I agree. But religious folks are scared to confront their own beliefs. People should research their religion or text on their own! But I do disagree with black people teaching hell more. I've been to plenty of white churches and that's all they teach and being frequently in white spaces.

Dr. Black is telling the whole truth. One thing I've known about some Christians you cannot critique that religion. They take it as a personal affront. They really don't want to address any of the flaws in the church.

    • @princellasmith7562

There is a difference between addressing the state of the American Christian Church and addressing Christianity itself.
A lot of people take their complaints about the state of the church out on the actual religion, and they shouldn't. There is nothing wrong with Jesus. The problem is a lot of His followers.
It's almost the equivalent of people who argue against equal rights for black people based on the fact that a number of black people commit crimes. You can't judge the entire black race by what some black people do. You cannot make a case against Christianity itself based on what a few people did to abuse the use of Christianity.
The KKK burned crosses in people's yards. That didn't make Jesus wrong. That made the KKK wrong.

@@princellasmith7562Could you address her statement about churches not addressing issues in the church? Yes... one cannot indict the whole religion, but why does it seem like the church never address alot of the judgements and the contradictions like some sins don't get the unanimous level of condemnation as others... ain't all sins regarded in the same manner?

@marilynclarke6092 I think that was the whole point of @SeeknDaTruth comment. There are no levels but when it comes to some church folks and certain sins, they have tried to put levels on sin. Mainly it's because they sin differently and those never seem as harsh to them. But last I checked blasphemy of the Holy Spirit was the only sin there was a difference to

I have felt as a young person growing up Christian and listening to the interpretations and sermons I would question things I was being taught to do. There was always a reluctance in answering the complicated questions and instead i was just being told to believe in what was said and God is the answer, so it taught me to stop asking questions. I heard listening to Dr. Black for the 1st time some answers to the questions I asked and as a Spiritual Christian I understand I am finding answers in Dr. Black's teaching that are God sent and it's been a long time coming. I am so happy and proud of his teachings and can't wait as my learning opens me as I go through my new journey. I can't thank you enough Professor Hunter and Dr. Black for helping me on this journey.

I spent several years with my husband in a white church setting and trust me they never talked about going to hell. I was amazed that they read much more scripture than Black churches during the service but never practiced any of it. Once we went to their home and saw a whole a$$ Nazi shrine(yes they were old Germans). The church died out because they refused to open up to the changing neighborhood. That’s when I realized they had a different agenda that was not for us. Love my KnuFam!

You are so correct, Karen. For instance, John Allegro was an atheist who did not believe in God, and yet he was a very prominent member of the small team who decided, in the finale, which books were authentic and 'worthy' of insertion into the bible canon and which were considered apocryphal. I believe that this was for the purpose of controlling the narrative (of what the 'dominant' group wanted the masses to believe). It is most unfortunate that many bible believers will not venture outside the bible for historical proof and related information. Most are also not aware that more than 90 books were discovered at the caves of Qumran (among the Dead Sea Scrolls) and yet the 'Christian' bible only consist of 66! Why? What was hidden that we were not to know, such as where Cain got his wife and started a family (since, once he killed Abel, all that was left, according to scripture, was Adam, Eve, and Cain, who was sent away to the land of Nod). Religion, sadly, do not encourage critical thinking ability, and it is most unfortunate that many (especially blacks) do not engage in serious study and intense research, but takes that one person in the pulpit's rendition as 'gospel truth' (unlike the biblical ancient Boreans who carefully examined the scriptures for themselves to see "if these things are so"). Keep up the good work! I love your channel! What did the bible prophet Hosea say? "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge". The Black church, unfortunately, is strong on stirring the EMOTIONS, with extremely little INTELLECTUAL stimulation.

