Igor, what a nice video. Racism is real and seen even in Canada. However, I must stress that most Canadians are NOT racist. My understanding here in Canada is that most Canadians are just cautious of immigrants because they are not sure of their background (History). To me, that is very normal. Regarding your experience with your previous boss, I can tell you that this goes on as well in our home countries. From my home country, I have experienced this first hand but concluded that gaining experience with delayed gratification is a wise investment. During the just-concluded Canadian election, I heard a lot of negative comments directed toward immigrants. I was very sad, but I made up my mind not to be bothered by such distractions. Again, you are right, some Immigrants are racist and discriminate against other immigrants. Crazy, but not surprising. Because of this, I have concluded that discrimination and racism is NOT a Caucasian thing but a Human problem from within the mind. If people are happy within themselves and not miserable, then happiness spills to others with no judgemental thoughts. However, if people are miserable within themselves, racism, discrimination, and judgemental thoughts will begin to spew out. Cheers.
Totally agree with you, this is more of a human problem. Also, although there is no hard evidence, I do suspect there is a link between (intentional) racism or any kind of discrimination and personal happiness.

The amount of discrimination have seen here is unbelievable, worst kind of racists, in the closet racists, say nice things in front of you trash talk when you leave...For your own sake, don't make this expensive mistake. Engineers driving cabs, or even as factory workers, architects delivering pizza, dentists driving Uber... that's what awaits you, extremely unfair system. Immigrant exploitation is this country's largest industry.
Discrimination happens anywhere and everywhere, not only in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK and USA. Even in your own country. This is a touchy subject. Don't want to elaborate on this topic as someone will always criticise you no matter which way you swing to.
@Jeffrey Samson Nope you are wrong. I've been there and you are judge more on your character than in North America. ANd yes, English speaking countries there are more people with prejudgement than anywhere in the world...
Sup Man. I'm from Brasil and my family dreams to go and make a life in Canada. For Immigrants to succeed or to avoid all the issues and challenges with racism in the work force is to start your own business unfortunately. Yes it can be difficult at first but it can be very rewarding. Its not just a Canadian problem, racism is everywhere especially in 1st world countries with good economies.
I wanted to do farming or childcare.I feel like it will be better to come in with enough funds to live for a whole year and get going once you land so that you have systems in place by month two.Anyone here know about the farming part?Or getting land in Canada?
The cool thing about Finland is that you can go to the tax office and check anyone's income. It's a public information. So you always know how much your co-workers make
@@abdulrahmanmohammad1055 yeah, but there are other ways to fight that. At least with a system like this you can always check whether you're being paid fairly in comparison to your colleagues
Hi Igor, I really enjoy your videos, always find them informative. Finally someone is truthful about the real challenges in Canada. Ppl always seem to make it out to be a land of unicorns and fairies. Really good to know both the upsides as well as the real day to day challenges
I was crying watching your video. I can relate so much to what you talked about. I know that it can be very tough for you too even when you are a White man. The part when you said you had to bite your throat to get what you have today got me so emotional (in a very empathetic way). I am an Asian immigrant living in Australia. I have been here for 13 years but recently because of Covid and Trumpnism I have coped so much more racism than ever before. I am sad that I spent nearly half of my life here but I still don't feel like I belong here. I am married to a White Australian and have 2 biracial children, but I still feel like an outsider. When I am out in public with my husband, (White) people often choose to interact with my husband only and ignore me completely. I'd rather have blantant racism in my face than having to deal with subtle racism (exclusion) like that. Subtle racism hurts much more. I have become quite depressed because I feel hated and unwelcomed here. When I am out on the streets lots of people just glare at me unnervingly and I feel their gazes are like arrows throwing at me. I used to work with an English lady who migrated to Australia and she told me she coped a lot of discrimination too. She said she is fine until she opens her mouth (her accent). Racism is not a Caucasian thing. The reason why some people say White people are racist because, Western countries are the only countries (at the moment) that are multicultural, and often times in those Western countries, White people are a majority or a doninant racial group. Because of that, statistically speaking, most racists in Western countries are White. If any other racial group was the dominant group there will be the most number of racists from that group too. I feel you and I can see your emotions and the hardships that you have encountered as an immigrant/minority. Life is hard, and the more different we are to the average person of the country that we are living in, the tougher it is for us. Some LGBT people feel they are not accepted in society and sadly some of them have committed suicide. I will never take my life, I will keep on living, but my soul is weary and I am desperately longing for a place where I can fit in and feel like a part of the community. I know when you are different you have to work harder to fit in, but I just feel so tired. I just want to find a place where I can melt right in and so my mind and soul can heal. I wish you all the best and hope to hear some words from you too.
