      you are so right. These fusion pieces allow us to see how different cultures and people can come together. We find distinctions in our styles of music, our races, our languages, etc, distinctions that must not divide but unite us. This is a beautiful example of this unity. Love seeing how Anoushka continues to be that ambassador of Indian classical music just like her wonderful father in bringing together East and West. Thank you Anoushka!!!

    I cannot stop marveling at how deeply talented, graceful and beautiful Anoushka is. Her serene countenance reflects the internal peace and content that her music bestows her with ! I am not saying that everything in her life is picture perfect, she must have her own battles. But there is something incredibly soothing about how she carries herself, how she speaks and how she performs. Her music is not short of a prayer !

      @@marcusandrade4988 There is that, and then there is also the fact that most the world's music isn't really that different from one another, it is only the technique, timbre, and instrumentation. Ultimately we will always arrive at similar tonalities, melodies, and scales. There are certain human universals to music that transcend race and nation, and that is why so many styles can blend effortlessly.
      Take Mongolian folk music for example, it isn't really that different from European folk music. Whilst the way in which Mongolians approach sound production would differ slightly, throat singing, smoother legato in instruments, both Europeans and Mongolians arrived at the same scale, the pentatonic scale. Both Mongolians and Europeans utilize similar instruments, fiddles. Both Mongolians and Europeans feature similar dance-like rhythms in their folk music. Because both Mongolians and Europeans are tapping into the same human musical universals, and now we have awesome Mongolian folk metal bands like, The HU. The same human universals we are tapping into when we listen to Anoushka Shankar, thus enabling us all to appreciate and acknowledge the beautiful music as human beings who know beautiful music when we hear it. That despite us all coming from vastly different races and cultures.

      Don't confuse classical music with Vedas. They have absolutely no connection. Nobody can "return" to vedas since they are just a collection of events written down, which were felt to be important by individuals.

    The natural response would be to focus almost entirely on Shankar because she is so beautiful and incredibly talented. However the film zeros in on the fingers playing the instruments, and truly captures the joy and interaction of the musicians in a way that so few concert films manage to do!

    • @anujmchitale
      @anujmchitale 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I would differ from your statement. None of us knows what the situation might have been so many centuries ago. The number of performances where more than 2 Indian classical instruments are played has never been as high as now.
      Before at the most, we would get a jugalbandi. But now it is evolving to include the whole plethora of frequencies- the percussion, string and direct air flow.
      It's today that is the peak of Indian classical music, not 1000s of years ago!

    • @AsitdyaDsr
      @AsitdyaDsr 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have a point. But in ancient India there was no modern day distractions and kichidi bollywood shit. They invented and enjoyed the classic music and instruments in purest form. Yes, we have now a revival of sort. Myself attended Zakira hussain and anusha shankar concerts recently.

      Those were Devdasis and they were used by the temple priests as prostitutes. This tradition has been banned in India. There is nothing worth glorifying in it. It is something which we should be ashamed of. No need to give it adivine colour. Secondly, this is "Indian classical music" not "Indian classical dance". You have badly mixed up the two things .

    Not the first Indian/flamenco fusion by any means, but the best I have heard. Congratulations to producer Javier Limón for bringing the album together and writing Spanish lyrics based on the texts in English which Anoushka provided.

      Ironically, I thought to myself once that it would be a cool fusion, very similar themes and history even, and then I found this concert! Lol, although I’d already been very familiar with Anoushka and Ravi by then. So maybe for some, this was their first flamenco-Indian fusion?

    I wish I had the pleasure of being at one of Anoushka Shankar’s concerts, but I did attend a concert where her father, Ravi played. I went to see George Harrison and Ravi came on first. Amazing! Loved seeing and hearing both. Ravi thought of George as a son and Anoushka called George as her uncle. So cool! Best concert I have ever been too, hands down. ✝️☮️

    Wow! Talk about music that communicates!!! Anoushka has taken sitar music to a new level. Yet, Ravi's style remains a go-to source of meditation music. His style is not replaced.

    Im a total raver/electronic music person from a young age but I was always fascinated by vocals like this and the sound of the sitar, My dad is a flamenco guitarist. Beautiful the combination of the two genres. The appreciation for the power of these performers of each other is mesmerizing. I must have listened to this entire video 100s of times. Completely calming. would love to see more of Anoushka.

    grandissima Anoushka degna di suo padre Ravi Shankar a cui assomiglia anche fisicamente. il concerto sale di tono quando la parte indiana esce maggiormente, accompagnata da ottimi musicisti, (senza nulla togliere al flamenco). complimenti bravi a tutti, standing ovation .

    Merci Anoushka Shankar, digne héritière de son regretté père.
    Très belle rencontre entre le flamenco qui tire sa descendance de l'Inde (du Rajastan exactement), j'avais vu un spectacle similaire à Avignon entre une famille gitane qui avait retrouvée sa famille en Inde et avait organisé un spectacle mixte de ces deux cultures qui ont des points communs évidents.
    Le flamenco est basé sur un rythme à 12 temps et en Inde avec des ragas à 12 ou 16 temps…

    Starting @ 33:21 , the instrument is also a very essential part of our age old '5-instruments' (yup, that's how we call it but in Nepalese) and used to be played at weddings. Tunes very similar to the one here were aimed at the bride and her family and was meant to bring up deep emotions of farewell. Hardly anyone could stay without welling up. An extremely nostalgic piece of sound for me and a skill that I have experienced slowly dying :(
