- I will share my specially formulated ELectroform solution made just for small tanks. My first job out of high school was for an electroplater and I noticed that the recipes for small tanks and large tanks had the same chemicals but in different ratios. Most internet electroform recipes are just Industrial strength electroform solutions shoved into a small tank without taking tank size into consideration.
This one is specially formulated for use in small tanks like yours. Since heat superchargers the electroform process this low acid formula is also good for hot room, hot climates, summer electroforming, people using small tanks, or artists having trouble with copper oversaturation and the the dreaded glitter.

Great video thanks Jordan! If all goes to plan I'll be making this today or tomorrow. Got every thing now. Just need to work up the courage to handle the 97% sulphuric acid..it's a bit intimidating! Couldn't get a lower %
Just protect your eyes, face and body with the proper equipment add the acid slowly into the water, you' ll do fine. I can't wait to see your results 😊

oh shoot, so I made 4 litres. I thought I had dissolved the copper sulphate (it was good quality 98% copper sulphate pentahydrate). but after doing the filter at the end I noticed there was still some at the bottom of my container, prob 4 - 6 tablespoons worth. Will that dissolve on its own eventually? I mixed with 2 litres of warm water to try to dissolve faster. Gave it a good mix/ shake as I was making in a big bottle. Let it cool down over night and proceeded with the rest of the recipe. I did check and thought I got it all dissolved. I put in 720 grams total for my 4 litres. I also notice the liquid is cloudy in a way. Like I can't see what I have put in the tank as clearly as I normally would. worried I have done something wrong some how. 😊
@@electrojewelerjordan490 hard to explain what I mean by cloudy. It is blue but I can't see through it. Could email a pic if you like. All ingredients were as pure as possible. Acid was clear. Used distilled water. 😊
Thank you for your video! I have a question. Here in Canada I have trouble to find a battery acid, no one use it... can "Super Drain" liquid drain be used for that purpose? from another video someone said it is 98% of acid
Hi, thanks for watching! I have a list of possible sources in Canada, if you contact me either through my website or Etsy shop I'll be happy to share. I have a lot of customers in Canada that use battery acid and some have sourced from that list. As far as the drain cleaner, I've tried it and never had good results. The quality of acid is low and it contains chemicals that slow down metal erosion in order to make it safer for pipes. That said, if you are going for a very textured look , it may be an option.

HI, you can use copper pipe for plumbing or refrigeration. If you can't get that and use a pure copper anode you should not use chloride.

Great question! Yes, you will need to use distilled or DI water. Tap water contains minerals and metals that will accumulate in your solution and will contaminate it.

When you test PH levels, what should they be?
And so for example, if your tank acid shows low PH levels how do you lower or higher it?
I watched another video about chloride but I ant tell if you need to use chloride to lower or higher PH levels.
Hi, if you follow the recipe the pH will be correct. Most people use a pH of between 1-2 , a little higher or lower is ok. Sulphuric acid will lower the pH. The chloride is to help with the anode erosion and helps keep the tank cleaner, but in the quantity used won't change the pH.

Sulphuric yes, to lower pH and for conductivity if solution. Chloride is for anode erosion.
Which copper sulfate do you recommend? I used drain cleaner but you suggest it may have contamination. Where to I get the correct copper sulfate?
Hi, first a lot of people get good results from this type of copper sulphate. That said through personal expression and customer reports sometimes you just get a bad batch. If you are getting good results no need to change. I use copper sulphate from a chemical supplier. You can probably get from eBay or Amazon in small quantities.

Would this build up copper on an already copper-plated object? Several thousandths of an inch, even?
Yes, you can plate directly over copper, brass, bronze, nickel , silver or gold. Just make sure that the metal is super clean first.

So, 162ml of car battery acid in a 2liter batch? That seems like a lot of acid.
Hi Bill, thanks for commenting. 81ml of 37% sulphuric per liter equals almost 30 grams of sulphuric per liter. Most recipes have about double this.
