If you'll be switching at low frequencies, larger diameter wires like 18 Ga to 20 Ga can work. If you are switching at high frequencies, TIW or LITZ wire is recommended as these contain many small gauge wires that are each insulated from one another. The higher the switching frequency, the more the 'skin' effect becomes a concern. Too thick wires at higher frequencies will result in inefficient current handling as more and more of the current is carried at the wire surface (hence the skin effect) rather than through the centre of the wire. It is from the formula N/E = (10^8)/(4.44*CA*f*Bmax) You will get 6 or 7.5 or 9, this depends on Bmax value. Usually at 7.5, Bmax=60,000Guass. The lower Bmax is the high constant is... What will this effect the transformer??? The high constant number is, the more turn/volt is and the transformer will be hotter at lower turns/volt.
