Tales Of Symphonia is still to this day, one of the best games I've played. It also gave me some real life advice (never judge anyone by looks alone, never lose the drive for self improvement, and NEVER betray your friends), has very different characters that are all memorable, one hell of a villain (honestly, Mithos is quite possibly one of the best in gaming history), and the soundtrack is honestly one of the best my ears have heard. The gameplay may not be as good as the later tales games, but it has possibly the best story. I'm really glad I still have this game on my shelf. So I can replay this awesome game anytime I want :)
- and NEVER betray your friends - Lol, poor Zelos and Kratos then - The gameplay may not be as good as the later tales games - This one without being bias is actually consistant and hard to master compard to the others, that are either too complicated or easier
I also love how the game incorperates discrimination in it and how the inhabitants of the world display realistic behavior of those who are a victim of it, a bystander, or target of it and how to actually overcome judging others on race. Such a powerful message for a somewhat old game and it's one of the reasons I love it so much ^_^
This was the one video game villain out of the majority of games I have played that I didn't want to kill in the end. I really felt sorry for the character and his final words really stuck to me. Fantastic antagonist!
"Farewell my shadow. You who stands on the edge of the path I chose not to follow. I wanted my own world, so I don't regret my choice. I would choose it all over again..." followed by Lloyd's "You could have lived with us, in our world". I feel as though this is one (of several) parts where Lloyd just doesn't get it. He doesn't seem to understand that Mithos wouldn't have accepted a world such as that. Mithos doesn't seem to be able to live in a world where he can't have control, and as an extension, his sister.
I also think Lloyd doesn't get that the racism that half-elves get wouldn't end. Lloyd doesn't have to worry about it because he is incredibly strong and human. Mithos never gets props as a half-elf who saves the world, he's just a hero.
I watched this all the way through... not knowing ANY Japanese and remembering what slight dialogue I could remember from the Gamecube version x) I REGRET NOTHING
Symphonia, and Rebirth are the two Tales games that I know that focus heavily on the central theme of discrimination between two different races. And both happen to be my favorites too! Now, if only I had a PS3 for Symphonia HD D:
Regal is so much more badass in this version. I was honestly extremely skeptic of the decision to even make this game, but if Regal's changed this much, I might just force myself to find the extra cash to shell out.
Alright, if someone would be so kind as to explain to me... why... exactly, does Yggdrasill's body become the fusion of the Judged, Fugitive, and Neglected? I mean, I understand the symbolism in the relationship to Mithos' life, but why would there be seperate physical manifestations?
I like to think of them as Homunculi he created in case he ever got killed, but realistically the answer to your question is probably just "Why not?". They're physical manifestations of "his sins". 4000 years of "sin" deserves some physical manifestations, apparently. Regal can't even compare in the "sin" pissing contest with Mithos, lol.
So would it be safe to assume that his Cruix (sp?) Crystal just morphed his body into those manifestations after the damage to his body in the previous fight?
Yggdrasill: Home... I'm going home. Genis: Mithos, listen to me, we don't have to fight Please return the Great Seed to us so that we could reunite the world Yggdrasill: Home... I'm going home Lloyd: Something's wrong, he sounds like a puppet Collete: What, wah Yggdrasill: I need to thank you for going through all the trouble to bring me back here I'm finally myself again Lloyd: Damn, so that's what this is all about Genis: Mithos, Martel is already dead Yggdrasill: That's not true, Martel is alive. Just as I live on in the Cruxis Crystal Lloyd: That's not living. That's just existing as a lifeless being Yggdrasill: What's wrong with that Lloyd: What? Yggdrasill: After all, in our bodies flow the bloods of human and elves. The bloods of those that despise us. We're better off casting aside such filth and become lifeless beings Lloyd: That's what you really want? Mithos/Yggdrasill: Of course. Watch, if you become a lifeless being, you can control your appearance and growth. Mithos: Everyone should become lifeless beings. I told you before, the only way to eliminate discrimination is for everyone to become the same race. Lloyd: What you hope for... is nothing but a dream Mithos Discrimination comes from the heart Genis: He's right Mithos, it the weakness of people's hearts that causes discrimination. Looking down upon others while placing themselves too high Sheena: You do the same thing! You look down at humans and elves treating us like cattle That's the weakness of your heart Regal: Even if people become lifeless beings. Nothing will change. Discrimination will continue. Mithos: Then where should the half-elves go? We aren't accepted anywhere We opened our hearts, but no one took us in. Where sould we live? Lloyd: You can live anywhere you like Mithos: Don't make me laugh Lloyd: I'm serious, anywhere is fine If you aren't doing anything wrong, you should just live proudly in the open Mithos: ...It's because we couldn't do that... that I...that we wanted a place of our own! Zelos: Uh-uh. Sorry, but don't act like you're the only victim here. It doesn't even come close to justifying all the things that you've done. Presea: What you've done caused meaningless suffering and death to countless people. Can you feel their pain? Raine: People can change. Even if they don't change right away. Months, years--as time passes, change is inevitable. Collete:Maybe not everything can be forgiven. But one can try to atone for one's sins. Can't you feel it in