But is this racism coming from educated people though? Could it be a particular area in the city where people have this attitude? It can't be like that everywhere in Australia. I would just move to some other city. And it is obviously very important to choose your company wisely.
What you say is exactly true. Although Canada boasts that they don't have any discrimination, that is highly questionable. Of course, they don't have it on the road while USA some times have it on the road. But Canada has it beyond the road (jobs, opportunities, luxuries etc.) while USA doesn't most of the time have it at the professional level, in industries, jobs etc.
Thanks you for the video Igor. I'm an immigrant myself, and I feel that discrimination and even hate will keep on growing in Canada as long as the government continues to let housing prices going crazy. They're being irresponsible to bring that much immigrants and abandon them to their faith when there's less and less affordable and available housing, and it makes both immigrants and Canadians angry.
Discrimination is everywhere ! In Thailand for example people who do not look SE Asian have to pay a different price (a lot higher) to enter such things as national parks etc. Truly open discrimination. Things will probably never change in our lifetime, however I would say as an immigrant to a western country try not to have a "chip on your shoulder" (attitude) about it. Try your best to integrate with the locals and not to stick to only friends from your own country etc. Try to wear the local style of dress and celebrate holidays like the locals (i.e put up Christmas lights on your house and wish people "Merry Christmas", even if you are not Christian). Be understanding of events like the "Pride Parade" and do not speak out against such things even if it goes against your own religion. The saying is "when in Rome"! ........... I truly believe this is they key to reduce discrimination and help an immigrant settle successfully.
This is true about immigrants and in other countries too, I have experienced this in every job that I went , I have an accounting degree and they also demand from me to clean their business because they can't go out of the mentality that immigrants women started to work as cleaning houses/businesses , they give you more responsibilities with less money, and they hire someone that really don't even want to work ( ex. they dont even know how to use a computer ) and pay them more just because is from the country, and then they wonder why the business has not profits ??😅 because my name is very different from the native people, I have even experienced business owners calling me for a interview to tell me "go back to your country " !!!! In an other one "we don't hire people from your country because you get married and have children" !!!! They called me to go to a interview to tell me things like that!!! 🤓
Bessy Hsn this is so messed up! These people are just plain ignorant, so much so that they are not even capable of understanding their stupidity.. I wonder if it is legal in Canada to turn on recording device during interview and sue them if they say things like that? Probably would need their consent....
I always say we are immigrants of the world, it doesn't belong to any of us! We are passersby, and this is what makes the world fascinating and vibrant to be surrounded by differences of culture, language, customs, but unfortunately most closed minded people see it as a threat. We all will die one day, let's simply be kind to one another! Planet earth will continue beyond our own existence....
Hi Igor, very good video, deep topic. I live in Quebe for 3 years and yes... well... But Canada is our home, we are hard working and we will achieve success for us and our children. Thank you for your amazing channel! Дякую!
You get discriminated if you are: red, yellow, white, black, fat, skinny, freckled, handicapped, have a diastame, have a bald head, too old, too young, have an accent, too tall, too short, have bad breath, wear glasses, have body odor, wear too much perfume/ after shave, wear Versace, wear Goodwill, walk to work, drive to work, eat salads, eat vegan, don't eat, fast, have a tic, chew your lip, chew your teeth, chew gum, fart. Welcome to the human species.
I am not reading any comments now while I am typing mine, and I am going to watch this video right after I left toxic environment at my very first work in Toronto, Canada (even remote creative work as a web designer :)). I didn't know that it was possible to talk to me with a raised voice when I completed all my work on time and redesigned 3+ websites. My supervisor, a local Canadian, openly said that she understood why I made a decision to leave our boss. I experienced discrimination and I got emotional support from local Canadians at the same time. Creative work can't be done in a negative environment and the words like... "I accept everyone: gays, lesbians, immigrants..." out of topic were absolutely too much. Even though I can be only defined as an immigrant out of 3 words my boss pronounced, I have a feeling that Canada has even more to tell, something that is not told yet. Let's watch your video and see what you think.
Its a pity that a beautiful country like Canada experiences all these forms of discrimination in the twenty first century, but I think eventually over time things will change for the better. Thank you for this informative video Igor. Much appreciate.
