    What a great mechanic! Love the way he explains how to do the job. And, love how he admits he is wrong about something. I'm looking forward to watching other podcasts

    Thank you Jay. I was able to replace the alternator and belt on my girlfriends car yesterday thanks to your video. I had the most trouble getting the alternator physically out/in. I disconnected the bracket towards the rear of the engine bay holding that AC line to give me a little more wiggle room. Until I did that, was unable to squeeze it through.

    I was too lazy to run to the store to rent the tension rod kit so I jacked up my front passenger side and placed two jack stands. You can have a smaller breaker bar or socket wrench that'll fit from the bottom and then I put a big wrench on the handle connected to the tension bolt which I was able to push with my foot and shimmy the belt off. Repeated the same method to get the belt back on. Had to wrestle it a bit but it wasn't too bad. I'd recommend ordering the little plastic clip that opens to the nut holding the connector to the battery because the bottom part on mine basically fell apart.

    Would this be roughly the same for a 2007 Mazda TS2?

      Hey Rad. The thermostat housing is on the drivers side of the engine where the battery is. If you look on that side of the engine you will see a black plastic thermostat housing. Hope that helps.

      @@jaythemechanic4950 😮thanks for the reply.. I bought the parts myself & started looking around for a mechanic to just put it in..three different mechanics quoted me at $250-$375 (flat rate) when I asked for itemized list of the charges they got upset about it.. I think I’m going to do it myself 😬 🤞 wish me luck

    Is it easy to change the water pump? And do you have to remove the passenger tire to get access to it? Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you

      Just saw your question. I have two boys, and they both have this car each.
      The water pump takes a little bit of work bit not hard at all and sits under and to the left of the alternator. As stated..the bolts take a little work. The new water pump comes with a new gasket. If it doesn't, make sure you ask for one or get a better quality pump.
      Hope that helps . Oh...remove alternator to get to water pump

    Is the alternator going out on the mazda 2 a reoccurring problem?

    • @jaythemechanic4950
      @jaythemechanic4950  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure about that.... But, what I have noticed is that the cheaper the vehicle price when new, the more likely they have cheaper components. I have already replaced the cv axel, wheel bearing, and alternator on this vehicle.
