It's great the way she always sort of flicks the lips open one more time if the word ends in a consonant like "time" and "friend", very subtle but really brings it to life, also great voice.
@@karmasicy4002 actually, since the final e is silent, in effect the word DOES end with a consonant, but you want to hear the release at the end of the "M" so you understand the whole word.
does anyone else think Julie's joice would be perfect for a Disney fairytale princess or similar character. Amazigly beautiful voice, her tone gives each note some great personality to the song
My best friend and I both agree that this song is the ultimate test of whether or not you really loved someone that you dated/got engaged to/divorced. If you can listen and not cry, then it wasn't love. If you cry, then it was love.
Love Julie Atherton - fantastic Kate Monster if ever I saw one! Saw this 4 times in the West End. One of my favourite musicals ever and VERY under-rated. LOVE IT!!!
Julie is awesome. This is such a touchy song, and Julie really gets the acting done and really convinces us as Kate. She's awesome and no one can deny that!
whenever i listen to the original soundtrack i have to come and listen to this to remember how it should be done. I can't count the times I went to watch Avenue Q specifically to watch Julie. I have seen this show in four countries and the number of actresses i have seen play Kate is almost double figures and Julie remains head and shoulders above them all. Brilliantly performed.
I see the puppet work as STELLAR in this performance. The mouth movements are spot on, down to the ending of the notes and breaths before bigger vocal pushes. Love it! Great!
i cant believe people have actually disliked this video! I personally love this song and it really touches my heart! And Julie here has really caught the essence of Kate Monster. beautiful!
I like Stephanie and Julie because they both brought something new to the character. Their performances are certainly not the same, but the differences that they gave to the role both are perfect for Kate Monster. I really couldn't choose which one would be my favorite.
"nasally" is a common misconception. There is nothing nasal about her singing; there is no air coming through the nose.(A good example of nasally voice would be Tommy Chong.) However, the synthetic vibrations of that middle register is felt forward in the face. Her voice should be described as nothing else but a healthy belt.
I was actual looking for the original, so I listened to it for like 5 seconds and closed it. 1 sec after closing it, I realised that she actually pulled it of great and now it's part of my favorites. It's strange how fast you judge videos after 6 years of TH-cam.
Watched her do this in the west end and it was the moment Avenue Q became genius for me. I'd already laughed so hard I wanted to throw up, but then out came Julie and sang this. Made the whole audience fall helplessly in love with her and reduced me to tears. She'll always be my Kate-Monster for that.
julie's new album - NO SPACE FOR AIR - Will be available on 06.06.10 Only a few spaces left for her launch concert at the Delfont Room, Prince of Wales Theatre - 7pm - 6th June 2010.
this one video alone made julie arthenon my favorite kate monster puppeteer even BEFORE stephanie d'abruzzo whom i admire VERY much. julies voice is so beautiful in this video that even if she hit a flat note the next note would cover it.
Straight into my heart... loved the song before.. I am in a situation...I have this song present all the time..... and her interpretation is amazing...
@phorevarjb @JezabelCumming Guys, guys, guys! Relax. This version is sung by Julie Atherton. Stephanie D'Abruzzo was a member of the original cast. Stephanie has short, dark hair. Julie has longer, lighter brown hair. They are both excellent singers and are two separate people from two separate productions.
@felicity1titanic that's the brilliance of the show. Its that combination that really absorbs the audience, sending your eye back and forth from puppet to puppeteer searching for emotional connection to either or both of them.
I only have one complaint. At certain times, I have a hard time telling myself the puppet is singing the song. I think she makes herself more of the star than she does Kate. She does facial expressions, but doesn't bother to even make the puppet look in different directions. She's beautiful. She sings beautifully. She just doesn't use the puppet, the CHARACTER to its full potential.
i think julie is amazing! she's defo better than the orgianl! her voice and the emotion she puts into it, just brings the puppet alive! YOU ROCK JULIE!!!
Hi, I hope I'm not too late. The song is about unrequited love, and knowing when enough is enough and when you need to step back and look after yourself. She loves him, but she can't put herself through that. It's a very sad and angry song.
@Brianmaitland you'll find that when you're really connecting emotionally to a song, you go through the emotions of that song without thinking it. I don't think she's doing this purposely, the fact is that to sing a song this emotional well, you have to be emotional. Her puppet skills are excellent, almost unconscious, in the end it just depends on what the audience wants to look at, YOU try drawing focus to a puppet a fifth of your size with you right next to it!
@DiabloSandwich59 Yes, because travel from the Midwest to New York, as we all know, is impossible thanks to that big blank spot on the map in between the two that says "Here There Be Dragons".... so Kate has to be a New York native to live there.
I just noticed that Kate Monster bears a striking resemblance to ET and now I can't unsee it.
Rognik thank you for ruining Kate Monster for me
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh. That’s terrifying but accurate.
It's great the way she always sort of flicks the lips open one more time if the word ends in a consonant like "time" and "friend", very subtle but really brings it to life, also great voice.
yeah.
yeah.
Time doesn't end with a consonant.
@@karmasicy4002 actually, since the final e is silent, in effect the word DOES end with a consonant, but you want to hear the release at the end of the "M" so you understand the whole word.
The best 'fine fine line'
No one can sing this like Julie - this song always has me in tears and helps me realise a few things.
She's so cute! The perfect amount of cartoony.
does anyone else think Julie's joice would be perfect for a Disney fairytale princess or similar character.
Amazigly beautiful voice, her tone gives each note some great personality to the song

She acts out tbe role so well in this song, watch her expressions more than the puppet...wonderfull
Julie is awesome. This is such a touchy song, and Julie really gets the acting done and really convinces us as Kate. She's awesome and no one can deny that!