your heart? The Goddess known as conscience... Mithos: Do you think I'm going to beg for forgiveness? Ridiculous. There is no Goddess. So I will continue to pursue my ideals. If there is no place where I can live, and if I've been denied my Age of Lifeless Beings, then the only thing left for me is to build a new world on Derris-Kharlan. A world just for my sister and me! ( battle) Collete: Mithos is!... Presea: It's just like Alicia! Mithos will continue to live as long as the Cruxis Crystal exists! Mithos: And eventually...I will be taken over by the crystal. Lloyd: Mithos... Mithos: I'm tired of playing your game of good-and-evil. Hurry up and destroy the crystal. If you don't, Derris-Kharlan will continue to drift away. Lloyd: Mithos... Lloyd: Do it now! Before I, too, am no longer myself... Genis: Lloyd, help him Let him die while he's still himself! Lloyd: ...All right. Mithos :Farewell, my shadow. You, who stand at the end of the path I chose not to follow. I wanted my own world, so I don't regret my choice. I would make the same choice all over again. I will continue to choose this path! Lloyd: You you could have lived with us, in our world Damn it... Origin: The old master of the pact is no more. What does the new master of the pact ask of this sword? Lloyd: Restore the true for of our true world. (anime cutscene) Lloyd: Are we back Wh...what's going on? Sheena: What are you all doing? Origin: You wish is granted. But there is no link. Origin: Derris-Kharlan is already at the edge of the gravitational field. Not even Yggdrasill...Mithos could stop this from happening. Do you still intend to try? Lloyd: Yeah. Origin: Even strengthened by your Exsphere, it is likely that your body will not withstand the forces. Are you certain of your decision? Lloyd: I said I'm doing it, so I'm doing it! It's not like we have a choice! Origin: ...Very well. Lloyd: It's not working! The mana's being deflected! Collete: the Great Seed is... already dead Lloyd; Wait! Don't go! Please, wake up! Collete: It looks like Derris-Kharlan stopped moving away. Lloyd: Yeah, but why? The Eternal Sword! Collete: Thank goodness!... Lloyd: This is my final wish. Eternal Sword... Martel: The Giant Kharlan Tree was planted here by the elves when they first came as a guardian to watch over and protect them. Frank: ...Welcome home, Colette. Collete: It's good to be home, Father. Altessa: I see, so Kratos will travel with Derris-Kharlan, wherever it may go. What are you going to do? Go back to Iselia? Raine: ...No, we're going out to visit new lands. Genis: We're going around the world to try and make it easier for half-elves to be accepted. Altessa: It sounds like you have a difficult journey ahead of you. Raine: We can return to Iselia when we're tired. Genis: We will always have a home there. Sheena: Hi everyone! I'm back! Ninja: Sheena! I'm so glad you're safe! Civilian: Congratulations, Sheena! Sheena: Don't congratulate me yet! A whole new world lies before us now We have to inform everyone about the revival of the Igaguri style Orochi: Yes. And for when Kuchinawa returns as well. Sheena: Yeah, come on everyone, let's work as hard as we can! We're gonna make the village of Mizuho into a ninja clan to be proud of! Zelos: See, look what happened! It's all because the Pope opened up his big mouth and tried to banish me and stuff. The whole world got messed up! King: Well then, Chosen One, what would you have me do? Zelos: We'll send an emissary of peace to Iselia. King: Emissary? Who do you plan to send? Zelos: How about Sheena from Mizuho? She's already involved. King: So the emissary of death becomes the emissary of peace... Zelos: I won't let you say no. Until you do something about the Church of Martel, I still have the rights of the Chosen, remember? Presea: Alicia... I'm finally myself again Time is finally starting to flow again from that night sixteen years ago. You know what? I'm twenty-eight years old now. Can you believe that? Regal: Were you...talking with Alicia? Presea: Yes... Regal: I just got back from overseeing the destruction of part of the mine. Now that that's done...we can rest assured that no new Exspheres will be excavated. Presea: That's good to hear. What are your plans now? Regal: I'm going to devote the full resources of my company to revitalization projects in order to build a new and better world. Presea: I'll help, too. I'm sure Alicia and Daddy would have wanted me to. Lloyd: Are you really going to Derris-Kharlan? Kratos : If a half-elf of Cruxis remains here, the other half-elves will have no place to live. As a surviving member of Cruxis, I must bear the responsibility for what has happened. Lloyd: I'm going to collect all the Exspheres remaining in this land. Kratos: ...And I will discard all of Cruxis' Exspheres into space. I've dragged you into this until the very end. Lloyd: It's okay... Kratos: ...It's time for me to go. Please use that sword to send us to Derris- Kharlan. Lloyd: ...Goodbye...Dad!... Kratos: ... Don't ...Don't die before I do, Lloyd... my son. Lloyd: Mom... dad left. That was okay, wasn't it? For me to let him go... it was okay, right? Dirk: ...Lloyd. You wanted to go with him, didn't you? Lloyd: No, I have my own path to follow. And Dad has his. And besides, I have a dad here already! Dirk: I see. Then I won't say any more. Lloyd: ...Mom. I'll leave Dad's sword here beside you. Well...I'm off!
It's the form he was in when he became a crystal. Of course, it's going to be his most powerful state, as it is the closest thing to back when he was truly "alive". He uses his own mana to maintain his adult form, so it goes with it that dropping the adult form frees him from that burden. Think of it like Dragonball Z, the reason why Super Saiyans don't just perpetually stay in Super Saiyan mode. It wasn't primarily because of public appeal or possible loss of control (though those were factors), but because they would eventually run out of energy while doing so. That's also why Goku and Gohan doing the exact opposite of that was considered "training" to them.

