Such a lovely song. Everything just sits perfectly. Glen was in fact an excellent guitarist.

A "Lineman" works on the electrical grid. They climb telephone poles, keep the lights on and your dial tone clear. Mr. Campbell was a studio musician first and played on many of the "Beach Boys" records. Peace and Love!

I'm a fan of rock-n-roll, but I've always liked Glen Campbell. He had a golden voice and was actually a hell of a guitarist.

@L.A'S CLASSICS With all due respect, High tension, Main power grid, work is not solo work.
A lone guy doesn't climb a HT tower to reconnect a City.
Perhaps local power lines on a wooden telephone pole, you may be right!
There are several references in the song, leaning towards Telephone.
Historical fact: Native Americans used to listen to the Telegraph wires "singing"
usually because of wind causing the "whine" refered to in the song.
Then you hear the instrumental Telegraph morse code in the background after he says, "Is still on the line..."
There is a comm vibe in the song.
In the 60's there were lots of telephone linemen climbing up and down poles, 24/7 testing and trouble shooting, to keeping communications up and running.
They would carry these portable rotary dial telephones, that they would hook up, and listen to, to check the connections.
Granted, there were always Powerlinemen out on the road 24/7 also.
But then again the Main power grid is seldom along the main road, where people drive. But Telephone is almost always.
This song was way before it was common to add TV cable, to the local wooden Power and Telephone poles.
Usually power was topside, so telephone workers didn't have to cross over these, and possibly have contact with them.

A lineman repairs power lines. It's a hard and damgerous job, requiring one to climb electrical poles in all sorts of weather to keep the power on.

When I hear this I'm reminded of my childhood visiting relatives near Wichita, Kansas on a hot, humid summer afternoon and seeing these long flat county roads lined with telephone poles and and seeing a sole lineman working at the top of one of them. All of that is true except for seeing a lineman. That's false memory enhanced after I heard the song in 1968/69.

Stevie Winwood on Rhythm Guitar and vocals, Eric Clapton on Acoustic Guitar, Ric Grech base guitar and Ginger Baker on drums. A late 60’s super group that only made one album but had three giants of rock. Kirti, your interpretation of the song was right on from my perspective. A song from a person that knows they are lost and just wants to get back home to a life that is more fulfilling. Winwood is “channeling Celtic-Folk legends with lyrics aimed at topics such as Spiritual rebirth, which were aimed at rockers who were burned out at the end of the 60’s”.

Both of you are excellent, and superb reactors to the music 🎶 that I grew up on, and I thoroughly enjoy watching the two of you react, and hearing your thoughtful responses and analysis.
    Good stuff 😊😊😊

Blind Faith has another song with similar lyrics, “Presence of the Lord”.
Obviously, more spiritually grounded based on the title.

Steve Winwood was singing in the Blind Faith song. He has had a long career in many bands and solo - as you suspect, I am sure you have heard his voice before.

Yeah, I was in the 7th grade listening on a transistor radio with an earplug, when this song was on the airwaves. I noticed the telegraph orchestration back then.
And took it to refer to a Telephone Company lineman.
I also remember testing the 9v battery on my tongue, to see how much power it had left. LOL! Fresh, was very "SPICEY"!

When it comes to I can't find my way home I always thought that song deeper than what is on the surface. For example ask yourself who is he talking to? Where is home? Who is he imploring to come off his throne? If you were a Christian who would you be waiting for? But I might be reading too much into it
