I use gypsum to get my soil to 5.8 pH, works great, make sure if you get powdered that it is actually all powder and not full of rocks unless you want slow release. Pellets are okay too, I like to let them break down in water. Organic best pH down, because strong, organic, plant based.

I’m renovating my garden because there was an 8-10 layer of clay under ~10 inches of top soil, after 2 years the soil has become saturated and is now ruined. I’ve taken all the ruined soil and clay out and I’m now left with a 20 inch excavation plus a soakaway which I have centred in the middle. I’m putting down a layer of drainage gravel on the base and having that channel towards to soakaway, and on top of that premium quality top soil. I’m thinking 8 inch layer of gravel and 12 inch layer of soil with a pourous membrane separating them. Would this be ok to grow grass on? Many thanks
pH means potential of Hydrogen. The amount of available Hydrogen ions. This will affect the reactivity of the liquid. Acidic and alkaline = more and fewer hydrogen ions compared to pure water at room temperature. Temperature also affects the hydrogen potential.
Great video. I hate to be that guy, but a couple of corrections.... at the beginning. Human stomach pH is around 4. It is carnivores such as dogs that can dissolve bones that have stomach pH of 1. Also Magnesium Hydroxide (Milk of magnesia) is not an antacid. It is a laxative. An antacid would be something like Tums. Apart from that, brilliant information delivered.
I like when the guy explains this to the woman,. It's just so much more comprehensible than when scientists explain it in a very abstract or theoretical way.

hi, you can use acidic fertilisers such as ammonium salts or iron sulphate. alternatively moss peat, compost or pine needles will all bring the pH down.
Hi there, I think as most easy you can use the white vinegar if you wanna low your soil pH. Also if use the vinegar cheapest way. For example I'm using vinegar to my blueberries. any no problem
They did mention a number of ways to raise and lower PH. If you're talking about your cannabis growing solution, Liquid PH Up/Down, it's probably because that's made for PH equalization of water, not soil.

not that simple.... lowering ph still makes certain micronutrients bound (not bio available)... acid loving plants like blueberries etc technically are thriving in low redox (low oxygen) .. the common mistake is to intepret low PH as low PH as opposed to a result of (or in combination) of low redox (EH). Addressing EH in combination with PH by restricting oxidizing inputs will ensure much more nutrients are bio-available
Good teachers and educators simply have no time for talks and theories. Instead, they will rather give a demo or show you the practical aspects of science and in this case gardening
I recommend looking up the GCSE bitesize or a similar school revision page on acids and bases (bases make things alkaline) for a basic overview (pun intended). in short, an acid has lots of H+ ions which can cause damage which we coloquialy call "burns". a strongly alkali solution has lots of OH- ions which can also cause "burns". when we mix the two together (H+ and OH-) we get H20 (AKA water).
er very few plants like more than 8.5, agricultural crops enjoy 6 to 6.6. So the "sweet spot between 7 and 14" is not correct. A pH of 12 ( bleach ) will do as much damage as a pH of 1. I did so want to learn something here. What I learned was not to watch silly youtube videos on this topic

Idk about the soil but the water we get in Roland ok is high in ph, per water test from petco . how will that effect the soil?

They could die for many reasons, too dry or wet are likely.

This is only a rough guide only. Ca % in the base saturation, would be a better guide. As Ph is made up of a number of elements.
