    Treasures- us sawyers have been given the privilege of seeing inside these logs for the first time- but only a few a talented enough to bring the lumber to a quality heirloom piece like you did. I came for the rust, and stayed for the sawdust!

      Very much so! It’s amazing how different it looks when the tree is down for a few years before it’s milled compared to milling it right away.

    Great work. I made a kitchen table out of ash that the boards were under cover outside for two years. Table came out great, inlays and everything. After a month inside the table curled up, warped and cracked everywhere. Don't know why.

    Jason, the english walnut has such a nice, soft tone to it. Reminds me of american butternut (aka "white walnut). Great choice for the furniture you just completed. I especially admired the legs/stands you crafted for the peices. I don't like the look of those hairpin legs on live edge furniture. The ones you created look much sturdier and artistic. Once again, impressive craftmanship and satisfying to watch and learn. Thanks, John

    the wood is beautiful, and your work is great; one concern I have is the knots on the live edge. I would have sanded them down a bit so they would not do as much damage to people's legs and cloths. kep up and you will have it all sorted .

      @@marknunya3035 well, the wood did darken a little but the grain exploded with this finish. I was a little worried when I first poured it on but it definitely pulled through. 😉

    When I have a board/slab like that that I'm calling "flat enough to start" I usually flip it over with each pass - this sort of averages the 2 faces until one is truly "flat" then the other comes out parallel.
    Nice planer by the way

      I haven’t in the past but I just got a new 20 watt laser engraver that I plan to use to make logo plates to mount to my work. That video will probably be next. Stay tuned!

      It’s 100% English Walnut that was cut from a Walnut orchard.

    Really beautiful lumber, Jason. Then you made some really beautiful tables. Plus it looks like you may have some turning stock. Is the birdseye pattern typical for English walnut? I'm not familiar with it. I also expected a lot of burl pattern based on those knobs on the log. I'm sure your former boss was thrilled with everything.

      Thank you, Bill! The birdseye is typical but it really seems to stand out in this wood that waited years to be milled. The fresh-cut logs don’t show it off as much.

    I thought that you need to buy yourself a plaster knife, so you clean with it, to wipe all the sawdust off the log and see the beauty of the timber. Highly recommend.
