Thank You . Have to be the one of the best gardening videos on TH-cam. Great information. No unnecessary music or overly long intro. Great Voice. Flowing information with no rambling . Real cinematography techniques and editing. Very impressive. Great job.
Came here to say the same thing. This was the most direct, easy to understand, informative and well documented gardening video I've seen on TH-cam. Thank you so much for sharing your insights and resources.
Yes, would love to get my patch going. Struggling with deer and rabbits, squirrels and bears. Living in Montana is a challenge. Thinking 7 ft. fence. I've started several times and the deer got them every time. I now have some wild (bird) starts coming up and am going to fence and see how they do. Appreciate your advice!
FINALLY ! A video that goes well beyond just how to plant a certain plant and actually shows the actual results over an extended period of time. Well done, mate! :-)
I do not usually comment, but here it goes. You are very generous with sharing your knowledge on the care of raspberries. You did a great job demonstrating the different steps one must follow to achieve a good production of fruit. Thank you so much!!.
I had the same experience as her as a kid. My father used to garden a lot. Something that made me want to grow one myself. I’m dealing with grief of the loss of my father he died from stage 4 colon cancer and he used to garden a lot so this video is special to me thank you.
By far the best comprehensive guide to raspberries. Dont be fooled by other garden, and homestead TH-cam channels. I find that many videos spread some slightly wrong info and they aren't actually experts. This video is great and very accurate.
I’m starting my raspberries this year. I’ve never done this before, but your explanation (from planting to pruning, maintenance, pest preventions, variety, harvest timing) blew me away. I feel far more confident with your guide. Thanks for this comprehensive video. Subscribed!
Thank you very much. Just posted an update video. Have fun!

If you are going to grow both primocane fruiting and floricane fruiting varieties and you have room for two rows, you might plant just primocane type in one row and floricane type in the other row.....
I grew raspberries for years 25 years approx. We Never cut our stalks down below the height of our knees. We always had raspberries growing profusely. Throughout the whole summer. My mowed lawn cuttings were all I used to put under the raspberries.
Wow! Thank you, Evie. Beautiful name. I appreciate your VERY helpful tip and experience. You are awesome! I'm more excited now more than ever hearing your secrets, on top of this great video and with my initial interest I'm moving to the country. YUM!! :)
For all the work you do, l am amazed you use mirical grow. MG is not organic. Other fertilizers on the market will do the same job and not give your plants chemicals to harm your family.
@@nkita7363 I was very surprised to see green stalks when pruning in late January / early February, even when the stalk looked COMPLETELY dead. (there were also many dead ones too, of course.) So crazy. I am already seeing red buds at the top of my stalks!!! so excited.
Growing up we had a massive raspberry bush that my dad grew on accident. Best part of my Childhood. How he grew it: He made raspberry wine and threw the raspberry innards out in the yard. next he knew he had a bush that took up about a 5th to a 4th of the yard.
WE HAD A LARGE PATCH OF RASPBERRIES in central Wisconsin for 10 yr. that we lived there. Each fall we cut out all canes that bore and thinned out the new canes. We also piled all of our fall leaves to 2 to 3 ft. high in the whole patch. By spring they were compacted from snow and age. We never did anything else except picked abundant crops each year. Nothing better!!
Apres avoir regarder ce video, plus besoin d'en regarder d'autres. No unnecessary music, no wrong jokes. Everything on point! You deserve my Gardener Award '23!
I truly appreciate this video you shared with us..😊 I soaked up a bunch of knowledge 🥇 Thank you, thank you, thank you very much 😁 Many blessings to you and your family 🙏
Great synopsis and demonstration of what it takes for the home grower to have the best raspberries...but, I always recommend, if at all possible, to plant them with full access to both sides of the trellis. Another tip with your trellis wires is to run a length of braided nylon rope down the whole thing, twisting it a lot of times around the wire....then, when you need to attach the canes you can just open the rope a bit and slip the cane through. This holds them in place well but still allows movement and growth without pinching them off.
