That was the scene for me too. It was great but that scene turned it into god tier. I still watch it periodically cuz its so fucking cool. The build up. The choices. The transformations. I wish i could wipe my memory so i can experience it for the first time again.
That's a great point you make at the end. When people go full lone wolf while having friends and family to rely on, it's often because they don't want to burden or cause trouble for the people they care about, and they are so sure that what they're dealing with is gonna be too much for others. But also, I don't think Eren could have relied on the others in the end anyway, save for maybe Mikasa. I can't imagine his other friends would have been open to the idea of murdering most of the world's population. Even Mikasa, as dedicated as she was to him, would have been very conflicted. In the end they'd all fight him just like they ended up doing. Maybe Eren even tried to include them in his plan to activate the Rumbling in one of his many timelines. He did say he tried basically everything he could think of to change the outcomes but it always ended the same.
Some "darker and edgier" anime will subvert the "power of friendship" trope, and when Eren transformed after the death of the Levi Squad my thought was, okay, so now we get the "power of revenge" trope instead. But NO! Eren LOSES the fight against Annie! Levi and Mikasa barely get him back. The female titan lives to kill and terrorize again, and the heroes are forced to return home with major losses and their tails between their legs.
i agree a little. i think aot gets a little too much praise for "anyone can die." naw you will see many characters get introduced that will die but there are core people that once introduced wont die. im talking levi, conny, jean, mikasa, armin, annie, and others. the show does a barely decent job of hiding it. like how tf levi survive a thunder spear at close range when it can break through the armor on reiners titan?? the examples go on, and yeah sasha dies but apparently the creator was going to kill her in season 2 and only didnt because his editor liked her. the favorites never die. if the author had the balls to kill a favorite i would praise it more. also the rage transformation is cool but eren always gets his ass kicked early on lol in that way it subverted expectations at least. other protags usually do good after rage transforming but eren only fought well against other shifters after remembering how to fight as a human and not just roaring and punching shit.
sasha was a fav character among the fans and levi survived because he's simply an ackermann. hange who made the thunder spear said it, he survived because he's an ackermann which grants him way WAY better durability and endurance than an average person. even mikasa survived two thunder spears when she tried killing the colossal titans. the two thunder spears weren't as close as the thunder spear that was close to levi but the two thunder spears were close enough to mikasa to give her worse injuries than some minor injuries. she only got minor wounds because she's an ackermann.
@@scientifichistorian444 not really, annie would have managed to escape if not for mikasa cutting her fingers so she falls and eren lost track of the mission by that rage resulting in almost eating annie when they wanted to capture her
finally someone mentioned this scene, everyone finds themselves hooked by episode 5, obviously I enjoyed it up until here but this is the arc that really got me hooked, transformation was goated

He had a rage scene in his second fight with Annie, and he won
