Raised Embroidery has fascinated me ever since I was a little kid in the early 70's and saw it for the first time at the Oregon State Fair in the USA. A very clever person had used raised embroidery to depict a darling farmyard complete with an apple tree with a tire rope swing, a child playing tug with a dog & stick, fences, people, tools, animals (wee little chickens and even tinier chicks!), and a woman in a dress and bonnet sitting on a stool and milking a cow! Luckily, the piece was behind thick glass; otherwise I'm sure my eager little fingers would have "explored" all of that hard work to shreds! Thank you for showing us so many pieces of your own very clever raised embroidery, Sarah! It's a cold, rainy day here, but your videos always warm & cheer me!
Sarah, I was honestly spellbound watching you “show and tell” about your stumpwork. I actually like saying raised embroidery better than the word stumpwork. Stumpwork, to me sounds like I’m outside chopping wood or stump- removing. LOL Now I also know the difference between and techniques of stumpwork and trapunto. Thank you!
I love this raised embroidery , I have never seen it before and of course I want to try it. Thank you for your lovely program I truely enjoy it all. Hugs from Canada
Dear Sarah, thank you very much for your tutorials. Raised embroidery looks very interesting so it would be a nice challenge to stitch. A big thanks for those around the world who show us their work. Please keep doing your videos.
I have recently joined a new Art and Craft Group started by a lovely lifelong resident in our village near Stratford upon Avon in Warwickshire. There is a lot of medieval history in the castles and Manor houses in and surrounding us. The lady who has organised the group has practised raised embroidery for many years and has kindly arranged for the group to visit The Stone Tower near Claverdon where there are housed some beautiful and very old examples of this beautiful stump work. I am totally intrigued and can’t wait to learn more. I’ll let you know how this adventure unfolds. Thank you for your inspirational videos
I should definitely give stumpwork a try. After seeing the assorted samples and works, I can say that I have done a fair number of them but only a thing here and there such as the wrapped bead (easy in concept but getting the needle through the last wraps is hard) or turkey work (lots of fun but can get tedious on a large area as I found on doing a cat on a brick doorstop). I have a crewel piece of a basket full of strawberries which has a nice variety of stitches; I was considering how to raise a few of the berries just for added interest. It seems the next thing I should try is a flower or butterfly since I've not done too much with wires aside from a couple small dolls and making those fingers without breaking the fabric covering the wires takes very careful work. PS I think the answer to what is or is not stumpwork is answered with the title of the giveaway book: it's raised embroidery. I think your examples of what stumpwork is not were spot on.
I'm dying to learn more stumpwork techniques and hopefully some pattern ideas etc. I'm finding that it's a hard technique to get much info on. I'm grabbing up every bit I can and planning on buying a book to help
I love the effect turkey work gives. I could sit there all day doing little trims, like you would a real garden topiary, but at some point you have to step back and say "enough!". Good point about the line between dimensional and raised embroidery. Thank you Sarah, now I'm interested in giving it more of a go
I’m so excited to try some raised embroidery. I enjoy taking cigar boxes and making them into trasero boxes. Adding “raised embroidery”,(another love) will simply be wonderful. Thank you for sharing.
I happen to be involved in my first crazy quilt and wanted to make a 3D cat. I came across your Raised Embroidery techniques and find I may give this a go. Thank you for sharing this and your wonderful designs.
This is such an informational video! A few years back there was nothing on Stumpwork on TH-cam, just a few odd videos. Now it looks like its taken off and all embroidery artists are adding stump techniques into their pieces. Nice to see the variety, thankyou for sharing! 🦋
Amazing 👏. I do enjoy watching and learning from you. You are absolutely a wonderful teacher. The raised embroidery is beautiful. I shall try this, and thank you so much for encouraging us to try something new 😊.
raised embroidery. I am loving learning all about the Stumpwork technique. Thank you for all your videos, they are full of clear techniques and patient information. I haven't done embroidery since I was quite young, so I am rediscovering the joy of it through your channel. Wishing you well ❤️
That was such an interesting video, Sarah. Your stumpwork pieces are all so beautiful. The raised embroidery book is one I used to borrow from the library regularly for inspiration in my cross stitching, and to admire all the beauty and special techniques in them. I've learned a lot from watching your videos, thank you.
Thank you for this wonderful video Sarah. I have always been a bit intimidated by this beautiful technique. Please do share more raised embroidery videos. I would love to make some of the butterflies and that little frog is adorable! I love your channel!
Your raised embroidery showcases your skill. Seeing your work is always a thrill. In November I suffered a terrible spill, with massive surgeries that I am recovering from still. 👩🦽 My healing journey will be long and uphill as I endure each hour and can take another pill. But I am not giving up, I have a strong will, and look forward to the day when I am no longer ill. So please bear with me as I try to be chill and await my first attempt at a stumpwork daffodil. ... Best wishes to you and Jonathan with your Goldwing adventures! 🏍
I have tried a lot of different types of stumpwork and raised embroidery (a lot of classical embroidery stitches raise above the flat work, like bullion knots and fancy braid stitches and any padded satin work, the list goes on). As a self-taught and absorber of knowledge from books and You-tube I am always please to see another of your videos!
I am happy to see your raised embroidery,Sarah. All of your stumpwork pieces are stunning and so beautiful. I am very intrigued stumpwork on the canvas.I would like to try stumpwork garden and I do love orange tree work. Thank you for introducing my work.

