Founded by Miley Cyrus, The Happy Hippie Foundation is a nonprofit organization that rallies young people to fight injustice facing homeless youth, LGBT youth, and other vulnerable populations.

Now that Melanie has died and another wonderful soul has left us, I listen to this song with tears in my eyes. Maybe I'm crying for my youth, or because my generation failed so miserably to make this world a more peaceful place. But when I see the looks Miley and Melanie give each other, I understand that there's always a chance. And Miley bought one. And so should we, every new day. Thanks Miley! And may you rest in peace, Melanie!
Beautiful sentiments. I got to see her for 2nd time in 2018, in Flagstaff AZ.. she talked to wishing she'd brought up her kids in a place where she had Apple Trees. Glad she made it to Nashville,,, she wrote her farm song about apple trees.. I love you sister and soon the rest of us, children of 60s will join you ! I can't wait.. this was beautiful. I don't know much about Miley other than her over processed hits. She has a beautiful voice!

My post isn’t too brag or boast .. concert I saw had 90 people tops .. we all walked down to stage n we bumped each others,, literally are bumps backside. She turned around like me n opened her arms to hug me .. I was an am a brunette with bangs with Mediterranean heritage. I got a huge Mama Melanie hug n a kiss.. it was magical. I had a rare cancer head n neck in 2016 n radiation in 2017 .. I didn’t have much a voice.. I barely uttered out , I love you for now n forever. She just nodded like she understood. Melanie has so much love , non judgements as she met me n others. She is everything we knew her from as kids,, her music. She played that night with Jordie and Beau. Jordie stays down south in Phoenix and I think she was performing at a club on the regular. Wow Joerdie is so talented and has such a health conscious aura.. fit as a fiddle , Beau incredible genius guitars n did some background singing. Ok I’ll stop there. Gosh I hope I haven’t repeated myself from another recent post. Like all of us here.. loving , accepting , forgiving when we can. So I just thought I’d be straight up n apologize if I misspoke. Peace to us all .
I just discovered these duets of Melanie & Miley. I can’t believe how Cool Melanie & Miley are together. I’m sad to hear of Melanie’s passing, saddens me immensely, as like you from teenage years, through these songs & others, we had such Great Hope our land would become peaceful. To be fair, I don't think many would contest what a talent she is and how brilliant her Backyard Session was (Jolene is unreal). Unfortunately, she's wasting her talent at the moment and plays up all the time instead of letting her music speak for itself. Bangerz was an album of medium to low-quality songs. That said, I agree with you that I'd love to hear a new country album from her.
As for this particular song, I don't really like the way she sings it - sounds too nasal for my liking.

I do believe Woodstock started the lighters and match during Melanie's performance -- since it ran into the night! She was a true pioneer who paved the way for other women to just use their first names as well as she had three songs that charted on the top 40s all at the same time -- she was the first to do it. Melanie was always one of my favorite artists. What a great pairing. Miley and Melanie are great together.
Miley will never know this but this song and no love without freedom. Saved my life when i was 16, at that time in my life, i was lost, i was broken. I looked for hope everywhere i went. But i realized that hope is where you make hopefull choices, and growing up watching hannah montana and miley being in my life for years, i really needed inspiration and Miley sang these words while i sat on the shore of huntington beach. At that moment i sang along..... and i knew things were going to okay
And lets not forget Melanie who's singing along with her WROTE this music and WROTE these lyrics that saved you. Gotta love them both and both have strong amazing voices and talents. I often feel the song writer is skipped over all too often. I'm glad you found inspiration in this song. I hope in the 5 years since you wrote this that you've gone on to seek out Melanie's contributions and songs too. You are a Beautiful People too....yes you are and she and Miley are Beautiful People TOO.

I couldn't name a single song Miley has done, other than Wrecking Ball which possibly became famous more for its video than the song. But I really don't care. I don't care what this young woman has or has not done in her life or career. Why? Because she did this with Melanie, my favourite singer from when I was a teenager. They are beautiful together. So many people underestimate artists like Miley Cyrus who have so much purpose and power with not only their voices, but their careers. Miley has such a great heart and personality that the media chooses not to see. She's doing amazing things right now with Happy Hippie and I couldn't be more proud of her
Give some TOP Credit or at least shared credit to Melanie who WROTE this song and WHO's talented and ignored by main stream media because she choose to live outside it. A little bit. Melanie's voice was and still is amazing. She's 3 years my senior so I've known her music and her precious persona if you will for a long time. Miley is not underestimated any more than Melanie is or was. They march to a different drummer and I really prefer their choices to do so. I don't want them being anything but what they want to be and what they are willing to share and how they choose to share that too. Main stream is so over~estimated. Love Miley's back yard shows and love Melanie as the Beautiful People she's proven to be her entire life. Mom, daughter, wife as one of her songs goes....I'll be sister, mother, lover and friend. As a fan of both beautiful ladies I can't help but ask for more but more importantly I give them my respect to be the wonderful talented ladies to choose their own paths in and out of the public eye. I can celebrate what they choose to share and let go of my need for more and hope that the over rated media gives them similar respect.
@@lasinmt106so we'll put. My Pop Worked for Melanie and her Husband Peter through the 70s as I was growing up, I was at their House all the time as a preteen and into High school...I'm 61 now, so this was back in the Stone Age .mid 70s into 80 when I graduated.
Like "the Boss," Miley will duet with anyone she likes if they ask. I love her duets and how she changes how she sings to make THEM sound better. And I love older voices, even when they are starting to go. They gain authenticity, sorrow, and wisdom that comes through when they sing.

It still works albeit in a very different way than it used to. Miley clearly respecting and assisting this wonderful lady. Always one of my favorite Melanie songs.

This is like the greatest song I have ever heard. So simple yet so powerful.
In her prime, Melanie Safka was a great singer. Her songs and recordings are still powerful. There was a war on (and a draft) back then and people cared enough to sing and protest about what was wrong in the late 1960s/early 1970s. I still get chills when I watch the video of Melanie singing “Lay Down” live on TV with the excellent Edwin Hawkins Singers. So powerful. I hope people will look for it!
Guys this is beyond amazing. I have been a fan of her for years and the reason why is hidden in these Backyard Sessions. This is Miley Cyrus. The one who can sing every kind of music tremendously perfectly. This needs waaaay much more views cause there's a true talent, with a super awesome song and a HUGE cause. She's incredibly talented.