Took a class through our local extension office. I think I learned more from your short video than from the 12 weeks I went to class. Amazing. and empowerin
I've never seen such a wonderful video that spans years to show the actual growth of raspberries. I actually planted 2 plants today. I will see how they grow. Thank you for sharing
I'm a 49 ,never grew a garden, novice gardener due to having had a back injury and bad back all my life. I have have been looking for a Internet site, or You Tube video like this to help in my attempt to grow raspberries. It's a good comprehensive video with alot of information , preparing the soil, what kind of soil mix, fertilizer, how to thin / prune, the different varieties, suppliers, and additional info links all in one place. 5 years ago I tried to grow 2 raspberry plants I don't know what kind they were but had terrible results. 3 years ago ,I planted 4 more in a different location and have had slightly better results , but so far this year I'm still frustrated with my attempts, Hopefully this video and your others will help me.. Thanks.
I watched your videos a few years ago and put in a 40 ft row in my back yard last year. This will be my first year for the second year producers. Wife and kids were amazed last year at the production from the primo cane varieties. So happy with how this has turned out. I went with 8 varieties from Indiana plant and berry co.
Loved this. Straight to the point. You made this seem do able as I'm not really the green fingered type. Some youtubers impart half the information you did and make it seem twice as complicated. Raspberries, blueberries and lemons move the lymphatic system which is the waste removal system of the body, which works in tandem with the blood system or the nutrient delivery system and if you don't remove waste that's ground zero for chronic illness and disease. So you have probably helped a bucketload of people out with this very well put together video. Thank you brother.
Your raspberry patch looks beautiful! I learned a lot from you. Leafs on the ground can actually add much needed organic mulch. It’s a misconception that intense cleaning needs to be done.
That was by far one of the best videos I've seen on gardening. Thanks for all the thorough information. I will be power watching the rest of your videos. I love that you tell what to get, how to use it from start to finish and what you are seeing up close. Thanks a million it really helped!
Put up on my sight your pod cast on this growing raspberries. So much information that goes beyond and above many others posting information. I highly recommend others to watch your podcast. Excelent job. Great podcast Joel Curtis Alm
Superb video. Just about to start my first raspberry patch and after watching your tutorial, I feel very confident of success. The close ups illustrating various diseases, what to prune out etc. are especially useful. Glad I happened upon this video - thank you!
We had raspberry bushes gifted to us. I actually had several bags of softener salt bags of them . Never relieved at the time the treasure I received. Free mind you. Brought them home planting ( no clue how to ). Put several in one hole . Had more then what I knew what to do with them . Now I have shared 100’s myself with family and friends. That 17-20$ a plant in stores they also are happy -free ! Win win -pay it forward pleasures. I’m sure anyone that has raspberry bushes would gladly share some plants of there. They really multiply . Ive seen people used CD disc to detour the birds also. Love your video Thanks for great information . Happy gardening.
Growing up I use to pick wild raspberries. I never had trouble filling a two gallon pail every day I went out. No one ever pruned them. Never fertilized them. Never built trellises. The plants never disappointed in production. That was over 25 years ago. A few years ago I went back and the plants were still growing just as wild and producing just as well. Naturally the plants had grown outward in significant amounts because that is what they do if they are not controlled. Aside from maintaining your plants for looks and to prevent overgrowth I think just simply making sure they are watered when it is dry and preventing pests from killing them much of the other stuff is not needed once the plants are established.
Your right, I used to fill up on berries deep in the woods. Me and my friends thought it was our personal stash. There must have been hundreds of bushes, and in November we were sure to see plenty of black bears eating our stash, which was fine with us because by late Oct they got sour.
Raspberries grow like weeds. If you want to grow them you just need to plant them. Soon your whole yard will be full of them. No need to do any maintenance. Only need to do these steps if you want absolute maximum harvest.. but you'll get lbs and lbs from just a few plants.. and the following years you will have more than you could ever eat.
19:26 It's a good idea, a few years ago I wondered why my 60-year-old neighbor hung CDs from a string near her berry bushes and trees in her tiny yard! Birds would eat her berries and since the wind moves the CDs birds get scared and get bright flashes of light with the sun bouncing off of them. Nice video, thank you for all the great info. We bought 3 different varieties of berries a while back, excited to see how many berries we get. I also saw that amazing trellis video, great job! Your daughter is so cute!
