Really devastated to learn of Barrington passing away. I remember many years ago I sent him an email saying how special his music was to the broken sword franchise and to me, he was so kind and replied straight away with a long email, he really took the time to speak to me which I'll never forget. His music to me was a huge part of Broken sword and subsequent games were not the same without it.

I have been watching Morse and Endeavor it seems all my life. I’ve watched each series multiple times. It is the only TV show that I watch the entire credits so I can listen to the music, and wanting more when they end. The Morse/Endeavor theme is the best TV theme music for all time. It is simply wonderful. It is much more than TV theme music.

A total hero of mine, Barrington Pheloung! So true and I love your quote about not being a snob... because Mozart, Bach, and Handel would write music today for movies, tv, games, etc. "You write the best music you can for whomever you can!" Yes indeed, that's what composers do.

His work has such a distinctive style. I played Broken Sword first, then I watched Inspector Morse, and I was genuinely surprised by how similar the music sounded in both! He had such a deep understanding of musical tone that his scoring technique seems to forsake distinctive melodies in favour of that aforementioned tone, while most composers would focus on the former. Of course, he could write some damn good melodies too!
Mr. Pheloung may be resting in peace, but his wonderful work will live on forever!

Amazing to see this. As a Pheloung who set his ring tone to video game music, it's awesome to know my cousin played a part in a genre I truly love.
    To Zanarkand Barry!
    RIP

So sorry to hear of the passing of Barrington, his music lives on, the first time I ever heard his music was the signature tune to Morse, the soulful lament under, through and around the morse code was inspired, moves me and still gives me goosebumps, memories of watching with my parents entwined with the haunting melody moves me still.

hah, I disagree with him about previous game music being naff - they were pushing the limits of the hardware at the time and there's a huge depth of amazing compositions with a charming appeal made during that era.. however absolutely around the time of Broken Sword 1 it was the perfect timing for more traditional composers to get onboard. Finally CD quality soundtracks weren't a problem anymore so I can totally understand his perspective and why it became more appealing around that time :)
He seems like a great guy, RIP!

I grew up with the great melodies of the 8 and 16biits and it remained the bar for which I would need to reach for every subsequent piece I wrote at least in terms of those with a pure melody. I also enjoyed the greatness that is classical music and the two combine beautifully. Those simpler times brought a tremendous influence to many so definitely not throwaway. Barrington Pheloung certainly great though and sad to know of his passing

RIP, i think it would be interesting that the idea of mozart/beethoven, if they were alive they would jump on the chance to make game music.
