I was a produce manager for six years and literary threw away hundreds of pounds a day of “not perfect” fruit & veggies. I started selling boxes of not shelf worthy (in the companies eyes) to a horse farmer for their animals and I was reprimanded for this. I was still charging something instead of paying by the pound to throw away, it crushed me after so long and I could do nothing about it. I had to quit my well paying manager job because I couldn’t live with myself any longer.
That's sad. I had a friend who was a waitress at a casino buffet and at the end of the night the staff (many of whom didn't get a single break all day) would eat the leftovers, but then management came in and told them that was theft and they had to throw it all in the garbage. As for your grocery store story, France has made it illegal for stores to throw away food that approaches best before dates, they have to donate it all to food banks or other charities!
This is brilliant. Why cant the government do this? Why haven't churches done this. This is how you feed everybody. In fact this kind of initiative is how to house everybody. Good work.
In 2015 France became the first country to ban edible food waste from supermarkets, which forced stores to donate food to charities- so there's hope laws like this will spread!
This would be amazing if every state had this kind of program with the different restaurants and catering business all over to help feed the homeless and others in need of just a breakfast, lunch or dinner. Lots of family's depend on pantries and open shelters that offer free meals. This could help so many people.
This is very kind.I have always wanted to help in communities.I got my chance to do so in my last job working for americorps. When people are struggling they really appreciate it so much.May God bless you and your team.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽. Great job Tall Tony. Not too many people can say this. But Tony YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!! I can only imagine there is more food offerings then one man can handle do you have tall Tony helpers ? Sending love 💕
God Bless You. This is a great idea. I'm an Audio Visual Technician; so, I provide technical assistance for meetings all the time and would cringe when I saw all the food thrown away after meetings. Years ago working in NYC Hotels I would take the food and give it to homeless people.
That is a super great idea. In fact i watch dumpster divers here in the U.S. we throw away so Much Food ! So much that if i had a team of dumper divers and friends at the end cooking it up. Literally you could run a shelter with all that waste. Some stores purge stuff every other day. I dont understand why it doesn't get donated. I am glad to see someone covering the restaurant side of food waste also IMMENSE waste. Your saving people , food and the earth. Blessed be ! Namaste
I managed restaurants for 11 years and we always donated all leftover food. Depending on what it was, it either went to the local soup kitchen or to local farmers. Any time we can donate instead of throwing away, is great!
It is truly shameful the food that we waste. Nice to see someone putting it to use. Someone that is starving could care less what it is for the most part. I really hope this takes off and is copied all over. Wonderful.
@@isaacgriffin5690 its not just going to Muslims. I used to live in Toronto and recognize a couple of the shelters he was speaking in front of. One was a Christian shelter and one was a shelter for recovering alcoholics.
To the people who dislikes this: I'm not judging, I'm disappointed in you. To the people in the kitchens that are giving the food to him: Did you check for any weird stuff in your food, like hair or anything?
A homeless person who eats only gluten free food that's laughable I've been homeless I know when your hungry enough you'll eat anything homelessness continues to rise because they have it to good
