- Karaims are one of the smallest ethnic minorities of Turkic origin residing in Lithuania. Vytautas the Great brought 383 Karaim families from Crimea 600 years ago and setted them in Trakai. The Karaims served as guards of the ducal castles. Afterwards they were mostly occupied with agriculture, gardening, horse-breeding, trade and crafts, and with time they became so close to Lithuania that did not differ from the local people in their life style.
Kibinai (in the Karaite language “kybyn”, plural “kybynlar”; in Lithuanian kibinai) is national pie of Karaites. It is one of the most known dishes of Karaites. It is crescent-shaped pie with a stuffing.

The history of this place is as fascinating as the old architecture. Amazing !! I love those life sized cardboard people. 50 cents to use the toilet ?!?!
