Best feature of the G95. You get the G85 instead. Less money still most of what you need. Or get an XT30, or A6400. A let down camera the G95.
@the awakened i own a6400 and i really consider getting g95 or secondhand GH5
As far as i read on Panasonic Germany, it also get unlimited recording in Germany . So i think in all of Europe.
Even for blogging the G85 would still be a better choice since it has the same image stabilization, flip screen and doesn't have the extra crop in 4k.
I'd love to see Warren be more active on TH-cam! But I reckon the NBA is keeping him quite busy..

Nice review! What stood out most was the S1 having autofocus issues...
It really does look like a perfectly fine camera, but when you look at how cheap the G85 is right now it seems really hard to justify. You might as well pick up the older model to start and then upgrade later to something like the GH5, if your focus is video, or G9, if you prefer stills, or whatever their respective replacements will be a few years down the road.
Or maybe go ahead and spend the extra money now but for the Sony or Fuji options.

More of the same but that doesn't have to be bad. Just means you don't have to see this as an upgrade, more a slightly more modern model.
What was the camera used to shoot this review? The focussing is terrible in places.
What is the mic you attach to S1 which is using in this clip, Lok. When it’s windy, the sound still good.

The reason that the headphone Jack isnt up top as well is because your not usually using headphones while vlogging. More so when your the one behind the camera recording to monitor your audio in real time. No one does that while vlogging. At most they have the visual audio on screen.

6:09 I assume it's the same sensor that's in the GH5 and G9. If so, it's a very nice sensor. I'll be in line for the G95 :-) 10:00 Lagging behind others?...depends on who you ask/what you need/want. I'm sure that's the same sensor from the GH5/G9 and I can tell you right now, after having owned/used some of the based full frame and APS-C mirrorless cameras, my GH5/G9/G85 photos remain some of my most favorite photos ever. There's just something about the look and feel of the images (processed raw files) that really work for me. When I need/want the FF look, I have a Z7...but I really miss having a nice m4/3 camera, so my barely used X-E3 is going out the door and a G95 will be replacing it. A Z7 / G95 combo will be great in my situation.
Did you end up buying one? I've been looking into it in-depth - It doesn't take as good images as the G9, it is slightly better than G85 for photos, but I don't know if it is better for video, which is what I mostly care about. I'm thinking of getting G85 for video and buying an old Fuji XT1 for photos. I could get a G9, but I still wouldn't get the Fuji look.
@@actstuntcam I did buy the G95 but only kept it for a little while. I think for most people it would make more sense to buy the G9. But like you mentioned, the larger sensor in the Fuji would probably be better overall for still images.
@@ThePhotographyHobbyist For hiking and camping the size of the G95 is more appealing that the G9 (But I guess I need to see them in reality. If the GX9 had a flip screen and a mike jack, I would probably get that. Fantastic video, by the way, your enthusiasm gave it a great sense of fun. BEST REGARDS, Campbell:)

The time limit of the cameras are due to the EU being 💩. They class it as a video camera if it shoots more then 29min. Then they put a tariff that is almost the double then the stills tariff.
oh damn I didn't know that, it makes a bit more sense now why certain cameras's only shoot up to 29 min of footage. Thanks for educating me haha :)
I'm not too sure about that, may be it's partly true, but the Sony a6400 apparently don't have recording time limit at all. Same as GH5
They started removing the tax in 2016:

I can add that the GH5 is more expensive in the EU then the rest of the world so they might be selling it as a camcorder.
GH5 costs 1497 dollars in New York and in Sweden 2000 dollars..
I'm not sure that my post with the links are visible to some due to automatic filtering but in 2016 the EU decided that due to the tariff limiting technology the tariff should be removed by all states by the 1st of july 2019. So back in 2016 the tariff was still in action and it's gone by now in most members states.
If they remove the time limit in EU market, it will be considered a camcorder, which has a higher import duty than a still camera
The reason there is a recording limit in Europe, and not in the states, is because in Europe, a camera with a unlimited recording capacity is taxed as a ''video camera'', which have a higher tax rate for manufacturers than a normal camera.