***** Childish is the suggestive lack of maturity. Oh the irony. They call you childish for liking something.

for some reason, the song that plays after the credits, on the final scene always made me cry
Genis: "Lloyd, please help him! Let him die while he's still himself!"
Lloyd: "Alright..."
cameo costumes of games that came after the original symphonia, omg I can't LOL
Well, I certainly know how to say Absolute and Double Demon Fang in Japanese now.
Because "Absoluteo!" was hard to pick up. xD
Lloyd looks pretty dope with guy's outfit :)
ikr, pretty neat :P
Can't wait for this to hit the West, got my Collector's Edition already paid off. ^^
The most epic boss of my life!!! :D
Best quote for me was, "Don't die before I do..... Lloyd.....my son."
It's kinda cool how Retribution and Absolute look together.. Some moves always looked cool together to me.
Please tell me you're going to do coliseum and the extra dungeon after this! I need to see that stuff.

Awwwwwww, cuuuuuuuuuuute! Colette is wearing Lloyd's jacket. I know it's probably for status and skill reasons, but it's a nice touch anyway.
Aweome awesome awesome!!!
aww mystic arte is on shining bind and indignation jud. i thought he would get some new or upgrade ver of a old arte
Genis: Absarlioluto!
It's more like Abusoryuuto.
Regal is so much more badass in this version. I was honestly extremely skeptic of the decision to even make this game, but if Regal's changed this much, I might just force myself to find the extra cash to shell out.
Ahh the memories of mithos
Well, they certainly beefed up Mithos. His first phase used to have only 55,000 health, and his second had 60,000, I believe.

I was wondering, did they make Mithos any more challenging than on the original Gamecube version or is he still super-easy?
I never saw him doing the Time Stop/Hourglass thing in the GCN version ._.
@@Yarlick Time Stop was a PS2 and newer version thing for example.

jereluv34 Y-yeah, sure, let's go with that. Spelling is "Cruxis", btw.
is it just me or does the font make the first character in Lloyd's name look like a D
HiKaDK77 yeah i figured
the font just makes it look like Dイド
so... Dido? |D
HiKaDK77 Dido was a fucking bitch, but I'm sure Lloyd wouldn't mind being a "dildo" for, say, Sheena...