Growing up as a preacher's kid, I am definitely on a different journey than what I grew up on. Religions are difficult for me. My dad preached rapture, mark of the beast, 666, antichrist, etc. He would make it a movie night with screen and film projector. The church would have popcorn and juice and he would show it to the congregation which did include a lot of teenagers and young people. He has different beliefs now but never corrected that information given out. I'm on a different spiritual journey now and my awakening continues. Thanks for this conversation Professor Hunter and Dr. Black. #KnubianLove 😊

This was so spirit filled-thank you both so very much! Oh yes indeed Dr. Black, it is all about the LOVE! This is why I don't refer to those who like to make the claim = "God fearing" people, anymore- instead I say "God loving" because their actions/behavior toward their fellow man/woman will tell the whole story. That direct relationship with the Most High will eventually lead you to the simplicity of just LOVE, but at a higher elevation of it. "Jesus knew the human heart, and that's the REAL TEXT." Amen Dr. Black. Whew!! There goes one of his spiritual gems again- and I am grateful. Thank you Prof Hunter for this.

There's a lot of fear (being scared of) God that's preached in the black church as opposed to respect, adoration, etc. I can remember being told not to question to question and all the old southern Baptist church sayings/traditions. When I tell you this had me in a chokehold! I was "doing church" for so long. I finally had to break away from all the "you're supposed to do this or that/ legalism". I told God the truth, broke away from those chains and NOW we have a real relationship.

Dr. black has a right to his opinion, but not a monopoly on the truth. It appeared, as it was expressed as a fact, and I’m not sure it’s a fact that can be supported. I have been a minister at a black Penecostal, black, Christian Methodist, Black southern Baptist, predominantly, white charismatic, and predominantly white southern Baptist church, and it is my experience from my teaching, and my hearing that hell was preached far more in the predominantly white churches, and most definitely the predominantly white denominations. I found the straight black men narrative of the introduction of this program somewhat weird and quite laughable. I listen and enjoy your program quite regularly. Thank you for the dialogue. I looked at all them angels and biblical figures and not ONE looked like me.
The cradle of religion is Africa and the Middle East but they hate us and S*** hole countries???? Nope. How do you believe in the Bible but deny the region these people came from?

Why did I think of Deion Sanders when Dr. Black brought up being offered money to take excellence from Black kids. Essentially, giving up on the building of our community within the community. No shade but I had to sit with that...

    • @cgrock
      @cgrock 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I guess you haven't looked at the composition of Sanders teams at Colorado vs. Jackson State - not that much of a difference - he's still serving and directly impacting a significant number of Black kids. Who says Sanders gave us who he is -- There's no secret of who he is -- he's transparent -- But I think the point you're making is how Deion left a Historically Black Institution for a predominantly White Institution. That's a different question and it's his decision to make. Daniel Black leaving Clark Atlanta to go to a PWI is not a comparable comparison to Deion's situation because the professor doesn't have control over the composition of the student body. Deion does.

    • @SageMoon8495
      @SageMoon8495 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@cgrock My thought regarded the latter. I believe you're excusing him leaving an HBCU to go to a PWI because he's still "serving" Black kids. In my opinion, and as an HBCU graduate who also briefly attended a PWI, it is not the same at all. He may be transparent...cool. What does his transparency have to do with the end game in and for the Black community? To cape for him is a bit PR'ish. Also, my thought is not a judgment. However, it does lead to greater conversation which should be the goal within OUR community. No disrespect, but if you're not Black I don't expect you to fully understand why there was/is such disappointment that he left JSU. But if you are, maybe consider our dialogue a bit more deeply. Peace.