My grandmother had a patch of this size, never done any planed pruning (she pruned them only if they got too large and unsightly), fertilizing of any kind except some fresh compost from time to time, no bug sprays. That patch produced more than we could eat every year for over a decade.
This is the most detailed information video on how to plant and care raspberries! I’m planning to planting them in Australia. We don’t have cold weather here. Hopefully the berries can still thrive. Thanks for your sharing! 🙏👍
I remember one time when I was 16 I was mowing the lawn for my aunt and uncle and at their house they had raspberries in the backyard and while I was mowing I kept stopping for raspberry snack breaks. Lol
Perfect timing on this as a suggestion. Bought 2 plants last year, one died, one buried itself into 8 other pots. I have 9 of them this year. Bought a double pack of different varieties this year so now have 9 of 1 kind and 1 of 4 others... looking to multiply and harvest a big crop this year. This video has a great amount of info to help with that. Keep it up. Thanks!
what an incredible teacher you are !!!!! You should make more videos . Lots more !!! I learned so much about RED raspberries. I bought black, gold, and red together but in their planting guide it said, NOT to plant red with the other two.... That is what prompted me to research about RED raspberries and I came around your video. I really learned a lot. Thank you !!!!
Much gratitude for putting this excellent, informative video together and sharing it.Planting my first Raspberry's today - this was a tremendous help. From the Mountains of Arizona - best to you and family.
I remember having a bush in my backyard as a child. I purchased a small steam from Walmart last year 2017. This year I see more leaves and some flowers. Thank you for all the information you put together in this video.
We certainly applaud your efforts to provide the good ol' ways of the good ol' days for your children. Me and wife are in our mid-40's and we miss those days when their was genuine fun like walking along the woods line in our area and finding ripe delicious blackberries and raspberries trying to get the nest ones before our friends did :)
Thank you from Aotearoa ( NZ ). Most informative video. I love growing for the home and been feasting off videos like yours. I too want our children to have precious memories of growing ones own food and their origins . Not from super markets.
Tremendous help on starting a patch. Thank you! TIP as a beek I would suggest spraying Neem at dusk if blooms are on any plants you put it on. By morning the oil will be less toxic to honeybees.
This is one of the most comprehensive videos I have seen on raspberries. Thanks for the great effort! I am not so sure I understand flurocane vs primocane.
Raspberries produce canes that live for 2 years. During their first year, the canes are called "primocanes". In the case of most raspberry varieties, the primocanes produce only leaves, no berries. The primocanes that survive the winter become "floricanes" during the second year. The floricanes produce flowers and then berries. Then the floricanes die. Some varieties of raspberries are "ever-bearing" -- The (first year) primocanes produce berries in the fall. The primocanes that survive the winter become floricanes, which produce more berries in the summer. So the same cane produces berries in the fall of the first year and in the summer of the second year (and then it dies).
@@tristaferencik746 -- He planted some "summer bearing" varieties. These varieties fruit on the primocanes during July. Once they finish fruiting, the canes are allowed to continue to grow, but when the canes finally die during the winter, the canes are cut down to the ground. The plant will produce new primocanes in the spring, and those canes will fruit again during the summer.
What an amazing video!! You are so awesome! Your beautiful daughter is so blessed to have a capable and dedicated dad like you! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!!
6:48 It's a good idea to spray right before night fall, at dusk. That way the chemicals is strongest right as the bugs start hide up under the leaves for the night. This long exposure better insures the eradication of those pests.
6:30 Neem oil is natural. It’s made using the leaves of the Neem tree which is native to Southeast Asia. It has useful medicinal properties (for humans). It makes sense that it would kill off pests.
It is a great tool for many things, but make sure you don't spray it on fruiting bodies! Ingestion is not recommended. Several case reports detail severe toxicity associated with ingestion of neem oil. In one case, ingestion of 20ml was sufficient to cause vomiting, convulsions, and toxic encephalopathy.[9] - Mishra, A; Dave, N (2013). "Neem oil poisoning: Case report of an adult with toxic encephalopathy". Indian Journal of Critical Care Medicine. 17 (5): 321-322. doi:10.4103/0972-5229.120330. PMC 3841499. PMID 24339648.
