to Scottish fabrics manufacturers Harrison of Edinburgh... You have mistaken
Our apologies for the confusion. Perhaps it would be best to reach out to Harrisons directly if you would like to use their fabrics in India. I'm sure they'd be happy to assist you.@@shukra333
@@savilerowtales I have reached to Harrison, but properly they are not interested in India🇮🇳...
Holland and sherry & dormeuil are in India.... Great fabrics...
Make video of dormeuil & Holland
Fascinating ..and for me a touch nostalgic. When I joined my late fathers retail clothing business established in 1971 (it was originally a very small shop selling a somewhat strange mix of quality workwear and formal clothing from brands such as Lybro, Bladen, Daks, Gannex, Christy Hats, Barbour , Magee, Viyella etc) in the early eighties there were many LBD pattern bunches scattered about the place…i’m not from a tailoring background myself but my dad had a few made to measure customers who ordered mainly trousers from LBD…including one guy who ordered two pair every year in exactly the same colour/cloth for over thirty years. Our shop moved away from formal suiting and is now closed but I wondered if LBD still existed and now I know. Thanks for this.
