- Several short clips of police cars in downtown Athens. Notice the widespread use of halogen lights and there is even a Federal Signal Jetsonic lightbar which were introduced in the late 1980s. I'm not sure what the Nissan Pathfinder is and almost missed it.

Guys relax. Most of those cars are now retired. We now have a lot of modern and expensive cars.

Greek police needs a total modernization for it's fleet as currently clearly can be seen that they have a mix of pursuit police cars and lightbars dating for almost 20+ years. They had ordered some Hyundai i30's but you see them rarely
Citroën Xsara in good shape after 14 or 15 on duty.

@Code3Paris The Nissan Pathfinder is a Special Unit in Hellenic Police. It's called O.P.K.E. (Ο.Π.Κ.Ε.). Its a Crime and Terrorism Prevention Unit. (Not like SWAT. SWAT is different). They use marked and Unmarked Vehicles. In the clip, they were using an Unmarked Vehicle while On Duty.

Most of these vehicles are not in Athens. Code3Paris should visit other places.

But in Athens it is not the worst place of the police vehicles the worst I confirm to you is in Cuba the vehicles are mostly lada or more recent BYD a Chinese brand with a single blue lightning lamp I never heard lair the low

Most of the lights aren't actually green. It's just since they're halogen, the blue and a few yellow rays slip through. Unless you're using a filterless LED system, then you're going to have some color leakage. They are supposed to be blue though. At least I would assume so since their filters are blue.

I was in Lesvos last year and i saw a police car with the lights on but no siren

The Citroën vehicles are terrible.
They are I think our oldest police cars that are still in action,and they are used most in traffic police.Xsara & Octavias.Back in 2000's we had Nissan Primeras/Almeras,Citroen Xantias etc,but we replaced them pretty soon (with Octavia 5 in majority),except those 2 that I mentioned before.
I really believe that they have proven to be extremely good cars and that's why we still keep them,despite the fact that we bought new patrol cars.They do their job more than fine,so police doesn't pull them "out of action".

We already updated our light bars to led ones. These clips are old.
@@StrategosBill yup I've found it on the Google later, now that light bars and also cars looks fine. I wish Slovak police will start to use them also soon...

Its an order from the previous Chief of Police. A lot of officers disagreed because it damaged the new leds but the order its still active. Thats why no one pulls over to the side.

Trust me Jorge... once you've experienced traffic in Greece, you'll see it all. It's a variant of organized chaos.
Single stop-sign means you *slow down* at intersection. Only time i saw people actually, quaranteed stopping was when there were stop-sign and red lights or intersection had two stop signs. Drivers respect red lights rather well but i really would not count on it. "No passing", or any such signs, are just really blurry guidelines, not strict and enforced rules.
Despite that, i recommend using car for transportation while there. Distances between cities are long and and i have never trusted public transport in my country so i do less in greece.
Just drive carefully and like the worst is about to happen and it'll be just fine. Probably! :D

Why is Police in English ?
Because we have a lot of tourists and immigrants in Greece. Also you can see the Greek Police text which appears in Greek on the back or front glass.

1:35 _Trochaia?_ - Interesting mix of Greek and Latin text on markings. It might be better to use the Helvetica font for Greek since it's the local tongue, and Times for other languages.
They are greek capital letters. ΤΡΟΧΑΙΑ. In lower case letters it's τροχαία.

Usual stuff riding around with blue lights on all of the time creeping along in traffic no wonder the locals take no notice when its a real emergency. Seriously need some EU money for decent vehicles and up to date lights and livery or the Russians could sell them some 2nd hand Ladas

Evan Luc Le problème c'est qu'en france ce qui gère les véhicules sont des personnes qui refuse l'évolution des véhicules et veulent resté dans les années 80 niveaux éclairage et avertisseur sonore. C'est pour sa que l'on utilise encore le deux tons qui est complètement dépassé de nos jours, plus personnes n'y prêtent attention ce qui peux entraînait a des accidents, pourtant des qu'ils font une demande pour utiliser une nouvelles sirène on leurs dit non, et comme seule défense pour ce choix ils disent que le deux tons fait partit du patrimoine francais (patrimoine mon cu oui)