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼Agreed. Even born and raised they are still immigrants They will never love them they hate them because they are immigrants. Only few people don’t care. What makes me laugh sometimes they fall in love with immigrants which drives the parents crazy😂😂😂
Yes Australia was a jail and created for convicts from England, but today is most likely the best country for living from the whole Commonwealth, much better than Canada, better weather, better salary, Health system is also slightly better and education is not bad as well. Very lay back mentality of the people, opportunity for jobs and much what has been said in the video is applicable in Australia as well. Comparing to Canada I would say that in Australia is big benefit to be European origin rather than Asian or Indian. It easier to get better job in some industries. Also in the Australian Government are not many non white politicians. If I would have a choice I would prefer Australia for immigration simply easier life down under.
Nice video. I was born in Canada. My parents are immigrants that came to Canada back in the 70s. I think this happens in most companies. I experienced something like that. I ended up leaving that company and getting my DZ licences and making more money. But I can say I also believe that the reason for cheap labour in Canada is because the economy is not good. If the economy was good companies would pay more money.
As a persian guy in his early thirties, I 100% agree. I have had the same experience and seen the same things. I have lived here for 13 years. Mind you, I've probably had it even worse since I don't look European like you. I always thought success was based on merit here. But I've only realized that this is not the case in the past year through a lot of thinking...
Before I got my first job in Canada, I visited English cources from a local multicultural association. So, teacher said "you, Russians, sounds rude, and we're think you're spies. You'll never find a job because we all think you're dangerous Russian spicies and hackers"(I'm programmer). It was painful to listen it. Next, she said me that I can't visit lessons because I missed several (because I visited job interviews), and she forced me to leave cources. I tried to complain to her, but my complain was ignored by local multicultural administration. It was about 1.5 years ago, but I still feel injustice. It's only one case of discrimination that I seen here. Never seen it again - in job, in hobbies, etc. It's so funny because multicultural association exists to help people. And I don't understand why Russian immigrants in her mind worse than other immigrants. Maybe it's difficult to hire English native speakers teachers. I don't know. But maybe better to not hire anybody instead of hire similar rasicts? What do you think?
That's sad. I used to think only brown and blacks faced these kind of things but that's not true. I think the only solution to racism is become successful so that these racist people dont even matter
@Kate M.H. Hi Kate, what happens you ask? WAR, Jihad....and my God is better than your God and I will kill you if you don't believe like I do....just as in the crusades, and other religious wars. Sick isn't it.
Igor; I’m a Black Person born and raised in America. I’m originally born and raised near Los Angeles California to be exact. Your story is exactly my story in California. The only difference is, I was discriminated against in favor of others who are; White, Especially Asian, Especially Hispanic/Latino, Especially Women for the most part. Especially the pretty ones, I was also discriminated in favor of those who are Homosexual or other Alphabet letters. Being a Straight Black Man who isn’t a Rich and Famous Celebrity in So California is Guaranteed to be discriminated against. In LA California, the only type of Immigrants that’s preferred are usually from; China, Korea, Philippines, or any Hispanic/Latino country; Especially Mexico, Guatemala, or El Salvador. You can’t even be a White Person from Europe and get the same preferential treatment except in certain situations. Honestly, you’ll probably still be treated better than a Black American Man who’s not LGBTQABCDEFG, (not Woman) because Women are usually given a pass. You’ve heard here from Me. That’s Los Angeles California for You.
You can't seriously be talking about discrimination, and then refer to the LGBTQ+ community as "Other Alphabet letters" and "LGBTQABCDEFG, (not Woman)". Maybe have a look at your own mindset before discriminating against others. Whether your black or white, gay or straight, you will encounter adversity somewhere through life. I am a white male living in South Africa, at the bottom of one of the jobs I applied for it said: "White males need not apply". Whites also get murdered on farms just because they are white. Now, I can cry over this like a little bitch, or push through. Good luck to you @Neck of the Woods Updated, the world is a tough place, and has no more place for racism than it has for sexism (be it straight, trans, gay, Bi, or queer). Plus, if people choose the hot female instead of you, is that really the kind of company you want to work for? Peace...
Wolff; I no longer work for that company that I mentioned once I realized that it was extremely unfair to work at. Also it’s True. The ABC community has the real Power in California. Look it up. I even had to pretend that I was Gay to get a Job because I was that desperate at the time. Of course, I didn’t stay long at that Job. It’s true.... if you don’t like it, oh well. That’s your problem. I’m just speaking Facts.

