Someone should probably mention that all farmland isnt owned by farmers. Englands 20 dukes alone own about a million acres.
The budget needs to go just like Truss budget
When did the farmers care about people in industry being made redundant, people on zero hours contracts and working in the care sector on low pay. They expect us to make up for the tax shortfall when they voted for Brexit.
The farmers voted for Brexit and overwhelmingly support the Tories. This is political / ideological for Starmer and is payback. City centric Labour MPs don't have a clue about the countryside.
Tax the poor. Boost the Rich. The new mantra of the Labour Party.
Why would damaging business's ability to flurish and prosper while scooping up there assets in the process be the most economicly viable approach? Seems as if theres another agender than saving a few quid at the detrement of countless lives, the same thing is happening all over the west.
I dont think the consumer would actually mind paying a few extra quid for a potato. Why aren't farms profitable ??
Because food retailing is. Easy!
At last someone who has highlighted the potentially serious issue for tenant farmers who will lose their homes and land even though they have very little capital invested in the land.
These farmers are working people why should they pay for labours tax raise, ever since they came into government they seem to target the vulnerable. Increase productivity back to pre covid levels will fix the finances not by killing our precious farms and uk food security.
Seriously well done to The Telegraph for producing this piece, really good to see.
Stuck Farmer.
What a cunning stunt
This is a stupid, vindictive policy, reaping petty funds for the exchequer, similarly scrapping the wfa and taxing education is thoughtless.
Farmers need to increase the cost of their food. If they do so, everyone in the country will come to share their sentiment to get food costs to come down.
It will happen anyway to pay this tax. That’s economics.
In Brazil agribusiness is all about big farmers (farmers are employees of big companies), that said, there is NO family farms. I would be sad if UK became like Brazil.
6:00 she makes a good point about what mistakes are ... here here 👍
If they dont like the inheritance tax we can find millions of people living in poverty all over country in those cities to become farmers. why should farmer monopolies be protected. Why should farmers be protected from the rules everyone else has to live by. People have starved to dwsth in rhis country, so obviously the system isn't working for them.
Will farmland prices fall as it can be used for farming rather than IHT planning? This will reduce impact
Starmer has to go
Stop giving so much of tax payers money to foreign aid to support services not our farmers. Britain first 😢
A real lack of the actual protest in this 'inside the protest' piece.
Yep, it's just the media trying to points score.
The grass in the background refused to grow during the interview. Obviously it was too busy showing solidarity with farmland 😮
Old Mac Donald had a farm and on the farm he used to have.. Cows.. Sheep.. Pigs.. Chickens.. Ducks.. Turkeys.. Now he has Solar Panels.. Wind Turbines.. Many Many farms are are now making a living out of the great rip off which is wind and solar panels owned by foreign companys. Who get grants form the UK Goverment.. 🤔
Rolling out the conservatives to comment makes me laugh. 14 years of their rule where they could have made a really big difference but just sat on their hands on so many issues. Then our political system allowed Labour to get in. We need Reform these parties have proved how useless they are.
Why not put each farm into a family corporation, which doesn't die. The leadership of the corporation can change without involvement of inheritance tax.
Because that has to skip a generation
It's not quite that simple of the billionaires wouldn't be complaining about the IHT change so much..
👍
Biggest harm was self inflicted by voting for Brexit. But farmers won’t say a word, that they have been wrong, that they struggle now. So anything that, even silly inheritance tax on millionaires will trigger outrage. But it has little to do with that, and everything how hard it is now. No unicorns, no sunlit uplands. But sheesh quiet.
So that woman with 150 acres and 200 cattle is not affected by inheritance tax !!
But somehow they’re outraged…..I wonder who sold them this outrage
I wonder if Starmer thought it was cold when he flew back into the UK and wonder if he gave the slightest thought for those desperately cold Pensioners, who's WFA he took away.
Try turning your heating of Mr Starmer and see if you feel cold and have the heating in Parliament during Questions Time, to see how many of you complain how cold it is.
18 billion and counting
What’s wrong with fair and equal tax across the board? Surely teachers, scientists etc are as essential as farmers?
😆
Not many teachers/scientists working for less than the minimum wage ? I’ve worked a small family, livestock farm for 45 yrs. The potential IT bill would be more than I’ve drawn as a wage for the last 20yrs !
Just looking through comments one would expect farmers to be simple folk but the woke lefty commentators should have had a solid education before going to their second_rate Universities and leaving with dogma instead of critical thinking and reasoning. I voted Labour at the last election because the Tories needed punishing and because my local MP is excellent. Most of my friends are Labour and are good caring people but we have been let down by political robots. Either they have received bad advice from Government departments, or they think they know better.
The rich, like Clarkson who bought farmland to avoid tax, have driven up prices. With this move the price will reduce and fall below the inheritance threshold. That will make farming and getting into farming affordable. This is really good for farmers, their land will no longer be used as a financial instrument.
Dirt money food time space.
Try it stymer.
