Thanks for this. The 90's was the decade when I vacationed there the most, like once or twice a year. It was a good time then. Prices were starting to go up but not ridiculous, and you would still feel pretty safe walking around on the strip. Some new casinos were going up, but the older ones were mostly still there. Good memories.
I was in Vegas 6 years before this video back in Nov 21 1987 My Uncle took us to Cesars Palace I sure miss that old turquoise blue building dont care much for the new look . A few months earlier my Uncle went for the first time and stayed at the Sands hotel. Looking back at Vegas then versus now its crazy how much bigger it has become . Thanks a lot for posting this memorable look of Las Vegas!
Amazing video!! Stayed in Vegas during Xmas / NYE 1996-97...I remember coming back from a very rainy LA Jan. 3 1997 (Slight haze over Vegas strip as I was driving north on I-15...pitch black like 1:15 , seeing the lights from 15-20 miles away still) Turned out the haze was from the fireworks, grand opening of New York New York. Looks so incredibly different today and sadly I don't think in a good way...too congested now, no open space anywhere. I always loved the old main entrance to Caesar's Palace.
I miss the old casinos and cheap buffets. The lion at the MGM was torn down because a lot of Asians were superstitious about entering a building through the lion’s mouth due to bad luck.

Yes, other than the Dunes and it’s sign as far as I know. Between 1993 and 2016, 14 different hotels have been demolished to make bigger places or space for certain areas.
Not gonna lie i gotta get used to seeing Las Vegas in the 90s, I am not born in the 90s and I just moved to Las Vegas in June so I really gotta get used to it
It's good to be interested in what your city looked like beforehand, there's plenty of content if u wanna look that up. Not even just 1993, I think the entire decade is available to YT
interesting 💯...glad u enjoyed too I was born 7 years after this video was recorded Personally wish I could have at least saw this era of Vegas in person but there's a chance I might go this year
@@CycloneCordVHS i actually was able to visit Vegas in 1996 or 97 I was around 5, was with my mother and her best friend. I have some brief memories of visiting, my mother took a pic of me in front of the golden nugget and I still have it lol! Yes the 90s era of Vegas was the best really like your video!
@@nessb4474 if time travel existed, I'd go back to that era with that Hi8 camcorder and make much more tape than what's seen here This video's the closest thing we have to that. I have another Vegas video on my channel taken by a different individual th-cam.com/video/UNmdQG4_4Uc/w-d-xo.html but the Vegas content starts at 2:47:11 over there.....be warned, that one's lengthy and from about the same era as this clip
Brilliant , by far my favorite times in Vegas thank you for sharing ..I remember when I was booking The Sands and she told me they be closing by the. 👍👍👍
How am I seeing this a year late? This has everything -- steady hand on the camera, a date, good sound, an unfinished lion head, farewell message at the dunes.
0:51-1:13: OMG!!! It's Gold Strike & Nevada Landing of Jean Nevada!!! GOD I MISSED JEAN NEVADA (which I nicknamed, "The Oasis" on the way to Las Vegas) And Treasure Island back then REALLY based on the Stevenson's Treasure Island Story of Pirates theme!!! How I missed the old Las Vegas... Modern Las Vegas isn't the same, especially after they got rid of Tropicana
Luxor had just opened on 10/15/93, I was there with some pals for opening weekend. Everything was FUBAR - fire alarms randomly going off in the middle of the night, inclinators not working properly, landscaping not finished, etc. Cabbie told us on the way out of town that he picked up a couple who got to their room and there was a hole in the bathroom floor where the toiled belonged. Whoops!
0:55 Not sure if you've seen pictures of what that place looks like now, but oh my God it's sickeningly awful. The hotel is SERIOUSLY vandalized, and I don't even want to know what the casino floor is like.
Agreed, especially them "Resort Fees" & Miscellaneous Fees added to the regular price per night at their hotels... Modern Vegas have a lot of ripoff deals here & there...
Great footage of a time and place now sadly gone forever.
Thank you.
Great video. No goofy music - just the sound of the traffic.
You spoke a fact!! 💯

Hard to believe this was 30 years ago. The era of the camcorder!
90s were an awesome time, even better in Vegas
My brother and I drove to Vegas in 92 brings back a lot of memories
Wow those night shots of Primm are amazing. It's unbelievable how much life used to be in that place.
And Jean. Nevada Landing and Gold Strike were awesome back then. Only thing out there now are gas stations.

Hey, exactly 30 years ago. How time flies.
Got that right 💯

Too much nostalgia especially primm and Nevada freakin landing 😵💫
I love the end, just before the Stratosphere tower went up....they should have stopped tinkering with the strip then
You even got footage of Nevada Landing. Thanks for uploading!
Amazing, amazing find!
facts my guy!!

What a cool video...all the lights and hotels from the past. Thanks for sharing this.
Brilliant video!!!
3:17 The Dunes entering its final week of being alive
Dang... what a sweet video.. right b4 MGM opened..
I miss the old casinos and cheap buffets. The lion at the MGM was torn down because a lot of Asians were superstitious about entering a building through the lion’s mouth due to bad luck.
6 days late I watched the Dunes get imploded in person. Our very first implosion here.

Whats the capture method?
Roxio Video Capture 3 for Mac. The raw cut was 10 minutes but since most shots were too long, I edited it down to what u see here using Final Cut.

True
I don't go to Vegas anymore because I know it's not what it used to be...it's now nothing but a waste of money.
