Honestly every single bassline sucks complete ass on this and the last record, at least for me... a good bassline is not about pure virtuosity or melody, but how good it can support the song. The amount of times the basslines that don't hit the root notes of these very airy chords that desperately need some grounding is simply mind boggling. This sounds like they told him the scale but not the chord progression, so he just went for it on the first take. Periphal Vision had very simple but solid bass parts, even in parts without clear chord progressions, the bass clicked in between drums and guitars perfectly to make both sound better (i.e. New Scream Intro). Here, he sometimes hits the root of chords before the chords are played and plays some harmony when the chord is actually played, or in the worst case messes around a half or full step below/above the root right into the next chord. The bass playing on Good Nature and this honestly ruined the experience for me. Hit the root note at the right time, in between there is enough space to go crazy, but this is just distracting. No hate btw, saw these guys live recently and I have been a fan for over 4 years, but this has been bugging me for ever. If you like it, that is fine too, just sharing my thoughts.
Cheesy Cola I personally enjoy the superfluous basslines from these guys - particularly on this album - but appreciate how much detail you went into with your comment. I actually enjoyed reading it, if that makes sense.
a lot of my favorite artists are trying new things and i feel it requires multiple listens on their recent works to really digest, that being said i’m definitely glad i bought this record
I love this album I've listened to it so many times already. Thanks for the good music. My fave tracks are valley of the moon, temporary love, still in motion, and parties!
Imho this record shows what kind of direction they want to go and I totally love it. Turnover has been great for a long time imho, I liked them when they still were playing rock sounds, and I still like them now. They are creative and kind of searching, always evolving. That what makes them creative but also interesting - and surprising. I personally want them to keep searching for what truly feels like them because I've enjoyed the journey and will most likely continue to do so - and I'm actually really curious if they'll settle down with a specific sound for once and which it will be. And if not, what stages they'll go through next.
I feel like they will never repeat a sound.. it's kind of in the name. Anyway, did you like Myself in the Way? It's great, it had to grow on me first but it is great.
this album was much better than people realized, they wanted the peripheral vision sound but this was just a different mood altogerther no pun intended..
!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am partial to Much After Feeling, Plant Sugar, Number on the Gate, and Valley of the Moon... okay, as well as Still in Motion. the whole album is growing on me.
I'm new to this band and just listening through their discography for the first time. I think this album is better than the second one, but I like the first one most. This album is melodically and rhythmically very interesting and has a broader range of influences than any of the others. The lightness of feeling that they were trying to convey in the second album comes out a lot better in this sound than when they were trying to reconcile it with what they had been doing before. I like when I get really nice jangle vibes of Real Estate and Felt from this album. It doesn't really swing but there is an indie-dance vibe as well that I can dig here as well. One last thing, it really conveys the singer's vocal abilities better than any of the previous albums in terms of stylistic, dynamic, and emotional range and does similar things for the rest of the band. What I feel this album is missing are some of the really intense emotional moments of their original style, and I feel like now that they have been exploring this sound they might be able to pull some of those into it with a soaring chorus or a wall-of-sound burst here and there.
The music of this album is really really nice, it's the vocals that fall flat to me. The vocals feel secondary to the instrumentation, resulting in a lot of these songs lacking the catchiness that songs like Humming or Sunshine Type had. Still, I'm sure it'll grow. Excited to see them live tomorrow!
I feel exactly the same. Much after feeling, parties, and the opening track are the only ones that catch me. Everyone else falls flat because of the vocals and melodies. I'm hoping this grows on me
i think Austin’s vocals are far more suited for this style of music and they’ve improved drastically, however i feel they are really low in the mix on some tracks and hard to hear, this might not be their best work but i think it’s their prettiest lol, even including GN.
@@influentialdetour I loved PH first listen even though people were freaking out over the change. Even when GN came out and people were disappointed it didn't sound like PH part 2, I loved GN first listen. But for this album I don't feel the same. @good night moon damn that sucks homie. And you already know our music tastes align with each other, so imma have to sub up to your channel. Keep the uploads comin.
It’s kinda a bummer that everyone seems so disappointed with this new album. Turnover never really sticks with a genre for that matter. Every album is different from the last, I mean go back and listen to each album from the first one to the newest one. None are quite the same but all great in their own way. I personally think this album is hella rad especially since it’s nothing like the old stuff.
Changing genre is fine up to a point, but if it's not good or relevant... it's just wasting your creative time. Half of this sounds like really dreary jazz music. It's not even remotely good in what it's aiming to be, and that's the problem
Phi avir how you can define any music to be relevant? Especially turnovers music when every album sounds different than the last lol. And I respect you don’t like it, but what exactly is it aiming to be? I don’t think I would call that jazz haha
Shit is trash compared to their self titled, blue dream, magnolia, PV and there 2 song ep lol that's the point we are trying to get across good nature was lame too I love these guys but nah they could do better
Gabriel Villegas lmao I wouldn’t say any of this is trash. Especially good nature that was one of the better albums. Respect your opinions but they never stick to the same music genre it’s always something different every release. Everyone wants the old music style back I doubt they’ll ever do it
no clue how someone couldnt dig this. I love how they are trying some new stuff out. Might not be as catchy as their older stuff but the catchyness is there if that makes sense. Give this album a chance, listen to it a few times. Its a completely different vibe but its sick. Perfect album for vinyl too.
okay. fine, it's not PV or Good Nature etc., but im sure well come to appreciate this album for what it is, the same way we came to love their previous releases.
