Yes, the sticker is a shame, isn't it! Though I'm still pinching myself that I managed to find it in Alresford bookshop. Oddly, the owner did not seem to realise the connection with Mitford.

Gambling was a serious problem in the Georgian & Regency eras. Many fine estates were put in peril over some indolent peer not being able to control this vice. Her father was fortunate his family didn't abandon him, it was not unusual that a woman might return to her family versus putting up with an inopportune husband.
