Aaron Blaise said he got paid pretty well at Disney, very few people are anywhere close to as good as him though. Theres only a handful of skilled hand drawn animators left in the world. The problem isn't pay its the training to do this kind of animation doesn't exist anymore.
If you truly love and have a passion for animation you shouldn’t be bitching about what you get paid. Sure people animate for a living and they need money to survive but true animators do it for the art and opportunities. You seem like you need to do some thinking, not everything should be about money :/
@@evanevanf4033 Yeah, but it takes a lot of time, which is why movies like Atlantis had around 200 people (i believe) working on it And besides, if you mean realistic designs, it might take even longer
Let’s be real, we all miss it. As someone who wants to be an animator, I miss it so much - I would LOVE to animate by hand. Unfortunately, with most things, this change is caused by the constant need to save money and create for profit.
Ironic since a handdrawn animated feature will probably be a smash hit at the box office. I lost the count of how many people(myself included) miss the medium.
I most certainly agree. That’s why I’m working on starting my own business with my TH-cam channel to bring back hand-drawn animation. I don’t have anything against CGI but animation shouldn’t be limit to only 3D animation just because of the technology. Let’s bring back hand-drawn animation.
Drawing on paper feels better than drawing with a tablet, but I think it is not about that, it is about work with the same process, so it depends on the software and the animator's knowledge.
I miss it too. But when i try to make it it's like I'm racing against sport car while I'm using a bike. It's a hard and long process which need dedication
As much as I appreciate the newer ways and styles of animating, as someone who grew up around traditional 2D animation, there's something so special about just putting a pencil to a flipbook and seeing some cave drawings come to life.
Honestly, I've always preferred 2D animation over 3D. But from what I know, only a few 2D animators are left, sadly... I really want to become an animator someday. And if I ever created a cartoon, I'd only choose for it to be 2D hand drawn. Same for with most of the stuff I grew up with, it was 2D animation. Which is one of my huge inspirations. I hope that someday animation companies will bring it back. But seeing that most cartoon these days are 3D, I doubt it...
I miss it as well, there is a reason why i prefer things like 20s and 30s style animation over modern computer animation (although i do love modern animation as well)
Agreed, I love animation wether it’s computer animated or hand drawn but if we lose hand drawn animation then we lose the main historic peice of what animation used to be.
As an animator myself, I miss handrawn animation too, but it uses a lot more resources and takes longer to do. If fans want more handrawn animation then they need to do better at supporting these kinds of works and letting the industry know there is still a real market for it, because at the moment it just isn't financially viable.
I too do traditional animation, I don't draw in digital, it has much more, it comes to life. I hope you like my animations to inspire and convey passions. Good art to all.
Here’s the thing. I believe it’s actually coming back. As the big producers fail based on low budget everyone is starting to look at the starter pilots for small companies and creators seeing actual content getting pushed from the heart
That's what I've been doing my whole life. I've hand drawn everything and I've hardly used anything digital. But, with that, I want to continue making things hand drawn on the digital applications, which will allow me to avoid using cgi or Ai in my work. I want to be true to myself.
I do understand why hand drawn animation is being left behind, but the dude is right too, there's some magic to it, you can see the imperfections in such animations and that's kinda the magic i think, for example, with music, nowadays we are all used to perfectly pitched voices and instruments, but back in the 90s and before, people made mistakes singing and it made ot feel natural, i once watched a dude testing to put autotune in freddie's voice on bohemian rhapsody and the feeling of the voice just did not hit as hard as without it. Sometimes perfections loses the good imperfections that can make a characteristic animation, but yea its kind of expensive to cost hand drawn animation having so many good tools nowdays that anyone can use with just a little fraction of what a single hand drawn scene costs, wich can be used to do an entire movie, it's just not convenient to use.
that's why animation is my big dream job and animator is my goal position in industry and now in 7 yrs of experince of being an 2d Assistant Animator , im willing to learn more and more about animation, art style, animation software etc.
I am going to do it. I have to get better at art but I will do it. I am going to fully animate a short by hand and show people the magic of paper hand drawn animation.
Agreed!!! We need to only use cgi for objects. Like cars and buildings. Can't beat that dynamic and imperfect magic of handrawn. It somehow feels more real than the computer generated models
The budget on supplies for hand drawn 2D animation is high, I can't imagine what the cost would be to animate 1 episode of 23 minutes would be nowadays with finite material. It would be a different story if there was an endless supply of paper, but we know thats not possible, so going digital will have to do.
Yeah, but western animation kinda has its charm. I'm european, and not very fond of anime, so... Why do I care about traditional american animation? It's a tad bit complicated.
Now i agree that i wanna see more 2d animation. But im not going back to paper lol. Just get em some graphic tablets. Open up clip paint and make it happen. Its literally the same thing but with slightly more freedom than a pen and paper
Most studios that specialize in 2D animation have artists working on either pen and paper or drawing tablet. You are never forced to work on paper at any of these studios. This isn't the 90s when computers were still too expensive for most studios
I believe by hand method is quite archaic and should only be attempted by studios that are really ready to commit to it. I like how flexible and fast digital 3D and 2D art is with the ability to mimic many other styles. I still think the art of hand made content should live on but that the natural digital evolution of 2D and 3D animation is a necessary step to improve to process.
I hard disagree. There are still lots of hand drawn works out there and it's far from archaic. 2D animation isn't really much harder than 3D and in some ways it's easier. 3D is not an evolution of 2D animation because they are two entirely different fields. Same reason why 3D animation hasn't replaced Stop Motion animation either. Each one has it's own distinct feel and has it's advantages and disadvantages when it comes to production and feel. 3D isn't an evolution of 2D
@@nightisright1873 Still hand drawn. Disney has been using computers since the 80s. Iron Giant was colored digitally just like every other show made today
I miss it so so so much but Disney, Pixar, Sony, all of them only cares about money so we'll never get what we want. They almost never listen to their audience and when they do, they do it wrong.
The unfortunate fact of 2d animation is those silly animators demand silly things like "fair wages" and " to be treated like people", so the valiant corporations gotta stick with 3D because why should the billionaire lose an extra cent to the animator?
Great but at the same time the cost and life wasted on just getting that line perfectly when you can simply used rigs I would love to do hand drawn and even as a child I thought that was the way to go but now honestly no bring it back sure but the cost of it now is too much
