Interns are being exploited as cheap labour nowadays, so be cautious who you intern for.
To the youngsters who are chasing internships, my advice is to relook at why you are doing so, and consider being more selective and targeted. This is so that your time spent in the company is worth it. An internship's goal isn't just exposure to the real world, but should also be a helpful experience in enhancing your strengths, or giving you a rightly-fitted advantage when you start employment.
It would be wise to look at your strengths early in life (I would suggest to do this in secondary school i.e. way before University-going age) and determine if you want to develop them for the long term, and to explore your interests as early as possible. Then choose your internships that align with your strengths, interests and inclinations. This is so that your time is well spent in the right company to develop/enhance the right skillsets for your longer term employability.

Also internships can pay insanely well hence the craze in tech, it's common for people to throw school to focus on interviewing and internships. Last year facebook was paying interns in singapore 10k/m, one internship can cover the entire cost of a degree at nus
