I have silicone babies of different types, Dragan skin, eco flex, and the snuggle skin, full silicone, 3/4 limbs ,cloth body with different limbs, live cast hands and feet. Silicone requires care, but after many years of enjoyment, I don't find them to be a problem, I play with mind quite a bit and enjoy them, when work load is busy they just lay in their cribs, the biggest problem I see is in mailing, if one is going to be damaged, it is probably in shipping and you as a buyer should check them out closely and not be afraid to check them out. That is were my problems seemed to be, if caring for them like a newborn, powder them occasionally they do fine. Now if using pacifier's or modified pacifier lip paint does wear down, just taking a little lip 💋 brush and some blush does wonders, so unless you plan on selling your babies, enjoy them that's why you spent all that money, and why you bought them. Buying baby furniture, clothing and accessories is fun, it is a expensive hobby, you have to decide when enough is enough. Treat your silicone babies, like a newborn. And Ladies enjoy your babies .
This makes me very glad that I learned about the reborn community through having Bastian who is a “baby Yoda” silicone head and hands with a cloth body and he is weighted to 5 lbs to help me. He also has a pacifier magnet. I am Autistic and have C-PTSD and I can’t use a weighted blanket because I feel trapped under them and someone suggested this to me because they had a friend making the Yoda dolls. Being a big nerd that I am , I was in! He cost me $75 and he has been an amazing blessing to me. Holding him against my chest keeps me calm. If I am having very bad anxiety I can just pick him up and rock a little and I can breath again! A year later I added Lyra to our bunch as she was a gift from Bastian’s maker (we call her their foster mama) she isn’t weighted but her body is made from Starry Starry Night cloth and that is a huge thing to my heart. Van Gogh has been my favorite artist since I could distinguish artists lol. So she is a very special little girl and I do love dressing her up in little dresses! I could never own a silicon doll. They are beautiful and amazing. But I am rough on my babies. Not on purpose, it just happens as a result of being around me 😂. Luckily my babies are very well made for what I need because gentle I am not. I don’t understand why people think that these silicone babies are a good choice when they have never had one before. They are beautiful but need so much care! Nathan is so gorgeous!
I am in love with my partial silicone baby. He helps my anxiety, and I've co-slept with him which was wonderful, I'm a childhood sa survivor, and sometimes I wake up due to ptsd like memories coming back, which leads to nights of no sleep. I just love that my little one helps me with my anxiety, depression and chronic pain. People need to love their babies, unless you intend to resell, treat your baby like a baby, if you want them to stay 100% perfect which some collectors do then just set them up in a crib or bassinet with full white bedding and don't change them unless they need to be carefully dusted. My partial isn't painted but is already in the darker skin like my significant other, and needs just some blushing and little bit of life. Nothing too much. It depends on how you want to love your silicone.
Hi Misty, Bountiful baby has silicone kits now. Not full bodied but a good start for anyone interested in a less expensive chance to own one. I personally will stick with Vinyl as it's less to worry about. Nathan is precious and I especially love his hair.
Please when you repair your baby teach us how you do. As a silicone owner, I'd LOVE to make minor touch ups on lips especially❤ I want mine to last but sending her away over and over is nerve wracking
The only reason I won't get one is because I've read that silicone goes bad after 8 to 10yrs. One woman spent $800 on a reborn and after 7 years, the silicone apparently got darkened and spotted.. When I read about silicone, it says it has a shelf life of 10yrs. So I just don't want to spend the money if the silicone can barely last 10yrs..
This isn’t true. Silicone (if made with proper quality materials) can last a really long time. My oldest silicone is about 15 years old and still as beautiful as back then and some of my more expensive ones are coming on 10 years soon and look brand new.
Nathan is a beautiful baby. I don’t think I would ever own a silicone baby mostly because of the cost but they are adorable. I would want to cuddle that baby all of the time. Thank you for sharing the info about silicone dolls. 💜🙏🏻
I'm so glad you touched on this subject. I have a Vinyl but not a silicone...yet. lol I always wondered how long before repair and such on a silicone as they seem a bit more fragile. But I am new to collecting so I am glad I found your channel!!! 💓
I have vinyl and I would not change her for the world.i bonded with her when I spotted her at the thrift store.$1.99.i fell in love with her small self🌹❤️😍
Hello Misty. I enjoyed seeing Nathan . He is a beautiful baby. He looks soooo cuddly. You always dress him so cute. Cannot wait to your other silicone baby girl when she comes. I love your videos. Have a wonderful day. Hugs.😍