As a Canadian there is no doubts that racism exists in this country but then I believe it exists in every country in the world. There will always be those that hate. The good news is that it's a small part of the population. I was raised to treat others like you would like to be treated and it has helped me my whole life. It's all about respect.
Your right about each individual's experience is different regardless of where they are from. Because, we are all slightly different even though we come from the same country.
I work in a foreign country as well but with a lot of other nationalities. Locals are very good to us, but foreign coworkers always try to bite each other. I think your experience is not so bad at all, try to work in a company where are mostly foreigners while being a foreigner as well. So many new immigrants are super jealous of each other.
Worst thing about this (to me)... some minority, regulated immigrant groups (especially those who come from anglo nations) are fine, as cultures and languages are the same. It's the other vast amounts that overpopulate, offer near enough nothing to Canada, are coming from poor countries and don't speak English to a certain standard. I'm from the south of England, white, educated to a certain extent and speak English fluently in a southern accent (I'm English & Irish), anybody know if there is genuine dislike/discrimination towards white Brits/Americans/Irish?
Prophecy 707 How u can call them racists if they’re of the same race as the discriminated (in his case)? Lol Think of some other name like nationalists or something.

Discrimination is rife in Quebec. If you are an anglophone in Quebec you are a second class citizen. I’ve lived in Quebec for 12 years, can’t wait to retire to move to English speaking Canada. I was excited moving here from the UK, and didn’t understand Quebec’s wish to leave Canada, now if Quebec was to leave I’d be proud and relieved to show my Canadian passport to enter any other Province of this great land. 🇨🇦
I understand your struggle, but keep in mind that same goes to francophones who have English as a second language in the English speaking parts of Canada (it's my case).
Halk Arslane the difference is however that here in Quebec it’s official policy to make English speaking citizens second class. Are you someplace nice, consider a swap?
They say, in every market there is a mad person. To me as an immigrant I faced it at different levels here in Calgary, but still I’m focused and mind my own business. I would say keep going Mr. Igor one ❤️
Hi. Everywhere is a little bit of racism, but who is serious and strong and a good worker can succeed everywhere in every continent. I don't feel any difference. On the contrary I feel much more stronger to succeed in a foreign place . I wish you all to be strong !!!
I am a professional with a DDS degree, CPR, first aid and AED certification, but guess what? I am from Mexico, and drug cartels here do not want anybody to succeed, so, it does not matter how much you work, they will never let you succeed. Anyways, i fully agree with your comment.
Hi igor Same problems in United Kingdom..I might think there is loads of things to learn during ours immigrant life ..some people are good ..some people are bad and all we are a mixture of culture and sometimes some people get frustrated how we are doing better then them ....
Great video Igor, I think the problem is that you are based in the wrong part of canada. Calgary (Alberta in general) is extremely conservative and the lack of jobs nowadays and low cost of oil makes them even more frustrated then before. From what I can tell you from living in Toronto, its a city based on immigrants and people are kind to each other.
Is it there some wage/salary gap between immigrants and Canadian-born people? Is it possible to get a job with an University degree from our country (Argentina)?
Sounds like you got here the same time as me. Start at the bottom. Apply for things like retail, fast food, warehousing, anything at all. You may have to work your way back up to where you were previously. You have to start somewhere and it may not be as high as you are used to, however you will get there in time.
My girlfriend just finished a month working for DQ as a part time worker to save for school. Why would they not hire someone who wants to stay long term? They specifically told her at interview that they encourage long term workers.