"The secret about being in America - it's always begging you to give up who you ARE for what you can GET." - Dr. Daniel Black. I'm slamming Dominoes on the table without the dominoes! 🙂
Professor Hunter and Dr. Black, let's just "put it where the goats can get it" - I don't want to be more like Jesus if it requires me to look within and "crucify" anything within my "heart" that's not like Jesus. Just give me some rules! I can fake compliance with a set of rule. I grew up drinking Nestle's Quik and that's how I like my Christianity/Religion - Quik to receiving a crown without the option of enduring a cross! 🙂
I don't why Professor Hunter is always trying to hand us a mirror! It took me years before I could remove the towels that I had draped over all of the mirrors. I didn't want to deal with all of that stuff! 🙂 You know why? I read the parable of the 'Good Samaritan' and I concluded that I had probably resembled more of the other characters in the parable but with a faulty self-assessment that I was the 'good Samaritan' in the parable - the 'Drum Major Instinct'.
I'm not smart enough to define what a "white" church and a "black" church are to be quite honest. They became quite irrelevant when I engaged in the hard and quite painful (in the beginning) work of self-reflection. The "So loved"..."the WORLD" written in John 3:16 from God's perspective of humanity, while routinely quoted is often ignored in the personal work required of continually becoming better people in our short-lived journey in this world.

That taking as truth is important. Hearing a differing opinion is great, but it has to be labeled as such. Good comments.

We need to leave these Eurocentric fable based spiritual paths behind. (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.) Actually the fable based African systems aren’t the answer either. Religion short circuits the ability to think critically. Spiritual enlightenment comes from mastering one’s emotions and impulses.

      2 Peter 3:3-9
"Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4 They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” 5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water. 6 By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. 7 By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.
8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."

Prof the call in caller was only giving her comment base what your guess stated. You’re always making statements that different ideas and opinions are good but if it doesn’t line up with what you feel a response should be or go against your favorite guest then you end up using your platform to discredit the caller. Don’t forget it’s the listener and caller that creates the space you move in.

There is no black church, there is no white church, but there are church congregations comprised of various and sundry peoples of different ethnicities and cultures.
The point is, there is only one church, and the church is one body, the body of Christ. It is one people, a peculiar people, whereas before they were not a people in the sight of God.
The church is an invisible kingdom in the midst of the world. It came without observation.

    • @cgrock

Very naive view -- Do your research -- In a Utopian world there should be only one church, but in reality, there's many different versions of the Christian church and the Black Church is uniquely different. To understand the Black Church you have to understand the story of Exodus -- Slaves were pointed to Ephesians: slaves obey your masters & they stumbled into Exodus - Moses told Pahraoh to let my people go. Enslaved Blacks were converted to the faith (Christianity) and then converted the faith itself -- transformed it into a liberating faith.

As I've heard on this channel before, two things can be true. One thing I know is that LOVE loves all, even if it doesn't agree with all. There are external writings (Pliny, Seutonius, etc.) by people who wouldn't benefit (in their minds), from the truth that Christ died, and rose again, whose writings verify that he in fact did. God being God, is the whole point as far as what it written. He's Sovereign and as much as people would like to think they were in control of what went into the Bible, they were not. God allowed in what he wanted in. Else, he's not God. That said, as one of you mentioned, Christ did not come to condemn the world (the people in the world), but to save it. He came not to bring peace between man, but a sword (because when you choose him, best know, you will be persecuted), but he did come to bring peace, reconciliation between God and man. Lastly, that was spot on, if you say you love God whom you have not seen, but hate your brother (gay, black, white, straight, muslim, jew, etc.), then you are a liar. Love draws. It accepts people where there are, it doesn't condemn. The only one, who died and rose was Jesus Christ. Thank you for the platform.

The Black Church is loving and celebrates diversity. The best ones that l know have many community and government leaders in their membership.
Pastors or Clergy will not marry same-sex couples.
That’s the issue and no amount of civic and social justice engagement will offset that fact.
Progressive white churches have the same issue.
There must be more candid conversations about sexual identity in the church. No one should be excluded from corporate worship.
The Body of Christ worships in spirit and in truth, John 4:23-24, therefore the focus is on living for Jesus Christ and not for self.
“To live is Christ and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21
Our bodies are a living sacrifice to die to flesh and live for God. This is where we see a disconnect in terms of what we think we know about the lives of gay people. This is where people don’t feel the transformative Love of Christ from His Believers.
Those are just my thoughts. Discernment is important because damaging trust is what makes The Church a poor witness to Jesus Christ and the Christian journey.