I just love cali in natural tone ❤❤❤❤ i hav Tasha E’s Tristan and love his scowls. 😂😂😂😂 you’re absolutely right on all points and I cannot wait to get more. I have 122 dolls all together in my collection. Sdhgaret sils partial mostly vinyls and masterpiece dolls. So yes. I get it 😂😂😂 live how he’s painted , Baltic artists make cute babies. Babyclon too. Love their hybrid options
Is Nathan the calimero sculpt by Baltic Babies? I know he’s by Ina Volprich but is the company Baltic Babies that poured and sold him? I think because the prices on reborns have jumped up to over 1000.00 is why people think silicones are cheaper than vinyl. I just don’t understand why vinyl reborns are over a thousand dollars! I’m a reborn artist and have been for years and never charged more than 350.00!
Thanks for all this honest information. I’m now waiting for a partial silicone reborn by Maria Lynn to arrive and this is my 1st silicone purchase and she is over $2K.
Hi! I just stumbled upon your channel that I found on my feed. Your little one is darling! ❤ I’ve been collecting high-end FBS babies for over 10 years. Most of the things you say are true, but I do have silicone babies that are 10+ years old and still look pristine. It all depends on how much a collector handles their dolls. As far as silicone goes, what’s most important to me is the matting process. Correctly matting a silicone baby is an art in, and of, itself. Many established artists still haven’t gotten the knack of properly matting silicone. Ideally, a properly matted baby should not need powdering. I have and had dolls from Joanna K, Ella McK, Romie Strydom, Claire Taylor, Jennie Lee, Alejandra DeZuñiga, Julie Molloy, Andrea Arcello to name a few. While these artists are tops in their field, in my opinion, the best silicone artist is Claire Taylor. I now have two of her edition dolls, but I’ve had many more in the past. She has been a pioneer in developing her own blend of Platinum-cured silicone that is durable and feels and acts just like skin. I have never had the need to powder any of the dolls I’ve had created by her. Her painting has never faded, her rooting is deep and the hair doesn’t fall out. Her painting doesn’t seem peel. And her dolls actually keep their value and can even increase with time. I’ve had offers for my Claire Taylor dolls well over what I paid for them. This I why her babies are in such demand. She is the best in the art of making her own silicone blend, painting, rooting and matting, IMHO. And, of course, NEVER bathe a silicone baby. The water can lift the matting and compromise the paint, causing peeling. I speak from experience. When I first started to collect 10+ years ago, I bathed the first one I had gotten. The paint began to peel. I had her repaired twice by the artist who then told me never to bathe a silicone doll. I still have her. She was my first, but I don’t handle her since another repair can’t be done on her. Lesson learned. I also do not use a drink and wet system. Mold can grow inside the tube. So, I will not risk that happening to my babies. The vinyl dolls whose feel come the closest to the feel of silicone is the LDC (Little Dreams Collection) line of vinyl dolls from Germany. I’ve had two of their dolls, and they are very soft. A softening polymer is added to the vinyl to make it feel softer. I have had issues with one beautiful vinyl doll I had; it was Esme by Laura Lee Eagles. I don’t remember who reborned her. It was at the beginning of my doll collecting. She began to leach oil. While silicone is water based, vinyl is oils based. Apparently, the reborn artist didn’t seal her correctly. The oil was all over the doll and my hands. Unfortunately, I had to discard her. Another lesson learned. So, there can be issues with vinyl reborns as well, if they aren’t properly sealed. There’s always something new to learn about both silicone and vinyl dolls, and, although I’ve been collecting for a while, and have had the privilege of owning some amazing babies, I’m still learning, and I learn something new everyday. Thank you for your lovely video. I have now subscribed. 😊
Please please please do a video on this on your channel and you can tag me so I can send ppl your way, this is AMAZING information!!!! Thank you so much for all of this! 💗💗💗💗
i wonder why some silicones peel more than others, if it's the type of pigment used or the silicone it was poured in. i have 3 silicones. 2 of them are older (2005/2008) and neither has peeling. My newest was just made this year, so obviously right now no peeling. I have to say i very rarely wash my hands before handling them! Never knew oils from my hands could break down silicone. i do use mittens on their hands when changing clothes. as for powdering i think how much you need to powder depends on how well they were matted to begin with. My 2008 silicone seems to need powdering a lot more than my other 2. so far my newest has not needed any powdering, but again she's only 2 months old.