Big F to all haters
Mostly we want controlled immigration. We also want not too many in too short a time. Immigration in the short term ( maybe the first ten years for some) costs us a shit load of money. We want immigration. We want immigrants to be grateful and we want them to be positive about Canadian culture. We don't want people promoting garbage like Sharia law or political Islam. We want them to uphold our customs and values so when a person who comes here has good values including good work ethics we are off to a good start. Women and men are equal in rights and in the law. Welcome to people who immigrate and are going to build by embracing Canadian values. Majority of Canadians accept and embrace you unless you reject us. What I am saying is come here to share in our country as an equal with responsibility towards the country. That is respected.☺️
I can feel your pain, bro :( I had similar experience of discrimination when I worked in Germany. It's so unfair and impossible to fix. During the time I was in Germany, I had a feeling that I am a servant just because I was born in Ukraine :(
😀 it's very true immigrants are discriminated against. and thanks for bringing the this to the foreground. I have heard the argument that I have taken the jobs from other Canadians . We have to talk to our bosses and if we aren't going anywhere in a job move on I find a other job greetings from a fellow Albertan
Its clear to me that people need to get over things like people wearing things on their head or they use their hands to eat or they eat fish with the head and the eyes in place, stuff like that. Yes of course, there are things like not cleaning up after yourself or spitting or pissing or touching stuff that is not yours. Like Michael Jackson said, - make it a better place , for you and for me , and the entire human race.
Racism is a by-product of narrow mindset. You experience racism everywhere be it on the basis of Country, race, religion, color you name it. No matter if you are in your own community/country, or at any place in abroad, you will face it. We feel bad only when we are at the receiving end, but many a times knowingly or unknowlingly we are the ones who trigger such comments.

What u said in the video is not only in Canada its everywhere, in my country businessmen prefer immigrants and foreigners over the citizens i cant get a higher position job because its taken by foreigners, its really frustrating and disappointing 💔
Igor, do you think you could have professionally and personally grown more to your potential had you stayed in Qatar instead of Canada, considering all those forms of discrimination that are becoming more prevalent. I'm only stating from what I've read on the Internet so far, but it seems as though Qatar is working on creating better environment and protection rights for foreign workers. Again, I don't know to what extent this is accurate though. What are your views on this? :)

If you really wanna know racism go to India!!!

For Immigrants to succeed or to avoid all the issues and challenges with racism in the work force is to start your own business unfortunately. Yes it can be difficult at first but it can be very rewarding. Its not just a Canadian problem, racism is everywhere especially in 1st world countries with good economies.
True. Start investing in real estate. That's the best path for many immigrants.

Well said. I would address the problem in a similar way too.
It is normal and fair.As a state you don't waste your subventions grabed from your own citizen as tax payers,on the tickets price for the foreigners.
This is true about immigrants and in other countries too, I have experienced this in every job that I went , I have an accounting degree and they also demand from me to clean their business because they can't go out of the mentality that immigrants women started to work as cleaning houses/businesses , they give you more responsibilities with less money, and they hire someone that really don't even want to work ( ex. they dont even know how to use a computer ) and pay them more just because is from the country, and then they wonder why the business has not profits ??😅 because my name is very different from the native people,
I have even experienced business owners calling me for a interview to tell me "go back to your country " !!!!
Hispanics are like that.
Well said! :)
Always here for you Igor. Greetings from Belgium.

Живу и работаю в ОАЭ, уже 6 лет, все что ты перечислил, я испытал на себе. Но, когда я работал в Украине, с 18 до 23 лет, не скажу, что даже земляки относились ко мне лучше.
I know what these kind of racist people need, they need God in their lives.

Sir, You are good human being
Mostly we want controlled immigration.
