Last year I did what he said, I was a little fearful because this was my first time with raspberries. I did exactly what he said and this year they are loaded. The birds have noticed how wonderful they are, anybody out there nervous about trying, go for it you will be pleased.🤩

I cannot tell whether my raspberries are all year or the other type. With this method I will be able to tell. I had no idea why they fruited and dried. Now I know. And how do you stop the birds?

Last year I tried a net to keep the birds off the berries. The canes tangled with the net. A real mess. Better practice is to pick them twice a day.

Every time I prune my raspberries and blackberries, rather than discarding the part I pruned off, I plop it in a pot of compost and in a few weeks I have a new plant. Also, if te cane is too long and it can touch the ground, I take the tip and bury it in the ground and hold it down with a brick or huge rock. Again, in a few weeks, the tip has grown roots. I then cut it at a good length and again have a new plant. I also make sure I cut a cane down to the ground after it fruits. It makes it easier to prune as you go along.

Jameson Jones- I don't know you, and you don't know me, and this is very off topic to the vid, but as a fellow fan of this channel, I would encorage you to research the trends in housing prices in your area since the last recession.
If prices have shot up drastically, you may want to consider to keep renting until the next correction.
We are overdue for another one based on historical cycles, and there are some of the same warning signs as before the last one.
Two of my friends who didn't heed my warning in 2005 paid dearly.
Owning is great. I don't want to discourage you in any way. But the banks/lenders will not be honest with you on this topic. They get paid either way.

Hi I enjoy watching your posts, I’m in Melbourne Australia and have grown raspberries for 15 years. I cannot remember the variety I bought as it is too long ago, I don’t prune my canes and they grow to about 7’ tall. I harvest from Nov-May/June, I find that by leaving the canes they start producing fruit very early rather than having to grow first. I harvest around 600 grams every two days, and have to admit that after a few months I get tired of harvesting so I call in family/friends to come and pick their own. I dug up a few canes last year and placed into pots as I sold my property, we are currently in Spring here and the pot of raspberries is in full fruit already and I know that when I buy my next home I will have an area for raspberries as they will slowly spread over the years.
I commend you for your enthusiasm and generosity of time as you regularly post and wish you abundant harvests. I too follow Back to Eden philosophy if gardening and know first hand the benefits of using arborists mulch, I always applied it as soon as it was delivered and had magnificent harvests. My soil after 9 years under my care was over a metre deep of black soil teeming with worms. I stopped having a designated compost area and just buried my kitchen scraps each day under mulch, this would be gone within a few days as the worms would make light work of the compost.

Just did my own pruning - well, tip-pruning - of my blackcaps and blackberries. I also had to cut out a lot of dead blackberry canes - they don't seem to survive the winter for the most part, although I did get lucky with a few of the lower laterals, which might make me some blackberries this year.

So I’m not sure how to prune them lol. I purchased second year dormant bare root canes and they are just now budding leaves . They had already been pruned to about 2 foot or so by the vendor I just planted and mulched then.

Thanks for this information. I have ever bearing plants and have been pruning the new canes in the summer and couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting a fall harvest.

I'd never heard of pruning raspberries. It had never even occurred to me to attempt this.
