I feel like alot of people not understanding what a producer actually is.. you're job is not to make the most complex melody and intricate drum patterns, you're job is to make something simple and catchy and to leave room for the artist to sing melodies on top. People that diss the two step high hat pattern have probably never sold a beat yet because those ones sell the most

i remember back in my days i used to make beats in A A B A format coming out of jazz bands lmfaaao. i learned from that quick. besides simplicity, a lot of artists may not use your beats because the song form. now that is half their fault for not being very creative but also as producers (not just beatmakers) we need to think about a 2 or 3 song structures that can work for the majority.

I started dropping the beat after 4 bars just to keep peoples attention. Great video bro these tips have helped a lot. and about the key of the song, if you use a key below D chances are when you make you 808 go really low it's not going to sound good. Whenever my beats are in e flat and above, the 808 hits hard af.

With all due respect I think he’s a little harsh with the message of simplicity. like I agree to keep things simple and clean, but if u want a more active, up beat bass or more complex hi hat rolls go for it. every beat has different things that you can put more focus into and for that reason it’s not black and white. I could just be high and looking too much into it but I hella got vibes of discouraging experimentation when that is the most key concept