Tyriece it’s an ingredient in neem and usually caused by derivatives that are concentrated. azadactrine is the chemical. In some been products it’s concentrated I.e. azamax etc. neem is fine and can be washed off also. Spinosad and bacillus thringesis are other options for bugs like catapillars, aphids and worms etc.
Great job On this video. I just put in 40 raspberry plants this year. I'm adding 10 more, but we have a small urban hobby farm. Your ideas are right on the mark. My hobby farm is all organic, so I use the same methods I use OMRI fertilizers instead. I do use the Espoma brand and Allot of Down to Earth Single and Blended fertilizers.
I used pavers behind the raspberry plants so I can easily pick them on the back side. I put 24” stepping paver blocks right up to the garage foundation. Works great.
What zone are you in? What state? You're info is date related. I'm in North Texas. So when would I plant ? This is why I asked what zone you're in. Thank you.
I have watched so many videos about pruning raspberries and this is the best video with so much info ! I appreciate everything u mentioned in this video I had question after question and you answered all of them and many questions about other things ! Thank you for the info ! Awesome job
Great information! Wish i had seen your video first- i bought 6 heritage plants!! Didn't even know I needed a trellis!. I was wonderinfg why the plants were laying on the ground! Well my husband will build that for me and we can always switch up varieties in the years to come. Love your info about deer and bird control. Thanks for the info. Can't wait to eat some raspberries!!
Thanks for this video mate. This video is the one that really got me interested in berries, so much so that I've gotten quite a few plants and made a berry patch for my girlfriend. I watched it a long time ago and always come back to it every now and then.
This was a fantastic video, thank you. I go to a TH-cam video to get great information, not some lousy background music and time-consuming introduction. I've watched well over two dozen videos on raspberries and this one is an order of magnitude better than any other one. Congrats, keep up the excellent work!
Great comprehensive video, thank you. I learned a lot. I have my raspberry bushes on the south side of my garage, just like you! I’m going to get some new varieties so I can extend my growing season. Thanks for your advice on tasty varieties. Raspberries are my favorite part of the summer garden.
Hi, wow! your video was the most helpful and well done one on raspberries that I have viewed. Thank you, I have it bookmarked and will be watching it several time to make use of all the info.
Thanks for posting this video it was very informative and insightful. Can tell you put a lot of time into making this. Im inspired to start my own raspberry patch!!
Your video was excellent, thank you so much. I'm going to buy some of the varieties you have and see what happens. I pulled out a plant a few weeks ago that I had put into the ground last year (my first foray into the raspberry) because it was close to a fence my husband wanted to replace. I put it into a 5 gallon bucket as I was going to replant it and within days it was looking so poorly I thought I killed it. It was so disappointing. My husband said it was gone but I refused to give up on it, I cut off all the canes, gave it some water, put it into a shady place and now the little thing is growing back. Oh happy day.
Wow! I never knew there were so many raspberry varieties, as the standard red-colored berry is the one found in supermarkets. A black raspberry as well and even a yellow one, thanks man it definitely pays to have your own berry patch! :)
Ok, you talked me into it, I just ordered 9 raspberry plants from Indiana berry, I'm going to give it a try. I hope to enjoy this with my kids as well. Fantastic video btw. God bless.
I want to thank you for such a good instructional inspiring video. I did it. I ordered exactly your berries from nourse and planted in your exact order, except for one they didn't have. Mine aren't very big, but I am starting to get some berries already. I made a good patch (mulch, no weeds etc) and planted in Manure etc like you said, and did a trellis. My kids are loving it. Wish I had done this years ago. Thank you again.
fantastic information. Thank you so very much. I have been growing raspberries for the last 4 years (or maybe 5 yrs ?) but they do not look anything like yours. I have been "winging" it. Thank you for your tips!
GREAT instructional and inspirational videos for those of us just "newbies" to raspberry growing and production. I especially enjoyed the ideas for the cross shaped trellis and have mine all built, just need to wait for the IOWA spring to roll around so I can get the trellis "planted" as well!
40 seconds in and this video - the berries - the daughter - your providing this experience for her - is just beautiful.

