You come across as a true musician blessed with great insight, so I appreciate your insight into breaking down what makes a good guitar. Looking forward to the next episode.
I could listen to you play a broom with a couple of banjo strings on it and be happy. When you make beautiful music, it hardly matters what you are playing, it comes from the soul.
I love that you talk about the maturation of acoustic guitars, I own a Yamaha that is over 30yrs old. Yes, when I first bought it the sounds was good but now just no comparison. I have friends who ask me to sell it all the time, nope. Love the channel Jonathon, another great review!
As far as I gathered, James Taylor uses or has used a combination of L.R. Baggs LB6 pickup and Radial PZ-Pre preamp. I'm still hunting for a decently priced quality e-acoustic. Hopefully you will have time to make a video about what acoustic guitars and pickup systems you like. All the best and thanks!
I was taken back Jonathan for the opening piece on this lovely guitar you played. Good news, they are producing these left handed, Hooray!! I don't have a mahogany acoustic guitar and I've put it on my shortlist, along with a P90 HB tele style guitar, which has had great reviews. You are so right about playing in an acoustic. I think I've mentioned before you can buy a special machine that you place on the top of the strings for it to vibrate the guitar - I've no idea if it's any good, I've also heard if you place the guitar near a speaker playing music to the degree it vibrates, this too helps the sound develop quicker than playing it in. Anyway I differ to agree about the sound of this guitar, when miced up it sounds so sweet. Maybe from a player perspective it sounds completely different? Thank you again Jonathan for devoting your time to demo this guitars for us.
Hi Jonathan !.. I like all in this guitar !.. 😁 Thanks for providing these videos : I like the way you play, the melodies and sounds are beautifull : Goood work !.. 👍 💖 🕊 ... and little message to Thomann : keep on the good stuff, you rock !.. 💪
Replaced the tone shaping capacitors in my CST 24 deluxe and my TB40 BK came with •047 replaced with •022 what a difference now the pickups have that sweet singing tone. In my TTH fusion pro replace the bridge pickup with with Seymour Duncan JB sh4 put the Roswell bridge pickup in the neck position and replaced the •022 cap. with a •015 capacitor. Now it sounds like a real pro.
Thank you for demonstrating this solid wood guitar. I always thought James Taylor has the perfect acoustic sound. I think this is a great looking guitar. I have a couple mahogany guitars and they do sound very mellow compared to spruce tops. Great demo. Seems like a good guitar. And your right I'm sure it needs broken in.
Thanks for this Jonathon. Great as usual! Upon first listen I thought it was a bit muffled, as in not breathing at all. I bet it sounds great in 5+ years. It is definitely a looker. Being a James fan lol...LR Baggs LB-6, and Fishman Aura Spectrum DI Pre. This is the Olson guitars.
I agree with you about the pickups. It's not just Fishman in my opinion either. They all seem to be that way as far as my experiences have been. Some are certainly better than others but none are equal to mics. I love the phrasing you used about there being a film over the sound. I was trying to describe it too but hadn't thought about it that way. Very well said. Now if you dont mind. I have a request. I Love your playing because it clearly comes from love and from your soul. I love the song Just as I am. If you could do a video where you play tha song on an accoustic guitar I would love it. Keep playing keep making videos. Be safe and may God bless and keep you.
Hi Jonathan. I have been watching you on TH-cam for quite sometimes now and I always enjoy your playing enormously. I really love your playing and believe you can even make a broomstick sound musical. So this is no exception and no surprise. Mahogany. Does have is own voicing so it will never sound like a cedar or sitka spruce topped instrument. Is that bad? Well no of course not for some songs it can be preferable to have a more rounded and less prominent top end. Like every guitar it will open up more with age, almost human?😉. The fishman doesn't do this guitar justice I agree. Nonetheless a beautiful guitar though. Keep up the good work. You have my respect as a musician and as a person. Yes I have also watched you more personal videos and though I am not religious I admire the courage to share your personal experiences and conviction. Stay well and safe.
These Harley Bentons are getting better and better Jon. I think I'm going to follow through and get the Takamine GN75CE WR. Mostly because it seems to be the most "bang for the buck".

Mr. Jonathan, do you ever have anyone sing over your beautiful guitar arrangements? I would love to write some lyrics for your songs, one day. So mellow. I love hearing you play. Every tune is so pretty and played so well. You're probably getting tired of me telling you how much I love you, dude, but I really do. I'm trying to hook my cousin up with a guitar that isn't to expensive that looks and sounds like "Trigger"The Martin guitar that Willie Nelson plays with nylon strings. If you have any ideas at all I would love to hear any suggestions thank you for what you do. God bless always.
Hi Jonathan, Another great review, thank you! So what I found quite interesting that your impression is that the CLD 41 sounded better than this model which actually has solid wood back and sides vs ply with walnut veneer of the CLD 41. Makes me wonder how much of a difference in tone there would be with solid walnut back and sides. I'm sure that there would keen consumer interest in a solid wood version of the CLD 41 with solid walnut back and sides (hint, hint Thomann).
Another so sweet piece of music you offered us, thanks for your creation. About that guitar I do prefer the CLD41 tones. I'm convinced a high gloss finish limits the vibration. It looks this beautiful guitar is intended to take the stage, while CLD41 may be more for studio recordings. Anyway , at that price it's another bargain by Harley Benton.I used to have a Yamaha LS6 ( I gave to my daughter), twice the price of CLD41, but sounds very good with perfect finish flawless, came with serious soft gigbag, I regret it.
I always look forward to every new video you post. Now that you've added a blessing of Jesus peace, I like you even more. That was cool. Blessings to you also in Jesus Name. May His countenance be upon you and grant you peace. 🙏🏻
Hi Jonathan, Excellent review! Do you have plans to review the Harley Benton CLG-650SM-CE VS SolidWood? Would love to hear your thoughts on this guitar.
Hello Jonathan. I loved the sound and look of this guitar. It sounded like there may be an issue with the nut when you play the 1st string open. Some sort of high pitched harmonic. It could probably be easily eliminated with a little filing. Otherwise lovely guitar all around.