Julie is my favourite Kate
This is not her natural voice because she is from England, and the voice for Kate works. Julie is SO amazing!!!! :D
The great Julie Atherton.
THIS IS ............. F***ing awsome and amazing i almost cried because of her voice
Saw Avenue Q Thursday, Julie Atherton has got to be the best Kate ever! and possibly one of the most talented peope iv'e ever seen
I see the puppet work as STELLAR in this performance. The mouth movements are spot on, down to the ending of the notes and breaths before bigger vocal pushes. Love it! Great!
Julie Atherton took this role to a whole new level.
i cant believe people have actually disliked this video! I personally love this song and it really touches my heart! And Julie here has really caught the essence of Kate Monster. beautiful!

Having seen Avenue Q countless times, Julie was the definitive Kate Monster and singing this song, she never failed to reduce me to tears :)

She is just so amazing! She totally becomes the character, and yet her voice is STILL AMAZING!
I'm in love with her. Such a beautiful voice.

This is my favorite performance of this song. I always come back to it.
I saw this in London when I was 17 on a wed matinee I went back for the evening performance I loved it so much her voice was incredible
Julie Artherton would be an amazing anything. She is sooo talented and such an amazing performer!
this is a rare rare rare video!!! thank you!!!
I love how during the song she is suppose to be all depressed and sad and at the end she says bye to everyone in such a happy way.
Watched her do this in the west end and it was the moment Avenue Q became genius for me. I'd already laughed so hard I wanted to throw up, but then out came Julie and sang this. i watched this live in LONDON.. it made me cry and ive been singing it ever since.. end of july 2009...
Julie has sucha stunning voice!
And I am in tears again - always a good sign when wanting someone to work on one of my shows !
I saw her when i visited London...AMAZING. I just got out of a 3 year relationship...and this made me cry.
Goodness, since when were theatre voices so completely beautiful?! :') And what a song!

omg yes she is the best kate hands down no arguments forever!!!
Julie is amazing at this song!!! I could really feel the emotion in it! it's simply Wonderful!
Outstandingly beautiful voice! I never heard her sing before now, as all the musical numbers I know are from the American cast.
god saw her in London, loved the musical so much and she was amazing, thanks for uploading this;.....
is it me or does kate monster constantly look sad? or disappointed? lol AVENUE Q ROCKS!

she really belts that last bit in her chest voice doesnt she! amazingg
I Love this! Saw Avenue Q in London earlier this year and it was AWESOME
I have to say, I like Julie more than I like Stephanie. She just embodies Kate Monster for me. :)
thank you for posting a video of her singing this! i love the emotion she puts into this song!
I only have one complaint. At certain times, I have a hard time telling myself the puppet is singing the song. I think she makes herself more of the star than she does Kate. I saw Julie in March in NY, I loove her! Props to Stephanie, and I mean she is the original, but I think I prefer Julie.
Hi, I hope I'm not too late. The song is about unrequited love, and knowing when enough is enough and when you need to step back and look after yourself. She loves him, but she can't put herself through that. It's a very sad and angry song.
I love how she worked with the puppet!!
this is such a beautiful song ♥
I'm a guy and I'm singing this at my theatre group and I've never cried whilst singing a song before like I have this :'(
oh yes! i was trying to figure out who she sounded like/reminded me of - you're right, very much like KC
She is amazing!

that gave me goosebumps :) she's amazing!!
A great memorable song from a very funny and ingenious musical.
@DiabloSandwich59 Yes, because travel from the Midwest to New York, as we all know, is impossible thanks to that big blank spot on the map in between the two that says "Here There Be Dragons".... so Kate has to be a New York native to live there.
i think this is my favorite version on youtube :)
Julie rocks!
This is...... amazing!
I personally like that about it, i think thats what makes avenue q work so well, if they didnt want that, they would just hide the actors.
She is wonderful!!!!
@allyxanna1999 They do, yes. It is the prelude to the song "You Can Be As Loud As The Hell You Want."
I agree. She barely opens the puppet's mouth wide enough in most cases.
Julie is the best Kate/Lucy ever !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is fantastic ^^
So amazing.
@joesingsbadly if you mean the current tour, it was probably Racheal jerram
I like both Stephanie & Julie's Kate but i really love Julie's voice!!!
She's really good :). Wish I could sing like that
@SummerAngelGirl Yep, but he plays a big part later in helping her reach her dream later and he got what he wanted so it's all good.
wow. she rocks!
OH MY GOD!!! You're right!!!
i really like her voice. especialy at the end. is she the original cast memeber or a different one?
She would make a great Glinda 🙌🏻💖
Sing it JULIE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Woo she's good!
she has a pretty voice ^_^
I wished I could have seen it.