I love all your examples of raised embroidery Sarah..especially William the Conqueror! It is a technique I've never tried and now think I should perhaps watch some more of your videos to see more. Thank you for your great videos...
Although a book about raised embroidery would be lovely, I find that I learn various embroidery techniques better via videos. Seeing the stitches tends to stick in my memory better than illustrated guides in books so these videos have proven incredibly useful to me. My repertoire has increased quite a bit since I've started watching.
I loved this raised embroidery video! All the pieces were so interesting. I especially liked the dragonfly project you talked about teaching us. Thanks, Sarah!!
RAISED EMBROIDERY I love all your work that you do sarah i would love to have a go at stumpwork i do lots of sewing and embroidery but never tried this love bev

Please create some videos on the stump work techniques, particularly interested in the Turkey rug stitch and wire wrapping. Your work is simply amazing!
So many beautiful techniques and examples of raised embroidery from you and your patrons! Thank you for the book recommendations as well. I am curious to know how you make the faces and hands for your stumpwork figures. I would also love to see a raised embroidery flower tutorial in which you show us how to make wrapped wire tendrils.
Sarah, my mouth drops everytime I see your embroidery. It is amazing and lovely. I would love the opportunity to win the raised embroidery book. Thank you for sharing your creativity, experience and time.
Once again Sarah, such an interesting and inspiring video with brilliant camera work. I'd love to see a tutorial on making the raised embroidery dragonfly, butterfly and flower petal techniques. I had thought of stumpwork as 3D wired work but your video has shown a wealth of techniques to explore. Many thanks.
I would love to learn all of the techniques you’ve shared with us here. Flowers, leaves, stems and tendrils, needlelace, that adorable hedgehog, butterflies, faces and hands. Your little frog is precious! As always, thank you for the inspiration and sharing your creativity and skills. 💕

Your raised embroidery samples are stunning! I would especially love to learn your butterflies and bumblebees -- wings and turkey rug (?) bodies. I'm glad to have found your channel, well actually I guess I should give some credit to the TH-cam algorithm. Thanks for a wonderfully well-done video and for showing all the samples, including those of others.
Oh goodness me I really need to stop watching new techinques, I can see so many uses for raised embroidery I can't wait to have a play. Thanks for another super video 😻😻
I was once on a Stumpwork workshop taught by Kay Dennis, it was fascinating. I really should have another try at raised embroidery. The book looks delightful.
I’m fascinated by figures in raised embroidery. My goal this year is to do a raised embroidery figure project and an or nué project. I love that little froggy purse!!
Raised Embroidery! Hello from Portland! My friend and I are planning to learn stumpwork this year and have been looking forward to this video. We'd love to have you back to take a class from you. :)
I have made raised embroidery many times, and have enjoyed it every time. None of them are really big projects...just little fun things like different insects and flowers. I really like your gardens, and your "mad shoe." Raised embroidery is definitely challenging, but who doesn't like a challenge?!
I love raised embroidery, I am so passionate about this technique. I have been trying to find more information about how far back it goes into the 15th century, I would love to have a video about where that research is, how to find it- what resources etc. I love to know where things come from, and how things develop. Such as the amazing idea of "stumpwork" coming from either stamped work and embellishing it or making a stump to attach!