Thanks for explaining this info about silicone......I have 2 partial silicone dolls and. 3 full body silicone babies. One of those is also a CALIMARO SCULT BOY. I Paid over $2400 for him.brand new! I was going to sell him BUT as you said....you won't get near what they cost on the secondary market! So I think I will keep him since I'd lose a large amount of money. People don't understand or don't appreciate the value of silicone dolls. Mine has brown hair....yours is adorable!
Thank you for another wonderful and informational video! I have loved my vinyl dolls so much that I had been considering a silicone, but I think I might hold off for a while. Both because of cost and because the fun for me in a reborn baby is dressing it in all sorts of outfits and taking photos. It seems like with the silicone I would get less of that, or would constantly worry about the maintenance. But maybe someday! ❤
He is darling 💙 I always enjoy seeing Nathan. I'm fairly sure I'll never have a silicone, partial or full body. I know I would truly enjoy the feel of them. But they are just way to expensive for me.
No offense, he's beautiful and all, but silicone babies are too rich for my pocket...not to mention how cautious you gotta be with them. Give me vinyl any day.
End of June I will have my own Calimero full silicone baby doll. They are still in the proces of making him. I will name him Thijs. He will have blond hair. By now I am trying to learn as much as I can about taking care of him. This video was very helpful. And I love the fact that he 'stars' in this video.
I was very lucky I feel like because I have had several reborns that I bought 6 or 7 years ago by a wonderful artist in Florida. She no longer paints and sells dolls anymore because her husband got sick and she wanted to spend her time with him. She charged a fair price for her dolls and I feel like she could have got more because she was wonderful. She hand rooted her babies hair and did such a great job. I feel blessed to have been able to get a few of her dolls before she quit. Being a adult collector and getting them at such a great price I feel like with the quality of some of the dolls I see today I could easily get what I paid or more. The dolls I see today and I am talking about vinyl dolls there is no rooting of hair it seems to be mostly painted and to me some of them do not look really good and people are asking over $700 for these dolls. I hope you know I am not talking about you at all I love your babies and your babies look really nice and your prices are good but I am sure you know what I mean since you are a artist. I had got away from doll collecting because of several bad life events but a few months back I started looking at reborns and I was shocked at the prices of these dolls now. I guess I will just be shopping for clothes for my babies then shopping for more babies so yes I feel very lucky I have some really nice reborns and I may in the future if I see one who speaks to my heart at a good price I may add another. Love your silicone baby.
Yessssss, the demand for them has gone sky high thanks to social media and so have the prices! I think the more experienced artists have always been able to charge this much for their work, but there are brand new artists trying to change 700+ Also since the pandemic started, it has been harder in the last two years to get ahold of our products and when we do find them it’s expensive. Back in the day to make a beautiful reborn cost $150 in expenses to create, now it’s twice that just for supplies. Then 50-100 hrs of time to paint and fully root…..that’s when you see $600 + on the price. I just paid $100 for a very small amount of mohair that would only cover one newborn sized doll. It’s frustrating…things were very different back in the day. You did get very lucky indeed! 💗
@@KitstoKradlesNursery I agree 100%. Everything has gone up and keeps going up. That is why if I do decide to purchase another baby I will shop around and make sure I get one that is worth the price. Your babies are very nice and I would love in the future to have one.
I will never get a silicone baby. I love to dress my baby every day and with silicone babies you can't really do that. Also, I'm on disability so if I get a $2-3,000 silicone and I rip the silicone I would have a breakdown. I just admire them from afar.

Wow so cute😍 first time seeing this one.wer you buy.

Thanks soo much for sharing

I'm getting a palm one in 2 weeks, this info has been helpful as he will be my first one
I’m so glad!!!! Congratulations 🎉
I am sticking to reborns.
Btw your baby is so beautiful ❤️
I don't the faces of the silicone babies look as realistic as the vinyl reborns do...
I agree, silicone is very different to paint.
I wanted one since I was 7, im 13 now finally got one!!!
Aw 🥰 so cute 🥰 I want this 🥺
I will never get a silicone baby. I love to dress my baby every day and with silicone babies you can't really do that. Also, I'm on disability so if I get a $2-3,000 silicone and I rip the silicone I would have a breakdown. I just admire them from afar.
I totally hear that!
I am getting one for 700 dollars but he is not new he is in good shape
How much. ❤️

Is he a silicon baby

I just got a silicone baby