Yggdrasill: Home... I'm going home
Lloyd: Something's wrong, he sounds like a puppet
Collete: What, wah
Yggdrasill: I need to thank you for going through all the trouble to bring me back here
I'm finally myself again
Lloyd: Damn, so that's what this is all about
Genis: Mithos, Martel is already dead

We aren't accepted anywhere
We opened our hearts, but no one took us in. Where sould we live?
Lloyd: You can live anywhere you like
Mithos: Don't make me laugh
Lloyd: I'm serious, anywhere is fine
If you aren't doing anything wrong, you should just live proudly in the open
Mithos: ...It's because we couldn't do that...
that I...that we wanted a place of our own!
If there is no place where I can live, and if I've been denied my Age of Lifeless Beings,
then the only thing left for me is to build a new world on Derris-Kharlan. A world just for my sister and me!

Collete: Mithos is!...
Genis: Lloyd, help him
Let him die while he's still himself!

Mithos :Farewell, my shadow. You, who stand at the end of the path I chose not to follow. I wanted my own world, so I don't regret my choice. I would make the same choice all over again. I will continue to choose this path!
Lloyd: You you could have lived with us, in our world
Damn it...
Origin: The old master of the pact is no more. What does the new master of the pact ask of this sword?
Lloyd: Restore the true for of our true world.
(anime cutscene)
Lloyd: Are we back
Wh...what's going on?
Sheena: What are you all doing?
Origin: You wish is granted.
But there is no link. Without a link, the land will die.
Collete: It can't be ( can't remember)
Origin : The world was originally separated into two in order to prevent its destruction. If it returns to its true form, the world lacks the mana to support itself. The land...is dying.
Lloyd: I don't need to know why it's dying! What do we need to do to stop it?
Origin: Support the two worlds by linking them with the Giant Tree. That is the only way to stop the destruction of the land.
Collete: We need to awaken the Giant Kharlan Tree!
Lloyd: ...I get it!
Collete: Lloyd, hurry! You must bathe the Great Seed in the mana of Derris- Kharlan before Derris-Kharlan drifts too far away!
Lloyd: All right, then! I'm counting on you, Eternal Sword!
Collete: the Great Seed is... already dead
Lloyd; Wait! Don't go! Please, wake up!
Collete: It looks like Derris-Kharlan stopped moving away.
Lloyd: Yeah, but why?
The Eternal Sword!
Collete: Thank goodness!...
Lloyd: This is my final wish. Eternal Sword...
Collete: Please...awaken the Great Seed!
Lloyd: I beg you, please, wake up!
Collete: ...Please!
Lloyd: Rise Giant Kharlan Tree!
Martel: I am Martel, and also the incarnation of the Great Seed itself. Lloyd, your hope as well as the hopes of others resurrected me.
Lloyd: So you're Mithos' sister?
Martel: No. Mithos' sister Martel is only one of the many souls within me; I am Mana, and I am the Giant Tree; I am a symbol of the many lives sacrificed to the Great Seed; I am the new spirit born to accompany the Giant Tree, and now the Seed has awakened anew along with me.
Lloyd: This is the Giant Kharlan Tree?!
Collete: It's so beautiful and so grand!
Martel: This is the future form of the Giant Tree. Right now, it is only a small seedling. In its current rate, the tree will wither and die.
Lloyd: Well then, how do we protect it?!
Martel:You must provide the tree with love and adoration. As long as those conditions are met, I shall always protect the seedling.
Lloyd: I promise! If the tree starts to wither, I'll make sure, we won't let it die!
Martel: Then Lloyd, on behalf of all living things, I want you to give this tree a new name, as a proof of the pact.
Lloyd: What?
Martel: The Giant Kharlan Tree was planted here by the elves when they first came as a guardian to watch over and protect them. This newly reborn tree protects elves, humans and the lives of all those who are caught in between. Therefore, this tree requires a new name.
Collete: Lloyd, pick a name for us, a name for everyone's tree.
Lloyd: So this tree is the link that connects the world.
Okay, I got it! This tree's name is...

Collete: Grandmother, I'm home
Phaidra.: Ohhhh! Chosen One!
Collete: No, Grandmother, I'm not a Chosen anymore.
Phaidra: Oh, yes...Colette, you have made us all proud.

Ninja: Sheena! I'm so glad you're safe!

I'm finally myself again
Time is finally starting to flow again from that night sixteen years ago.
Kratos: ... Don't
...Don't die before I do, Lloyd...
Well...I'm off!
thank you

流れ的にはミトスになるよなぁ?
so changing to his young form makes him stronger some how? lol
That's also why Goku and Gohan doing the exact opposite of that was considered "training" to them.
end ps2 and ps3 its more diferent gamecube version
