Re: Patrick Kelly's comment - first time I heard them was on the PBS desk concert - I held up a phone conference for nearly 10 minutes because I was not going to turn the radio off until I knew who they were.... My first thought was Simon and Garfunkel go flatpicking (with far mellower harmonies, and clever lyrics that are modern yet instantly nostalgic) . I just knew the lead was being played on a Martin along the lines of my beater 00-18, and wasn't too far off... These guys have become my favorite singer/songwriters.
I also heard them for the first time on the Tiny Desk Concert, thought they were interesting and nothing more. Months later, I listened a bit further, put them aside and it was nice. Eventually, I just kept listening more and more until I had their music on repeat and couldn't get enough of their vocals, lyrics, guitar tone and note choices. I am still taken with Kenneth Pattengale's playing - I cannot easily play single notes and sing and he does so with no greater difficulty than one would blink an eye. I was blown away to learn the J-45 Joey Ryan plays is a 1951 model and that Kenneth Pattengale's Martin is a 1954 model. Together, they are a far greater entity than the sum of their parts.

Pretty sure it was implied that the concert was live or was recorded live so Shazam wouldn’t have worked
Hence the need to hold up the phone conference :)

Any musicians know what practical purpose the handkerchief has, besides looks? Maybe to mute the strings slightly?
In the NPR video they did, he said it helps to stop fret buzz when his capo goes higher up the neck...
i love this.
Lovely. Really.
I dont think kenneth has a capo on his guitar in this number
and yet he clearly does -- it's the thing that looks like a capo
can you please post tabs?!

Anyone else ever think about Joey, balding with a comb over ?