Lok, long time no see the "Hong Kong Travel Photography Tips", which is my favorite series. When would you do a new episode?
I don't know how it's set up in the G90, but the difference in dynamic range between my older GX85 and the G9 I got recently is MASSIVE. There's so much more room to push the shadows in particular without losing color accuracy. I shoot a lot in difficult lighting conditions and I've found the extra wiggle room in the G9's sensor to be of MASSIVE help.
But what about video?
@@actstuntcam It was close before the G9 got a massive update. Now that Panasonic's made the G9 basically almost the same as the GH4, it's no comparison. The G9 is massively superior to the GX85 in video as well.
@@MarcosCodas Thanks Marcos :) I guess I have to decide if I want to pay the extra - the G95 just dropped significantly in price and the G9 just got more expensive (in NZ) - Also for hiking and camping the smaller and much lighter G95 has some appeal.
@@actstuntcam If you won't do professional shoots, I'd say the G95 will be more than sufficient. If you think it has enough weather sealing for your needs, go for it. That's why I moved from the GX85, actually. I needed the dual memory card slots and weather proofing for commercial work outside. If you don't need either, you should be super happy with the G95.
@@MarcosCodas That confused me for a moment. You got the G9 because of superior weather proofing AND got the GX85 for times when you wanted something small, but didn't need weather sealing... I guess you are not vlogging with the GX, so don't need a flip screen, or mike jack... I literally have no idea why they didn't include these features!!!??? So annoying.

In Europe the taxes / customs fee on camecorders are higher than on stills cameras. And the definition for being a camecorder is Video capability without recording time limitations - asfaik.
Except that tax has been dropped, and weirdly the G9 has massive restrictions on recording time.

Plus free VLog-L is better than my GH5, except you need (really need) 10-bit 4k to use V-LogL or you'll be so unhappy (unless you like posterisation in blue sky, then you're all good)...

Good to see you Lok and Warren. Having owned both a G7 which I traded up to a G80/85 which after a time I traded up against some glass I needed for my DSLRs. My only complaints were that they were physically too small in the hand for still photography, the x2 crop was a pain and the auto focus wasn't impressive however the bodies were good value for money.
My main interest lay in playing with 4k video and in that respect they both were fine but this is where the x2 crop became an issue because for video work you would normally mainly use wide angle lenses and these whilst available from either Panasonic or Olympus, the ones you would want are pretty expensive. Although now a bit long in the tooth, the GH5 for mainly video work would still probably be better.
That s1 isnt good at hunting at all. Focus was all over

Good review and thank you for that, the g85 or g95 both are very good and where you buying from I have my g95 for 500€ on Amazon body only, so worth it, but I think the worst camera from panasonic it's better than any other camera without image stabilization, Sony Canon fujifilm, you buy this camera for juste like a Webcam at home you can't go out with that crappy cameras, camera with image stabilization better 10000x than camera have a good fucus but shaking like a ***** 😂😂😂, who need to watch you face when you shaking like as****

I love Lok's videos, as I love those from Kai. Warren and Ian have also produced good stuff but even though I know you can't go back, I do miss the old DRTV stuff. The humour, the review style, the guests and challenges and the other wonderful presenters. The newer stuff definitely does not quite have the pazazzz of those days. I also have to wonder why so many good presenters have left DRTV. Must be a difficult company to work for.
Long time Pani owner/user and IMO this new Pani camera is a total 'steaming mound'. HUGE thumbs down for it.
So the g90 is weaksauce unless you need long recording times and vlog....smh panasonic..
You might as well spend a few hundred more dollars and get a used GH5.

While I agree with the general notion that G90 is behind already here and there its IBIS and weathersealing sets it apart from the XT30 and I guess A6400. The crop in the video..is…...a way to destroy Paansonics status as being state of the art when it comes to video. Silly. Surely at this price.Lok: it seems your English is getting a bit worse?