I bought black, gold, and red together but in their planting guide it said, NOT to plant red with the other two.... That is what prompted me to research about RED raspberries and I came around your video. I really learned a lot. Thank you !!!!
I love the simplicity of the video and well detailed information and tricks against wildlife and critters. Thank you.
Much gratitude for putting this excellent, informative video together and sharing it.Planting my first Raspberry's today - this was a tremendous help. From the Mountains of Arizona - best to you and family.
Hello from Canada! You are awesome in the way you explain things and your video is right on point ! Great video!
Wow, that was very comprehensive. Excellent job, I will watch this more than once. All the best
Thank you from Aotearoa ( NZ ). Most informative video. I love growing for the home and been feasting off videos like yours. I too want our children to have precious memories of growing ones own food and their origins . Not from super markets.
Useful video to watch, and I like the fact that you have half a dozen varieties, which makes for better pollination, and a higher number of fruit.
@@kevinbyrne4538 thank you for the explanation! So why did he cut all of the canes down in the Winter?
@@tristaferencik746 -- He planted some "summer bearing" varieties. These varieties fruit on the primocanes during July. Once they finish fruiting, the canes are allowed to continue to grow, but when the canes finally die during the winter, the canes are cut down to the ground. The plant will produce new primocanes in the spring, and those canes will fruit again during the summer.
The most pampered raspberry garden on earth 😜
What an amazing video!! You are so awesome! Your beautiful daughter is so blessed to have a capable and dedicated dad like you! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!!
This guys a guru on rasberries.
This is overwhelming, so much info about so many different types of rasberrirres, need to watch this video a few times
Great video! My first year planting raspberries and this video is very helpful. Also your daughter is so cute!
Thanks for sharing your raspberry patch. Very educational and inspirational
Tyriece but the make toothpastes out of it it is all my mother uses
Thanks for showing step by step over the course of the year!
The best video in every aspect, informative, video quality etc. Great job and thank you.
Raspberries are good for the womb. So you’re also helping heal your daughter as well ☺️🙏🏾
Great video! Thank you for the information on pests and diseases in particular, as well as the info on bees.
This is one of the most intelligent gardening videos I've ever watched,
Such a great father!
Wow! I didn't know growing raspberries was so complicated! Great info for furture growing ventures! Thanks doll...
Such an amazing raspberries garden! Great job mate. Thank you for putting a lot of efforts into this video, we did enjoyed watching it. Cheers
wow!! super organized ! Great video for Raspberries!! thank you!
You’re the man, and seem like a great dad too- thanks for the video.
Thank you, I have it bookmarked and will be watching it several time to make use of all the info.
sally rosser Thanks for the great feedback. Glad you liked!
Thanks for posting this video it was very informative and insightful. Can tell you put a lot of time into making this. Im inspired to start my own raspberry patch!!
AWESOME video on those beautiful raspberries, thanks for sharing!!!
The BEST video I have found on growing raspberries. Thank you!!
Such a great and well organized video. Your raspberry plants look amazing!
This has got to be the most informative video! I appreciate it so much!
Wow! I never knew there were so many raspberry varieties, as the standard red-colored berry is the one found in supermarkets. A black raspberry as well and even a yellow one, thanks man it definitely pays to have your own berry patch! :)
Planning to start a raspberry patch and this is probably the best video I have found. Packed with information. Thanks so much!
I planted a few raspberry plant this year. This was very informative, thanks!
Outstanding video. Can’t possibly express how much I’ve learned from this one video. Thank you so much for all your work. God Bless!
Thanks so much for the nice comment. God bless you too
Awesome video. Great production job. Good information about pH and soil prep, how to grow. Well done!
Best help I’ve found on the internet! THANK YOU!
I watched the whole video without skipping thank you i was looking for a guide on my raspberry plants❤️😭😭
Excellent video. Nice work on your patch and very clear and helpful demonstration/teaching. Thank you!
GREAT instructional and inspirational videos for those of us just "newbies" to raspberry growing and production. I especially enjoyed the ideas for the cross shaped trellis and have mine all built, just need to wait for the IOWA spring to roll around so I can get the trellis "planted" as well!
