HP Pavilion 15-p Series (Featuring Beats Audio...) Laptop Disassembly

  • This computer was given to me to see why it was running so slow. Ultimately it was a combination of Windows 10's background processes, Norton Antivirus, a lot of installed programs running in the background. After a painful disassembly process, the cloud has a silver lining with some space to upgrade the RAM and a few other components.
    I thought there were some interesting design choices with how this laptop was assembled and who it had in mind for the user. I'd love to hear your ideas in the comments below!

    Thanks a lot for this video, it was of great help. I've replaced the old slow HD with a newer SSD and it's gotten a new life! The superflat screw (in my unit there was only one) near the optical drive rim was a nightmare to remove... I had to cut it using a Dremel. My advice is to be extra careful with the screwdriver head you use.

    I'm glad I found this. I have a similar model, the HP Beats Special Edition 15-p030nr, and I've been trying to figure out what it's problem over the last week has been, first it refused to acknowledge any wi-fi capability and now it's randomly powering off and restarting. A friend mentioned I might wanna look inside and make sure nothing looks damaged with how random these two problems seem to be happening back to back, but I was getting annoyed trying to get it to open to see for myself while also too nervous to do anything without a guide

    Found this video really useful after a long time trawling through the internet. I have a very similar model but am having real difficulties getting out the flat screw (warranty screw?) for a tiny screwdriver underneath the cd drive. Do I just need to get a stronger screwdriver? Hi, thanks for the great video. I have the same laptop and my 1TB HDD is incredibly slow at running windows 10. Would adding a small SSD to run the programs while keeping cold data on the existing HDD be a good option. To me replacing the drive seems like a waist of a 1TB drive but I'm fairly new to this. Would adding an SSD be as simple as just plugging it into where the optical drive used to be connected?

    • @LaptopRetrospective
      @LaptopRetrospective  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Theoretically you could but you'd need a chassis to hold the drive where the optical drive would go. If you installed Windows on your SSD you'd notice a HUGE difference in performance.

      @godxdamnxcam 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LaptopRetrospective Ok so a few hours of google tells me the best option is to swap the HDD with a new SSD then put the old HDD in a caddy where the optical drive was, ok sounds good. • @LaptopRetrospective

    I bought this model without any OS to run Linux. That was a pain as the RTL8723BE WiFI adapter was not well supported by any distributions. So I went back to Windows (10) , which works well and is automatically activated.

    Hi,
    I have a Pavilion 15 P000; I inherited it and it's like new- hardly used. Very similar to the one in your video. Thank you for the very helpful video. Two questions:
    1. I was wondering where is the Bios Battery and I saw it when you turned over the mother board. Is it possible that mine also has a Bios Battery in the same place? Why would they put that in such a hard to get place? Seems like there should be a removable panel in the back to access. I was told that it's likely mine did not have a bios battery; but from looking at your video there may be one present.
    2. The other reason I wanted to take mine apart: I could not figure out how to disable the touch pad. In the device properties the "disable" button was greyed out. So I'm going to disconnect the cable. Let me know if you know of another way to disable the touch pad.
    Thank you!
