To bring the nose around to a better turning opponent, the "trick" is to get enough distance so that his line-of-sight rate falls below your turn rate. It's the same reason why the close-up mistrals failed - LOS rate is too high for the missile to pull the lead. Once you figure that out, you realize that you can take that space in the vertical so that the other guy can't point his nose at you and as a consequence, you get a 90 degree aspect almost for free. This is pure logic and geometry. Forget about speed and sustained turns - climb rate rules the fight.

The scout in question was unarmed at the time, carrying casualties away from goose green abd ammo and other supplies forward. It was on an ammo run when shot down, the marine pilot, called Nunn or similar was killed but u cant remember if anyone else was aboard.

(My SA San Carlos mission reproduces this event and the subsequent destruction of the AAA site by more gazelles). No the UK didn't have mistrals. The mistral is the best Fox2 in DCS.
No AAA was deployed at San Carlos Bay zone, the gazelle (1) was shoot down by infantry fire. The Pucara get 1 Scout with cannons/mg, 1 more scout overflying him so close that the chopper go down into a small lake, some kind of force landing, and 2 Sea King with a salvo of rockets.
And now that we will shortly have the new South Atlantic map, all of our Chairman Margaret Clarkson fantasies - and replays - will now come true ! Though a bit concerned as to why the fuse was not being turned below the rotors to track the aircraft... Flying it totally like a plane seemed a bit counter-intuitive...
Gorgeous helicopter. It has such a distinctive sound, as does its big brother the Dauphin. My school was by the Thames, i.e. the route helicopters had to take over London, & they were the easiest to identify just by sound.

I don't get how you detect each other from a distance. I'm new to DCS und right now I train in the Bf 109. My training mission is to gun down 2 P51 Trainers, which are just flying around. Everytime I pass them to fast, I can't find them again because they are so far awar so quick. Turning on Markings helps, but not if they pass by to fast... and blue Text isn't very easy to read...

Cap, it not hard to over-speed the Gazelle. The first 2 crashes you were nose down for to long. Did you notice the right roll both times. 🤔 You did well, and I had this happen to me several times when trying to push it for speed.
5:00 pretty sure you got retreating edge stall from over speed, i cant see the speed in the video but i can see it was high and that roll is characteristic of it. (i watched it back right before the crash i can see up to just before the 300 mark and i dont see the needle. so you are definitely fast 7:50, same thing. As you said youre new to helo but you need to stop diving at the ground like that. That time you can clearly see the speed in the red. They dont put that marker in for nothing lol.
Every time you “set up” by switching a bunch os switches, I wonder why there isn’t just a master switch. On modern planes, at least, why aren’t there just selections for air to air or air to ground that set everything up for you?

Why is the Pacara jockey turning in the range of fire from the helicopter? What as stupid thing to do! Fly out of range and then come back head on - the Pacara can take quite a beating the scout would be destroyed by any amount of canon fire.

I'm Irish, and we technically have an AirForce in the Irish Air Coprs but all they've got are some old helicopters, prop trainers and a private jet. We were at Naas general hospital years and years ago after my grandmother had a fall and we were just waiting around outside while we head old polyphonic ringtone of the airwolf theme, we turn around see an guy in an Air Corp uniform take out his old Nokia and answer the call. I'll never forget that random airman, he had to have a good sense of humour.

L model flight depends on the Gazelle pilot. No Pucara could beat an experienced Gaz pilot.
